- Okay, this is so different from anything I have ever played but I ended up loving it and went to reddit immediately to see the ideas and thoughts behind the story. I loved the loop of different story lines and never knew what to expect with this game. I hope yall enjoy seeing something a little different! If you have any other games that are like this, let me know!

"Why wouldn't I be kind to you? You are the only thing I know that isn't me." Is such a beautiful and simple sentiment.
It is, and it breaks my heart how romantic and foreign an ideal it is to the paranoid nature of humanity. It leaves me longing.
Imagine treating what you don’t know which kindness instead of distrust, what a wonderful world that would be
“I don’t like how she’s treated us the whole time” you say having decided to kill her most runs
Telltale Batman has taught us Kasta isn't the best at accepting responsibility for her actions in a choose-your-own adventure. If she gets betrayed, she insists the game was going to do that to her anyway, regardless of her actions.
Suddenly I feel like these play throughs are somewhat a tell about the entertainer's overall personality.
The amounts I seen are completely making me sad about how much people are unempathetic.
They still were going away with the overall princess as mortals or deities. But they were still heart wretching to watch (I did watch them all through)
@@wewden6887 I mean... Personally I haven't seen a SINGLE person directly attack the witch like that. Even after my 100% achievements I didn't even see this dialogue.
@@wewden6887don’t forget that the game’s called “slay the princess” their just doing what their told to do, and anyways, the princess will “end” the world if you let her free
@@noodle67 this person was constantly like "You are just saying what would make me feel the worst".
She took zero responsibility for her actions. Kinda reminds me of my sister, who rather than learning from her mistakes programs herself to forget her mistakes. On an insane level.
Markiplier was clear about him killing the princess first being a bit. Then he did take the game seriously and understood, that the princess reacts to him.
As I heard she is also like this in other playthrouhs. That's not something I'm here to watch.
getting moment of clarity in your very first run is WILD
The company that makes this game is a very small group of people. All images are hand-drawn by one person and edited by a few. It’s pretty awesome!
there certainly is enough content for another 2 full playthroughs without repeating a single ending
But you have to hear "You're on a path in the woods" 50000 times 💀💀💀
not true
@@nichitacruceanu9540 how? It only takes 5 sub endings to finish a playthrough and there are so many more sub endings
@@SwagSwagSenate there are 11 chapter 2 options and 10 voices, and in chapter 3 two voices are joined so 5 chapter 3s. one more playthrough is enough.
@@nichitacruceanu9540 but there are 2 different versions of each chapter 3, some chapter 4s, some can end on 2, etc. there’s way more than just that
I would DEFINITELY like to see you play more of this game. As a fan since the demo, it’s SO full of different routes, choices, so much to do.
There’s 11 different chapter 2s you can get I’m pretty sure. The Witch is my personal favorite princess!!
The Thorn, for me. I'm so very weak for her reluctant trust.
@@sanmeiwolf you get it 💪
@@flowerene2630 lol, you two are cute. Definitely understand those choices though 🙂
5:05:55
Very pleased to see you reach this conclusion. You yourself many times mentioned seeing "the real her" or "her true self" as the violent sides, but the loving sides are real as well, and all the other sides you didn't see. They are all her, just as we all are.
It's so much better if you just keep avoiding the cabin for the first go. It probably represents what you were saying but on a more literal level. It's wild but also cathartic in a way. I won't go any further because spoilers, but it is worth it.
the fact its all fives on that timestamp (except 0) is crazy
@@oricipriani1609 lol, Life is a Pattern.
@@reubensalter8125 yes, I know what conclusion you mean, but this was satisfactory enough for getting the point across to Kasta. Ultimately, I think you're right in that this game is a treasure that should be consumed completely through multiple playthroughs to gain the full breadth of the creators' visions, but I'm not even sure if I've seen all of the endings since Kasta had one path that I think was new to me. Ultimately, we don't get to see everything through God's eyes, but we get to see enough through our own. and that's more than enough beauty to behold.
5:15:30
The Shifting Mound represented change, action, transformation. The Long Quiet represented stagnation, inaction, and permanence. The narrator, the echo of the human that created the conceptual construct of the story to trap them, wanted Stagnation to kill Change because he was afraid of death and loss, and wanted to remove those changes from the universe. Everything you have and are would exist forever, including being alive.
