- Since the baby's arrival, I haven't gotten to spend much time with Xander, so today we had a fun date together and when to hang out with Thomas the Tank Engine in Strasburg, PA! Also, we have some sad news that happened recently, that I wasn't planning to share... but then decided those of you that are faithful followers deserve to know...

Xander is pure joy! You did a very right thing to honor him, with a special time. He will always remember this day. You made a great big deposit into his memory of having a loving and caring mother.
There’s nothing like a boy and his dog . Zander is such a beautiful child inside and out.
I love this. You can spoil him and still teach him the value of a dollar. He knows how far his money will go, but understands you gave him more because that day was special. How can you not buy him all the things on a day like that? He is pure joy and is so grateful. That's how you know you're raising a kid right. You can spoil him occasionally and it doesn't go to his head.
😀 thanks! He did shed some tears for the big sets that cost a lot... but was then happy with his ball.
@@theMennoniteMom we made some serious mistakes in this area with our son. We course corrected but the damage was felt for years. As parents we want to give good things but over indulgence hurts them.

No judgment ever! sponge is precious just like his master. Definitely a difficult situation but you handled it so lovingly. I have said before how much I love your honesty and your desire and ability to share the happy times and the trials. I feel that’s when God is holding our hand. How fortunate are we?

Such a good mommy. What a special day for Xander. I am so sorry about little Bubbles, I cried and know it is sad. In 2020 we lost our little Maltese Dali, she was 16 yrs, and a year later we lost Lulu, she was 17, and still there is empty space with them gone, both little girls. We now have a little boy, Fred (a name my late son used to love and wanted to know why I didn't name him Fred.). Glad to see Xander got another furry friend to grow up with.
No judgement; accidents happen, and it's clear how much you and your family love the dogs and each other.
Also, Xander's joy is palpable. Thank you for sharing your life with us.

I so understand the heartache when a pet dies. We have lost many over the years and it isn’t easy but I would not trade it for never having a pup. My children learned so much by having pets in their lives. God bless you and your adorable family.

My youngest is now 14, but when he was around 2 1/2 he was a major Thomas fan, we took him to Oklahoma City to "A day out with Thomas", like your son he was in absolute heaven... it was a bit expensive but totally worth seeing the excitement on his face. I loved seeing your boys face, he is so cute. And the new puppy is cute too.

So sorry for Xander's loss of his puppy, I had watched the video when you picked her up. Life is hard and we try hard to protect our children but it is something we all face. It is so nice to see a little happy child, you are doing a good job.

What a great day !!! When our dog, Bunny died (cancer) our then 3 year old boy said, "Bunny was such a good dog, God needed her to be with him." Children always amaze me with their logic and innocence. I believe we have to listen to them more, and just maybe the world would be happier and kinder. You have the most adorable little family!

I love how you even recognise your sons need to have quality time with you and acknowledge his emotional needs as well. Nice to just see him enjoying himself and I know they'll be pleasant memories when he's older. They may seem insignificant for so many parents but days and moments like these are so special and valuable to our children. I look forward to having pleasant days like this with my children. I have two girls 11 and 2 they don't live together as my 11 year old is with my mother to attend school so any time we get together is so valuable.

That was so precious to see Xander at the train event. I cried hearing about Bubbles. Years ago, my children had a little rescued Chihuahua, and when I went to work-later than everyone left for school, or my husband left- I'd put my two little dogs in a crate together. But one morning, the two dogs just looked so cute laying in a patch of sun, and I figured no harm would come if I left them out. But the bigger chihuahua was able to knock over a very full garbage can, and she gorged on garbage all day- long story short, 3 days later after a horrible time trying to help her, she died of pancreatitis. I'll never forget having to walk down into the family room and tell my kids that the vet couldn't save her. I felt it was all my fault. If I'd only put them in their crate like I normally did. I still feel traumatized by this, and I've had to work hard to forgive myself. I'm so sorry for the loss, but especially for the traumatic way it all happened, and the pain that can cause. But moving on is good and finding another pet to love. I do love my pets, but I always say, people first, then dogs! I love how Xander just accepted the new puppy and is so resilient. That's a good character trait!
I'm so sorry about Bubbles. I can't imagine your heartache and Zander. 😥 you are such good parents and I love the way you helped bring closure.
They have a Day Out With Thomas in Deluth, Minnesota. My husband and I took the younger kids to it a few weeks ago. We left our oldest two daughters home alone because they are in high school these days. It was a lot of fun for the kids. Glad that you were able to take Xander there.
Being a Brit, my son loved Thomas the tank engine. Had the train sets, dvds etc. we live 15 mins drive from the Bluebell Railway where ‘Stepney’ lived, we have Thomas open days there to meet the trains. My son is now 25, Thomas stored away in the loft!
Zander’s experience of helping raise puppies and passing them on probably helped him get over loosing his own dog easier. He is so precious just taking life as it is!

I think we are all familiar with the death of a pet. Probably the most tragic memory of our childhood. Then our children face it in their time. I'm so sorry for your loss. I hope Sponge lives a long happy life and like a sponge soaks up all the love the children will have for her. Get some rest Mom, you deserve it.
My son was three and watched the original Thomas on pbs. And that started it all. So many Pennsylvania trips but there were no Thomas train around that is over thirty years ago. My son has not stopped he has built so many layouts for train clubs and privately owned and has become a big rail fanner. He loves trains and will never stop. Your children are adorable. Believe me I have spent more then I can count on Thomas and friends but well worth it. Sorry about the dog that is sad.

