I don't care what anyone says. Richard Nixon was a good president. He gets a bad reputation because of Watergate (which is nowhere near as bad as what other presidents and politicians have done throughout history), but if people would ignore Watergate long enough, they would see the good he did as president
But it is actually quite a big scandal that absolutely shouldn’t’ve happened and it was Nixon’s responsibility because it was Nixon’s people. Yes, he was a good president. But how many exactly such presidential scandals happened that would equal wiretapping the opposition? Of course, some did. I would say W. Bush with WMDs would be included there.
The sheer balls it took for Nixon to do this. What a great, but flawed man. I believe Nixon and Stalin are two of the most fascinating leaders in world history. The failed painter as well.
Nixon also lowered the voting age from 21 to 18. At time when one can be drafted but not able to vote. He ended the draft and started to end the war in vietnam that LBJ started. That the media forgets about. Nixion did all this before the 72 election making it law.
The few instances where this is brought up by enemies in their coverage and “histories” they almost always attempt to sneer at it. “It was all for show, remember he was always a crook, etc.” Of course they never have any counter facts to suggested anything he said on the matter was untrue. Just like back then. The truth of the matter is closer to what’s stated in the video. It was risky, bold, unprecedented, and refreshing. Brilliant.
Nixon appeared on a national ballot five times in the second half the 20th century -- '52, '56, '60, '68, '72. Once more than George Bush ('80, '84, '88, '92).
Technically, Richard Nixon was not impeached. Furthermore, he made a pretty remarkable comeback after his resignation. We invite you to study his post-presidential year when you have a chance!
Ted Kennedy in an interview years ago said that Richard Nixon told the Senate democrats (democrats controlled both Houses then) that they should get with their brethren in the House and pass a national health insurance program. Kennedy told the interviewer they should have taken RMN's invitation, but refused because they did not want national insurance to be signed into law by a Republican president. Kennedy was basically saying that is how we fell into the Obamic mess called Obamacare. Fun Fact: This is the same Ted Kennedy who in 1952 handed $1000 cash (possibly Dad's money) to Nixon for his successful US Senate campaign against Helen Douglas.
@JimmieStuartI suggest you do some research before spouting off. Read his memoirs they cover all he was able to accomplish with a hostile Congress that opposed him. And if that is too much go to Congress.gov and read the legislation that was passed during his presidency.
So, the achievements of 50 years ago don't matter? What else do you blithely cast aside from a foolish shortsightedness? Freedom? Emancipation? Liberation of Europe? A free Japan? A free South Korea? NATO?
Thanks to The Nixon Foundation, I am re thinking my opinion of President Nixon.
We underappreciated you, POTUS.
Appreciate all the content you provide.
Thank you!

Totally agree!

100% agree!
I'm learning so much from this channel!
The Gretest Generation - one of hte greatest presidents. As previous commenter stated: We underappreciatd you, POTUS.
That is leadership that is courage
Hoping this is a sign of what the Nixon Documentary will entail. Im looking forward to it.
This is from the documentary “Tricky Dicky” it’s a great 3 part documentary. Just as great as the discovery channel 3 part on Watergate from ‘94.
Oh, how I miss this great man.
California house for $13,000? Those were the days
My Irish American parents were Nixon fans in 52.
They luckily met him for an evening in 60 and stayed supporters till 2008.
I'm curious as to how they felt about Kennedy as his opponent, being Irish Americans and whatnot

Stalin?! Seriously?!
@@ElenaKhit well I suppose they are all fascinating. Just for different reasons and with different results.
@@ElenaKhitDo not mistake Fascination for admiration.
@eamonwright7488 ni l'un ni l'autre. He was cold-blooded cynical tyran and murder
Have you read Stephen Kotkin’s first two volumes of his biography of Stalin? I’m wondering to make the investment.

Despite Watergate, WE NEED NIXON NOW!!!
NIXON'S THE ONE!
I cant believe hes too young when he became VP and survive for another 8 years to become a president
We love Nixon ✌🏼✌🏼😊
Nixon always wins.
With his intellect, he could have easily made a fortune in the private practice of law.

They never questioned the Camelot claptrap.
@@michaelplunkett8059 of course.
Nixon was a genius… way ahead of his time. He also went on ‘Laugh-In’ in 1968!

Someone needs to go back in time and get this man to fall asleep before final debate so he can win 1960 election!
Nice. He should not have done that "I am not a crook speech" at Florida, Disney world. Maybe his home base at California.
1:58 Why all the talk about "The Checkers Speech? Just give us the damned speech!
It's on this channel. It's not that hard to find. If you have difficulty locating it, ask your parents to show you how to find it. ☺️
Why is there a British guy doing the narration? FAIL
😢😢
He didnt do so well in 1974

Because Republicans betrayed him
@@NixonFoundationImpeachment was Bill Clinton privilege.
How can we believe this is actually true ? Is easy when you have a paper and follow the guide. He's probably the nr 1 traitor and actor.
Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Nickelback, Nixon in fact accomplished a lot!
@QuizmasterLaw you got a link ?
@QuizmasterLaw where it is that ?

Do you need him now with Trump?
He wasn't perfect but he would be great standing alongside Trump.