I know you had difficulty understanding the nature of the entities and their relationship, but even without that understanding I feel you still expressed the same perspective you would have had you fully grasped it.
You disagree with such permanence, and in the end, you made the right choice for yourself: taking hold of a welcoming hand meant just for you as you walked into an unknown future together.
not exactly, the narrator wanted to stop death, because the heat death of the universe was near, if you check the other endings you get more info about it.
he wanted to stop the heat death of the universe but in the end he wouldn't be able to witness it with his own eyes.
@@giwrgosdavola74 we're saying the same thing with different words I believe. He didn't care about stars existing specifically. He cared about worlds dying. People. Life ending. He was trying to stop Endings, not simply the heat death of the universe, which is meaningless to extinct life. You get what I'm saying? I understand how you might come to that conclusion though, taking the Lonely ending at its pure literal word, I suppose. But do you understand what I'm saying? How just "heat death of the universe" doesn't threaten life, and stopping it doesn't reward the person that sacrificed his life?
I am loving this game so much. The audio design is so well done -- the voice actors, the sounds effects, the MUSIC! Thanks for showing me this one, Kasta.
I like the way this ended. I had my doubts about the narrator. As you played, it shown that she wasn't pure evil. At the end, she felt remorse for what she had done, and so did the hero for what he had done. With your choice to appeal to her humanity without the narrator's interference on both of you, it gave them both a chance to create their own path with no predetermined ideas of what the future may be.
I just like you never felt right about just slaying the princess. If there was ever a chance of saving her with a possibility of a good future, then I'd have to try.
She isn't pure evil, but she contains it in her multitudes. Death, that is, not evil. But she also contains change and transformation itself.
Spoilers now:
By killing her, you'd be freeing the world of death, as the narrator intended, but also dooming it to eternal stagnation. By joining her in godhood you'd be helping her to continue the natural cycle of things.
Also the leave option is much better if you keep avoiding the cabin on the first go. It's rewarding
Yeah, I think none of these characters are "Evil". All were just trying to understand, and maybe matter, in their existence. The narrator never lied to you like some voices (in game and in our heads) insisted. He simplified the truth, avoided information, but he was always sincere in his goal. I'm not even sure how many facets of the princess were actually "deceitful". And whether the Hero lies is up to the player, so...yeah, everyone was trustworthy in this love story. Each of them was sincere, dangerous, and incomplete. We each are the ones that should be questioned on our motives.
If you ask me, walking outside means the two gods escape back into the universe.
Two gods in human (well, the player is a bird) form just wandering the stars together.
Or it just means they walk into their own pocket universe located within Shifty herself. There is an ending where they actually escape though
@@reubensalter8125 The outside is the Long Quiet, but I agree that they may or may not escape the construct when they go outside when taken literally. We do see it happen for sure in a couple endings. For myself, I think the romantic implication of them leaving the cabin together is that they are indeed freed to return to their natural state as a unified god, but it's ambiguous enough for us each to conclude what we prefer for them. 🙂
@@ShadowPhoenix82 I like to imagine that the power that formed the 2 separate consciousness (The princess you speak to at the end and you) Those consciousness leave and enter the world and the godly power they left behind (Aka the shifting mound and the other voices) probably reforms into the gods without you.
Congrats on getting (imo) the best ending! I'm glad you decided to try out this game, great analysis and understanding of the themes and writing thoughout.
Nah best ending is the name of the game. Actually slaying the Princess.
Im sure someone else has mentioned this, but there is a path there to gain back the 'witches' trust. Was hoping you'd see it but I recommend checking it out, its very sweet. Glad you liked the game, i finished it months ago and I still love to think about all the symbolism and philosophy in it!
Good job posting the whole game before Markiplier.
That's really funny timing actually lol
LOL By the way Markiplier just play the game LOL
@@Kenneth-dh5fq yes we know. Kasta uploaded this playthrough exactly 3 hours before Mark uploaded his part 1, this comment was made right after Mark uploaded part 1
@@SwagSwagSenate yeah I know and I just wanted to point that out you know that he did play the game the first comment was 2 weeks ago I know

There are a lot more routes. But, coming soon, is the free update, The Pristine Cut, that expands three Chapter IIIs, and adds three new Chapter IIIs. As for this game, I love that it threw me off-balance right from the beginning. I quickly didn't trust either them, which left me wondering just what was the right thing to do.
