  • In Week 2 of our Forgiving What You Can’t Forget Online Bible Study, Melissa Taylor sat down with author Lysa TerKeurst. Lysa shares about her experiences in counseling and how to apply what she's learned to our own circumstances. All the while, she'll help us recognize how the battle of forgiveness has already been accomplished from what Jesus did on the cross.

Love the reminder to give yourself 20 min, 40z of water, and loads of grace & Truth!! The Book "The Body Keep Score" does an amazing job educating us on how the brain works and functions during trauma and suffering.

I did the exercise with my counselor last week. I can not believe how much this helped me. "The pain wasn't staring me back" either. I had a trigger yesterday but was able to work through it so much better. I started volunteering for a trauma processing group 6 months ago. I serve as an ally. Not only has God taken my pain and used it to help others, but it has also been healing to me.

I was really touched within the first 5 minutes that you validated me and that this did happen and for this you were so sorry. Sometimes I feel the blame keeps coming back on me.... if only I had done this or had not done that. It feels like being victimized all over again. Thank you for saying this was wrong. What they did was not ok.

Go ahead and allow yourself to solve the issue after the fact. It keeps you humble because you realize the devil won. You failed a test. No big deal. Athletes review games to see what they did wrong and how they can get better.

Chapter 4 was such a huge help. I didn’t have red felt so I used a red crayon and colored over every hurt. Thank you Lysa for writing this book and helping me, all of us to get to a place where Jesus wants us to forgive! ♥️

This video is THE BEST teaching and insight I have ever heard on forgiveness. I have a master's degree in Ministry and have read and listened to many teachings. This video was theological and practical. We need both. Lysa's description of her counseling session and her understanding of how it feels to be triggered and hurt so deeply was so powerful to me. Thank you both for making this video.

This is so good! That's the hardest thing about forgiveness (for me at least)... how to KEEP forgiving and make sure it sticks even when you're tempted to go back to your original hurt when you're reminded of the pain. Jesus's command to forgive seven times seventy times... I feel that's him telling us that he KNOWS that the pain will not go away magically and we need to keep forgiving and growing.

So perfectly said..14 yrs & I've let go of alot. But, occasions still come up where there are triggers that send me realing back & cause me to wonder if I will EVER get past this & completely forgive. This book has made me realize I've come along way. It IS a process & to trust God to finalize it & not my own strength. (20 min..I've actually become aware of the power in doing this. I just never understood why! ❤❤❤

How do so release myself or how to ask God. Trust God to release me. Why has it rested its head again. In time with your book. I realize. God is working on me still. How do u know when to begin forgiveness when u have been so sad for so long and the person causing u all this pain doesnt even know they are causing you so much pain and you are so depressed?

    • @saintejeannedarc9460
      @saintejeannedarc9460 Год назад

You begin forgiveness when you really make up your mind to. In cases of extreme trauma where you are left really wasted and depressed, you really have to go after it. I prayed for it, but I couldn't fathom what it was for the extreme case I had of continued cheating. I realized that praying for it wasn't enough, because I just couldn't fathom what it really was anymore or how I'd get there. Searching it out online and really watching videos on it and reading articles has helped. I'd say Lisa's videos have helped the most to make me realize what it is and how it's a process.
I finally got that God supernaturally helps us w/ it, and boy did I need that. I've been consumed w/ grief and all the bitterness of the nasty details of what happened. I was trying to practice thought stopping, and experimenting w/ how some say you have to sit in the grief, because what you resist persists.. When I really took in one of Lisa's videos of how God's forgiveness for us supernaturally flows through us and we just have to let that happen for the person that is really hard to forgive, there was finally an aha moment. It's contained in the Lord's Prayer: And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those that trespass against us. I knew then that forgiveness is just. If I want it, I have to give that same grace. As I recieve it, I can give that same grace. I felt a lifting that night.
The triggering thoughts came back the next day and I worried that I'd missed it again. I would say, I forgive a weak man for doing weak things. I would speak forgiveness to the anguished thoughts, and that was more powerful than merely thought stopping. I own a house w/ my ex, so there's still contact. Right after this renewed process of forgiveness, there was a new offense and I'm back to the drawing board for a few days in a tailspin of being really triggered and having a new thing to forgive, but it's much better than before. I hope something there helps. God bless. I know it's so hard when you're flattened by depression.

I’ve wondered the same thing. I finally realized I needed to forgive God, bc He allowed the situation to happen. I don’t understand why (and that rlly bugs me!) but I had to work on allowing myself to trust Him bc He knows what’s best. Ive mostly done (still do) this by taking every thought captive to Christ, and memorizing as much scripture as I can. (I use an app called Scripture Typer to distract my mind w Gods Word when my thoughts get too loud.)

Here are some recent surprising thoughts I have about God & the Christian life:
    Is God a misogynist?
Could he actually hate (some of) us?
He's SUPPOSED to provide; then why so often does He not?
Why is He so seemingly cruel at times?
I've searched & searched for Him. How could He STILL be so elusive?
Yes, I spend time in His word, in prayer, etc.
This is gonna sound backwards but...I feel like God pushes some of us straight to suicide. He said He won't put onus more than we can bear, but...
