  • Carolyn speaks of an important case that appears in three koan collections, Gutei’s One Finger. It is the story of a Chinese monk and his attendant, who attained sudden enlightenment after seeing Gutei hold up his finger. This case is a tactile trigger to kensho. “[Yet] you already have everything this one finger can teach you.”

    Sigh... the koan is a teaching fable, not historical reality.
    Lets relax about cruelty to children, the endless PC statements, etc. What's next, trigger warnings before Sleeping Beauty about the nature of consent? Talk about missing the point.