I do think that's the perfect position for a player to find themselves in. 🙂
This game is so beautiful and I love seeing more people experiencing it.
Oh my goodness, I didn’t think you’d play this game but I’m sooo happy that you are!! It’s amazing! I am excited to see this playthrough!
I know what's happening, and it's still exceedingly beautiful, so I do understand what beauty you find in the unknown, the cusp of light licking at the edge of shadow, the moment before the dawn of clarity.
That is good.
I was hoping you'd explore some options more, especially during the ending, but I still really appreciate your playthrough. Your ending showed some elements I hadn't seen from any other playthrough I watched 🙏🏾💕
The Unknown together is my favorite ending!!
It's even better with the Stranger. 😊
Intense sadness when she didn't give the Witch the blade.
Oh uh... "The good ending" Is sarcastic btw... It only lets you get it if that's your very first run. You never meet the entity at the end and you just get "The good ending" Hence why it's drawn in crayon with a generic "Yayyyyy". If you try to get it after meeting the entity she doesn't let you fade into blissful "happiness".
amazing playthrough! it was very fun following you through this game. loved your thought process. thanks for posting!
You have a very eloquent voice. Your playthrough was very fun to watch as well, thanks for sharing it.
Oh man, my mother and I can listen to her all day. She sounds SO romantic and jubilant! 😀
Her voice makes me mad
the game is so good, so glad you played it!! totally about to watch this whole video today lol ❤
0:24 One does not simply overthink Slay the Princess
Ugh, my only gripe throughout the whole five hours was not addressing the vessel's statements directly! That was like the most interesting part of the ending to me, but to each their own haha.
I love this game sm, I'm so glad you played it
Very enjoyable playthrough! I've been watching LPs of Slay the Princess and it's always a nice surprise to see a few choices I hadn't seen before. I also like that you were thoughtful about the game without getting completely stuck on making a choice.
Mannnn I am happy you played this game. This game is amazing!
Another cozy Friday game (with a not so cozy game) to watch! Only a few minutes in and this game is immediately reminding me of The Stanley Parable, another great game
Hope you’re enjoying yourself, Kasta!
If you like games where there is a sassy narrator i would recommend the stanley parable
yesss
You got some amazing princesses for your first playthrough.
You were so close to a true answer as well
Not the love letter between life and death. But the love letter between change and constant.
If you liked playing Slay the Princess, I'd recommend Stanley! The games are similar in a way. In both, there's a narrator and multiple choices/endings you can make. Awesome video, keep it up! :) ❤
Oh, this is exciting! I love this game and I can't wait to see how Kasta responds to it! I'm also glad they posted that warning at the beginning, since Kasta is prone to thinking she made bad choices as opposed to just HER choices. This game will definitely teach her out of that and recognize that there is no right or wrong. Just what you want, and what you get in return.
Hey Kasta, "The Wolf Among Us" is a phenomenal choices matter fairy tale meets real world game. It has a sequel coming soon, and I think you'd love the story and art style. Thanks for your wonderful playthroughs and over-thinking!
This game looks good and I love the black and white. Just wishlisted and will try the demo. Nice one, Maggie! ♥
Thank you for this, I enjoyed it so much... If you ever want to do another playthrough, I would be very ok with that 💜
My route was: (Spoiler)
Stranger > Damsel > Prisoner > Witch/Thorn > Tower.
Ending: Apotheosis Together
I took every opportunity to free her or at least not kill. First by saying nope to the whole aitch and leaving. Then by going straight to freeing her. Then taking the knife to free her and inspecting the chains, then i was forced to slay her but gave her the knife in trust. Then was forced to try and fail to slay her and immidiately gave up.
Hi! I found this channel because I love Slay the Princess. In part because it is an experience and watching others play it is really interesting. I absolutely love The Shifting Mound and agree with her perspective.
Like you said the game is somewhat of a love letter between life and death. Although they do contain life and death in their multitudes they are not life and death. They are existence and transformation.
