    My results so far:
    - City traffic 5.1
    - Normal roads 5.1 (80-110 kmh)
    - Highways 6.5 (140-160 kmh).
    My driving score varies around 70 (much more driving on gas, revs around 1.5k most of the time).

    OK. Here's a shocker. I made a trip in my 2018 Camry Hybrid from Waterloo Ontario to my hometown of Welland Ontario taking the back roads and treating my hybrid like a video game called "Let's see how good we get today!!" The trip took an hour and fifty-nine minutes and the fuel economy was 3.6!!!!! Remember, this is in a CAMRY, not a Corolla OR a Prius!! And this was in April 2020. I've got a photo on the camera ... just not real sure how to attach it here.

    • @geremytassone
      @geremytassone 2 года назад +4

      @@luckystrike656 very good question. The hybrid is most economical at low speeds. In heavier & stop start traffic the engine stops instead of idling. I’m finding long haul driving of speeds 100-110kmh the fuel economy is around 4.2L per hundred. Speed limit in Australia on some freeways is 110. At 140kmh anywhere else, the hybrid would rarely kick in if at all.

    I ordered 1.8 engine. If people are looking for economy, they need to learn to drive the hybrid. With simple pulse and glide and 80-90 speed I got from 12 l to 10 l per 100 on 96 Audi. So it should be possible to get to 3.5 l with this car if you drive well in good conditions. And if you remove weight, air-con and increase tire pressure may be 3 l.

    • @1001cars
      @1001cars  5 лет назад

      Tak, silnik schłodził się już zbyt mocno (wystartowałem praktycznie z zimnym) i akumulatory już się mocno rozładowały. Dłuższa jazda w trybie EV nie była więc możliwa, a że dystans przejechany do tej pory wynosił zaledwie ~1,8 km, to średnia wartość pokazywana przez komputer szybko rosła. Don't understand how this car can perform better than an Octavia phev at high speed (90 or 120kmh) ..a phev should behave like a "traditional" hybrid in this context. What am I missing?

      @1001cars  3 года назад

      When we compare Toyota hybrid car with PHEV's car with discharged battery (so like typical hybrid system) at speed like 90/120/140 km/h the reason why one car is better than the second one is efficiency of both engines and aerodynamics. Why, in your opinion, PHEV should be better?

    • @StefanoDalPont
      @StefanoDalPont 3 года назад

      Thanks for your reply. It's true, comparing Toyota and Skoda is like comparing apples and oranges. However, in one of your (really nice!) videos, you compare Octavia phev, Octavia Tsi and golf eTSI. The phev performs always worse once the battery is discharged. I expected a similar consumption compared to the eTSI -but the difference is significative - my understanding is that a Phev performs like an hybrid once discharged. At constant speed the extra weight shouldn't play much and the aerodynamics is pretty much the same... Maybe the new 1.5 VW petrol engine is that much more efficient compared to the old1.4?

    • @1001cars
      @1001cars  3 года назад

      @@StefanoDalPont PHEV with discharged battery performs like typical hybrid - yes, that is right, but it does not mean that VW's hybrid has the sam efficiency like Toyota's hybrid :) As you could see, the toyota's system is more efficient in such scenario.
      at high speed the weight of the car is not as important at for example in a city, but still it is. Tyre friction is higher if the weight of the car is higher. Of course at 140 km/h tyre friction is a smaller "problem" comparing to aerodynamics comparing to e.g 90 km/h, but still it is.
      1.4 TSI prepared for hybrid is really good and changing it to 1.5 TSI will not change too much

    • @StefanoDalPont
      @StefanoDalPont 3 года назад

      Electric motor is meaningless after ~80 km/h, but since the engine itself uses an Atkinson cycle (in two words - more efficient at lower RMP) it is quite economical too. So there is a great chance 2.0l Hybrid will be quite good in your situation.

    The only way to get accurate fuel economy is by click to click fuel readings. Start with full tank then fill to first click when finished. Onboard computer readings are misleading especially in city traffic. On the open road at a steady cruise they improve accuracy but still do not match actual fuel use. In the years I’ve been logging my fuel consumption I’ve never matched computer with actual, I’ve been close but around town it can be 5mpg over actual.

    • @1001cars

      And this is why I checked REAL fuel consumption on petrol station and: "I checked real consumption on petrol station and I filled up 3% more than computer showed. It is typical difference in modern cars." (text from the description). So it is very small, nothing what should be important.
      But: explain please why difference will be higher in a city comparing to open road.
      Next thing: "click to click" is not accurate method because of the pressure inside the tank.
