I've been trying to download for a month now but every time I download the mod it makes a notepad thing instead of the java symbol do you know how to fix this it would help a lot

I had no Java symbol too , I had the same problem very long ago.
You either have to extract it using winrar or make your pc recognize it as a java source. you need to ask someone who knows more about that.