A truly deathless world devoid of any meaningful change would be hell. It's not too far removed from Dark Souls. Except worse. The narrator's universe is dying and he wants to stop that. I can empathize however such stagnation means that the universe will not be reborn. Trillions would be denied life so that less can stagnate in a half life.
I hope you choose to play again. Even if you dont record it. Its just that good. Especially on a second playthrough. You also missed the best romance routes. There are still so many choices and stories you can make.
At some point I know they are going to release a dlc. I watched a stream of the game with the devs that had the voice actors live. It was amazing. You get to learn quite a bit about them. Nicole Goodnight has a very meaningful story about her relation to voice acting. She's an absolutely lovely person. I've seen streams where she has popped in to say hello and give the streamer support.
If you ever do replay consider playing it as a love letter from life to death. Consider what textures you want to carve into her heart.
hey! first time here, I've already done this game and it was very pleasant seeing someone else do it. thanks for your video
36:35
This is EXACTLY the reaction I was hoping for! 😆
I think in this playthrough what's out there is a world. One they may have created out of their godly leftovers. A world like what narrator described with a perfect balance of life and death. One they may be able to effect slightly but can't control. The probably had to learn to be mortals. I hope once they got the hang of life they lived happily ever after.
Your long videos are astounding Maggie! Keep it up!
I have never heard of this game but any game that you play
I'll be watching and I like the title Slay the Princess it sounds
really great, have a beautiful weekend Kasta and Miss Ginger.
🐾🐈🐾
I'm so happy you ended up in The Wild route. It's one of my favourites and I was quite excited to see your reaction!
“Kasta on the bottom left of the screen isn’t real. She can’t hurt you.”
(i wrote some explainations down belowe)
If you get the good ending as your first, then the game just ends, credits roll.
Aslo damn, you missed such a good scene with the specter by trying to slay.
And with the witch😼, you can have my favorite route🌹 if you take the blade down, and then give her. Also cal her pretty.
3:44:40 somewhat. The entire game is based on taoism, where every interpretation is correct. And the game can be analised on the layer of two lovers trying to understand each other. The witch is about betrayal, damsel about blind love, specter about loneliness and either forgiveness you you hep her or resentment if you try to slay her.
If the narrator just told you she becomes anything you believe her to be. then a thought "i wonder if she is the end of the world right NOW" and then the world would end right now.
He was very careful about the things he says to you to prevent you from manifesting her into something you cant beat.
There is actually a path where you think "the princess cant die" and then youre stuck in a battle forever until the hand take her.
And she litteraly is transformation and change. Like if *reality* was a cake, and th echo cut it in half, and one half was change. Thats her, and you are the other half of the cake of reality.
Thats also why it seems youre both ancient in your togetherness and newborn deities.
Before the echo cut reality in half, you were both together, as reality. The momment he cut reality in half he created two sentient deities, thats the momments you both gain a mind. You both carry a memmory of togetherness of before you were both cut apart and why you have a force pulling you together.
Like two halves of a cake remembring youre supposed to be one.
At the end youre two gods arguing about existance. She wants unchangingness of change, as in change, always and forever. And her belief in change is the only thing that doesnt change about her. Basically if you let her win it goes back to the way it was before you were split into two, but with both of you existing side by side and concious. So a world is born, a world dies. Over and over the universe collapses and a new one is born. She argues that this is the only way to have meaning. the echo believed in stopping that cycle and preserving the current universe.
4:54:40 talking to woman be like
I truly enjoyed watching your videos they're absolutely amazing 😊🎉 You're awesome Kastaclysm 💖💯✨
Well now I HAVE to recommend the choice-based adventure "As Dusk Falls"
Haha, I've seen it mentioned before! Thanks for the suggestion 😁
Now I'm wondering if you'd like Doki Doki Literature club. That game stays with you for a bit.
Kasta been killing it with the uploads lately wow
2:37:37 you can only get to the credits if you do it without doing anything else best way to get the ending ending start new game then do the exact same just kill her then you will just need to stay in the cabin then the credits will roll hope you see it this message anyways
Brain chemistry shifted
As I understand it the backstory is as follows: A super-scientist in a dying universe divided Death into Change (the Princess) and Stillness (the PlayerCharacter), then shunted them off in a pocket multiverse and created a Narrator for each universe within to direct the PC to neutralize the Princess.