I know it’s hard to give your attention to a young busy boy n knowing you have new born wanting all your attention.
You gave him a special day just for him n I myself got so much joy watching him enjoying it.
I’m so sorry for the loss of Bubbles n Nolan did the right thing. Accident’s happen unfortunately but Xander being there for the burial n all was definitely a good healing lesson. Sponge is a cutie n so happy to see them bond. I remember when I first started watching your channel you had adult ones n some pups. I fell in love with this breed of a dog. I have a faithful Beagle, she’s almost 12 yrs old. Whenever that time comes ( it’s going break my heart) I would love to find a Corkie a rescue one. I definitely don’t want to support those puppy mills.
Lexie (not sure how your spelling her name) has really grown. It’s been 5 wks. since her birth n she’s look even sweeter n alert with her surroundings. How precious they are when their this small. They grow up so fast don’t they? I’ll close this now so you can get back to your folding of clothes n don’t forget to give Sponge her bath.

Boys and their dogs have a special connection. My son raised a couple of Labs. The last one was special and when she died of old age it was hard on him.

Life happens. And I agree. Pets are not people. But yes, we are to care for all God's creatures. Seeing Xander with Spunge melts my heart too. I've never seen such a happy little boy. Wow! What a day for Zander❤️. Someday Zander will look back on this day and remember how much his mom loved him to take him and his 5 week old sister to ride on Thomas the Train and then to get a brand new puppy! So sad to hear about Bubbles, I can only imagine how devastated Zander was. There is nothing like a little boy and his dog and it looks like your new little puppy and Zander will be great friends for sure. Old emotional grandpa, I cried all the time you guys were on the train. ( Missing my 3y/o grandson.) Xander " Mom's gonna spoil me." That's whay Mommas and Daddy's do. I can tell he'll never forget this. What a great day.

Understand completely. Have lost a dog to an accident. It is so hard. Some people look for a reason to judge and we have to see their brokenness and let it go. Huge hugs. Poor Nolan. Looked like a great day with Thomas!!! So presh to see the new pup with Xander! Another love bug for him!

Awww, we can totally relate to the puppy accident and breaking it to the children and the grief everyone felt.💔we had a kitty accident with our vehicle last yr. 😢 we finally got another kitty this yr, a full sister to our other.❤ so happy Xander has another puppy to fill his arms.❤

I am so, so sorry about little bubbles. My heart goes out to you all. I can't imagine how hard that was for Nolan and Xander. We've had many animals throughout the years and I know it's hard no matter what the reason when they die. The new puppy is just adorable and it sure looks like the Lord is using her to heal the pain.

As an old woman, I realize that God uses devastating event’s like Bubbles death to give us an opportunity to teach our children about the frailty of life and death. We probably will not be with our children when they have to deal with our death and passing, but they will remember what we have taught them about grieving. Thank you for letting me come with you today. I, personally, love "Thomas the Train". My grgrson Logan loved him so much when he was Zander's age. He had Cancer at the time and spent hours and hours watching TT's movies. It comforted and helped him to forget what he was going thru at the time. So it was a special moment today going with you on your little adventure. It is so nice to find things that are "clean" and "good." I am so sorry about what happened with Bubbles. That kind of thing always leaves an impression on your heart. Especially little ones. I appreciate that you shared this with me/us. Lexy is so beautiful and growing so fast. This stage is so special and so short. It is hard to think how quickly it will be over and she'll be crawling and getting into things. Know that you are a great Mom to both of your little ones. @@theMennoniteMom I am a dog lover and we adopted a very old, Old English Sheep dog , not long after getting him he passed away ( he was very old ) the association told me to get another one immediately, I was stunned and said no way I need to mourn this dog but they advised me that as I was now second time rescue I was eligible for a puppy and they had one .. she said it’s the best way you can’t bring the other dog back and mourning wouldn’t help the dog or us .. we took her advice and brought home our second old English sheep dog rescue … she was right , our focus became the new puppy…! it didn’t change the loss of the other dog but it helped us going forward. We have done it ever since … waiting months and crying 😭 doesn’t help you or the dog you lost … so I am glad you went ahead and got Zander another puppy …. He is the sweetest child and will give his puppy the best life xx

Not even going to lie, I would ride that train, with or without my children or my grandchildren! We started watching when Thomas and Shining Time Station was on PBS! We loved it so much! Our oldest son has 5 children and they have all grown up watching our old VHS movies and playing with his Shining time Station. It is so much fun and a great time of make believe. I am glad that you and Xander had such a good experience riding and visiting Thomas.

Oh my goodness! I just loved this video. Took me right back to when my two boys were babies (32 and 35 now). My youngest was a complete Thomas the Tank Engine nut! In fact he loved all trains when he was little. Watching you with your precious boy brought me so much joy and also brought such wonderful memories back to mind. These times when your sweet babies are young will fly by. Before you know it, your beautiful babies will be grown. Enjoy this time while your can. You are a wonderful mom. I had run over a kitten, a litter mate & twin to his brother. Sigh! Such a heartbreak!
Went out & found 2 more kittens, brothers & litter mates as advertised in the local paper.
Buried him in dark purple pinwale corduroy fabric, wrote his name on a stone. This was in 1972, & my first born daughter was only 8 weeks old. I fully understand the sobs, with hormones jumping down, up & sideways...
I agree with your parenting style & with helping Zander with his grief. Looked like it was a healthy way for him to realize death & what customs many of us follow & practice, to ease our healing. Many thanks for sharing your real life. You both have done well with parenting & giving each other support.

Reminds me of going to KY & Mammoth Cave when my son was 5 weeks old... & yes, I climbed down in the cave tour.
On the way back up, I was wishing I had not gone as much uterus was cramping so much... aarrrggghhh...