A major plothole with this concept is that the PC as well as all his voices except maybe for Cold are way too human and do not fit a personified Stillness in any way. It would be either catatonic itself or mindlessly trying to stop everything that is not still.
Another plothole is that while Change is removed from the Narrators' original universe, so is Stillness. Sooo... that should result in Existence ceasing, since things can neither stay nor change.
Another amazing video Kastaclysm ❤❤😁😁.
You should try other routes there's a lot you can see.
I really enjoy your videos I was watching your spider man playthrough and a few other playthroughs of yours and they are really awesome 😎🤘 keep up the amazing work 👍 and hope you have a blessed and wonderful day ☺️🙏❤️
You should take a look into Stray Gods ❤another instant classic with Troy Baker and Laura Bailey (among others)
Yes!!! I strongly second this motion
😮
Kinda sad you never got The Thorn route, one of my favourites if you do the right options!
true, but at least she got the witch fight, one of my favorite scenes, followed by one of my favorite chapters
Got a major kick out of this game for like an afternoon. Also the good ending only counts and ends the game if it is your first choice and you never meet the entity.
markiplier literally just uploaded part one for this and i just found out you did too
She uploaded hers 3 hours before mark which is funny
Dude , you won't survive the info hazard. 😅
Lol so many people with terminal indecisiveness getting that ending first XD I feel like the devs made it so bad to punish those who couldn't simply commit to a path.
I think seeing their other game (Scarlet Hollow) would be fun! =]
Thank you for the suggestion! I'll make a note to maybe take a look at it
If you wanna play another one episode game I'd recommend Unheard. It's mysterious because you're solving cases but there's not a lot of visuals, you're mostly going on audio clues. And seeing the ways different people have approached the game is interesting.
I'll see about maybe adding Unheard to my list!
I can hear you talk all day ❤
A very intriguing game. There is a game you might like called The Room. There's been several sequels. Not a narrator game but a great puzzle game that I think you might find exciting.
I'll see about adding it to my list to maybe check out eventually!!
My burger is on it's way. I was just waiting for today's game. 🥰🥰
Ah good, you moved the cam later, thank you! On to "The Manipulation Game"! That one will be so difficult for you. Lets see which princess slays which. :D
Btw, the preferences are the standard for Virtual Novels. It comes from the tool they all use to make them, Ren'Py. I would suggest Doki Doki Literature Club (Plus) if you never played that. Another short one I recently played is The Thief, the Witch, the Toad and the Mushroom. Should be right up your alley and its free!
Edit after the end:
So, there are multiple endings, which I am sure you looked up by now. Imho you got the best and only "real" ending or at least the ending that fits you the most, as far as I can tell. There are lots of ways to interpret them all, but for me this ending says what I personally believe. If you find that person that makes you whole, you can step outside into the world, not knowing what will be, but you will be fine. You will face everything together, hand in hand.
Btw, you mentioned playing this a long time ago, how many games do you have prerecorded??
I will mention Signalis and SOMA once more, other games that wont leave you for a while after playing them.
Edit 2:
I just remembered something. The track list at the end, these are the chapters you got to see. There are 54 songs in total, not sure if every one of them is a chapter, but you can guess there are a lot of different paths you didnt see.
How many games do I have prerecorded? A loooooooot 😆
@@Kastaclysm I should probably stop suggesting other games then, you might have them all recorded already. :D
Hope Twitchcon and Europe are/were treating you well!
You know what ending you wanted to end on? Could you try getting that one again?
🔥
Another great video Maggie and you’re really churning them out lately😎. This game is different to anything I’ve ever seen before, but in a good way because it seems to me every choice you can ever make are largely the same, even if they’re quite different, the ending(s) may well converge in roughly the same the manner as yours did....although I could be wrong😂. The humour, the writing and story of this game is top notch and I can’t believe Gab Smoulders is involved in this game, been following her for a while too👍. Have a great trip in the UK and take care.
No, this isn't like other choice based games. There are actually very differing paths. There are 30 sub endings and 8 main endings. And the devs are adding in 12 new sub endings. There is 12 hours worth of unique content, with more on the way
New viewer here. I'm glad that you didn't slay her. I wanted a different approach to this, after watching Markiplier play. Obviously he slayed the princess first
Oh, and new subscriber here. I'm trying to find more females to watch
That and he didn't really go for the explore options. He did end up getting the Spectre though which I've never seen people do on their first run so that was cool.
noooooo she missed the thorns route, I'm incredibly saddened
Tbf it's quite a hard route to find. I rather see it as an easter egg route due to how specific it is to get there
Ehh I like the Wild better

And that's why he's here now 😉
reminds me of Stanley Parable to some extent
You may also enjoy I was a Teenage Exocolonist. I'm not sure if you've played it or heard of it already. You create a child which grows on an alien planet.
Oooh, I don't think I've heard of it! I'll see about adding it to my list
I am a little disappointed she did not choose one simple last option to lead her to the Stranger vessel
Have you played Omori? You should play it, if you haven't

5:16:00 that is not universal. Reality isn't fair and balanced.
Hold on...your name is MAGGIE ?????
Cam covering the text in the top right so we can't see what choices you're making in the beginning, unless you said it out loud, was a bit frustrating NGL. But great playthrough otherwise, love Maggie's enthusiasm as always.

Yeah, it is weird how most of you humans forget family, friends, co-workers, rivals, roommates, and compatriots are all relationships. Not everything hinges on sex.
Nice to see more playthroughs but that first run was maddening. Hearing you repeatedly say "inaction is an action itself" followed by not being able to make a decision about freeing her or slaying her was very frustrating
You should play omori :)
Maggie is still so pretty!! 🥰
You seem close to your own awakening. When faced with the truth, I hope the right choice is made.
is she genz or millienial?
you're so gorgeous
Gosh... This playthrough was interesting because it's not like others. Unfortunately, that is in the sense that you did not manage to grasp the game's idea, its themes, and what the Long Quiet, the Princess, and the Natrator represent. You literally skipped most of the dialogue in the beginning despite it always having different voices and the Narrator pondering on just what is going on. And the mirror! You almost never checked it! This... was not much fun to watch, though it was refreshing
Her getting stuck in the idea that the true form of the princess was evil, even after seeing The Damsel, was also very frustrating.
@@SenfreeBut if that's what she wants to think, we should let her. There are no wrong perspectives after all, and there's a lot of evidence that supports her theory:
The shifting mound containing death within het multitudes.
The mound's apparent apathy towards the inhabitants of the world.
Various vessels exhibiting demonic traits (Adversary, Needle, Fury) or typically evil or sadistic traits (Tower, Nightmare, Wraith) or even godlike traits (Tower again, Apotheosis).
Note that I don't think that about most of the princesses listed but others might that I can see that. Also I'm not saying I agree with her conclusion, I'm just trying to justify or figure out how she could've gotten to it.
@@reubensalter8125 I can see how she got there, but this game is so much more than "princess evil" and leaving it at that feels reductive to everything the game has to offer.
Especially since the game paints things in more than black and white.
Sure she feels that way, and I'm not going to stop her, but it will always sadden me.
@@Senfree I mean, we can agree that's it's a far cry from what a certain theorist did; at least she actually played the game. 😅
@@reubensalter8125 True. At least she has an opinion on what was given instead of some contrived belief of what's going on from not actually interacting with, or retrieving information from the game.
I think I'm understanding why I watch so many walkthroughs, even though I'm annoyed with each first 2 hour gameplay.
It annoys me because I'm like the princess. I react to the person I'm with. Nobody really wants to understand her and they constantly forget very important detail.
So far I didn't see anyone who (!spoiler alert!) killed her final form.
Yet everyone treats her like a monster, when you go in like a menacing killer, while you are the first person she ever meets.
It's so infuriating. I love the game and I thought it was that I just like the princess.
But no it's a bit more of a personal feeling. It's easier to watch these annoyances now.
Anyways, I comment, because I want to support the youtuber. Otherwise I would just stew silently and leave a dislike.
This is just such an annoying journey.
I have a spreadsheet of different playthroughs, I've only seen one person be relatively nice to the princess, even when they chose the Slay route, they didn't come across me as harsh.
This streamer (the one this comment is under) came across me as particularly harsh.
Keep up the great and funny videos!
