This video came at just the right time as I've been looking at the different options in this style of smart lock. Any idea if there are any smart locks on the market currently in this style that connect with google home/alexa? Or anything on the horizon?
@@joncruiser1 I am in the same boat, I would love one I can lock\unlock not only locally but with home assistant also. would be nice to have a guest mode so certain areas are locked when guests are over.
Helpful Hint: I purchased this exact system based on seeing it on your videos. I had a horrible time getting it to recognize my fingerprint. It took about 3 to 4 times often to get it to recognize my fingerprint. To get around this, I registered my fingerprint 3 times (it can hold up to 20). Now, it is almost perfect at detecting my fingerprint and opening. It may not be necessary for you, but if you find yourself having a fit, try that and hopefully you will enjoy this handle as much as I do now.
That is a good tip. Can you help me - Hi. I bought two of your i-b201 biometer locks but can’t see how to program 2 admin fingerprints. If I put in my spouse then my fingerprint does not open the door. Your help is appreciated. James Alexander
Reed, I'm glad you clarified the bad reviews on Amazon. When you reviewed this lock a couple of months ago, I was going to buy it but changed my mind after reading the negative reviews. Now, I'm confident it's a great lock! Thanks!!!
It might not be 'smart' in the traditional smart home sense, but I think this is brilliant! The spare key to open the mechanism in case of device failure is very well designed too.
We use it to lock our closet door where we keep presents for birthdays and Christmas. Keeps snooping little ones out. Also found registering the same finger a few times improves accuracy.
We have two! Love them! When we go on vacation and have a dog sitter I can lock my garage & office. Just wish on install the handles straightened up a bit more to calm my ocd 😆
I got me one right after watching this video, and I love it. I had seen it in at least one of your past videos, but I'm glad you reviewed in more detail. Thank you so much!
Last week I asked you to make an update video on these, and now... you've done an update video! It's like having having my own personal RUclipsr service! 🙂 Great video, many thanks. I'm gonna order one now.
Dude so glad you made this! We’re building a new house and my office will be where the kids frequent often with lots of expensive gear. The reviews definitely steered me away from this but I might grab one now! Thanks as always For the great content
It's good that it's not connected to the internet sending you fingerprint data to some foreign country.... rather processing it locally... pretty slick there.
That’s stupid. It doesn’t need to send the finger print out. That’s not what being connected is for. It would be, so you can open the door remotely for someone. Or track the usage . Etc.
Regarding the bathroom, the only caution I'd raise is because it's a space that has more hazards (here, I mostly am thinking of slips, but electrocution and heart attacks on the toilet are things to be mindful of as well), if you lock yourself inside it will be more difficult to get help to you in an emergency if the backup fingerprints (family members) aren't around to open the door. It pretty much guarantees you'll always need to break down the door.
@@bigdougscommentary5719 Not quite, any small screwdriver like item can be used in most regular door locks. This seems to need special keys. Edit: Also, those are the tougher ones. Most just have a little piece that you push in with anything that will fit in the hole. Ex. A toothpick
Thankyou Reed I bought 2 of these doorlocks and will need a 3rd for our office. Advice to people that buy. The polarity listed on the battery compartment is backwards. Thankyou Reed for the recommendation
Man I can relate so much with the struggle to hide those M&Ms from my kids 🤣. The micro USB was a huge nope but if the batt lasts that long its totally fine.
Great review! I got a different version from Amazon without a rechargeable battery HT it has a keypad as well as fingerprint sensor. I was skeptical but tried it anyways. It works pretty well.
Can you clarify? Item does not appear to have a rechargeable battery according to the listing.... "Fingerprint door knob requires 4 AAA batteries , according to our test, the batteries can last for 12 months. There is a Micro USB emergency charge port for emergency unlock when the lock is out of battery. No worry about be locked outside."
Looks like there is a new 2022 model available that has an app and voice control. Anyone have any experience with the new model? Is it just as reliable as the previous model shown in this video?
A doorlock for your bathroom too prevent your kids seeing anything.... sound like the middle ages to me. We (here in NL) don't scare them, we just do normal over the human body. Still love your video's. But there is a use different in rasing kids across the ocean i think. In my childhood my sister locked herself in the bathroom one time; couldn't open the door. Ever since none of my family then, and now 40 years later my own family...nobody locks the door. Perhaps there is a market for a doorhandle to be opened from the outside - in case of emergencies.
Reed, I'm glad you're loving this lock, but after living with it for a year, we're looking forward to getting rid of it. At first, it worked as it was supposed to. Then the fingerprint sensor quit working. (Ours does not have the indented groove to help position your fingerprint - perhaps that was a more recent addition in response to problems like ours.) But the most annoying problem we've had is that it is too easy to hit the lock/unlock button accidentally, just by grabbing the handle to turn it. You can't just grab the handle and push - you have to learn to avoid touching the center of the handle to avoid the little button. I don't know why it wasn't put in a place where you'd have to deliberately reach for it. For the past few months, we've had contractors working in the house, so each crew member has to be taught how to put the door in unlocked mode, and what to do when the button is accidentally pressed. Overall, this lock has been a failure. The door is scheduled to be replaced, and we won't be using this lock again. I think the door handle is as discouraged as we are, because now it won't even snap back to horizontal, but droops down in the four or five o'clock position.
hi I was wondering if there wasn't something for patio doors that works with alexa. you know the little latch going up and down on the door, I wasn't able to find something that works!
I kind of like the debunking bad reviews on a product you like. Sweet review and it never ceases to amaze me about how I always want to buy the tech you showcase in each video :)
How is the lock holding up for those that's had it for a year or longer? Im a couple weeks in and some how my family members as well as my self are experiencing finger print issues already. Worked great at first but maybe the scanner is all smudged up so hard to read. My administrator print however works pretty well with a light touch. Print that does not have administrator privileges not so much. Was also told that batteries after first change degrades significantly. Any first hand experiences with battey longevity and reliability? If this doesn't improve soon then it's going back.
Be perfect for a childproofing and even to keep kids from getting outside. Be nice if front door WiFi locks included a fingerprint scanner on the inside handle for just such a purpose.
Loved your video. Thanks for posting it. Just got this door handle. I could set my fingerprint no problem but there is no instructions on how to add other fingerprints… Can you give me some information since I can’t seem to find anything in the box or online on how to add additional fingerprints.
I bought one of these locks and it worked perfectly the first day then the next day would only open once in a while and by the 5th day would open to any fingerprint. Eventually it locked completely and i had to drill it open

Am open to switch to home assistant if it has a solution .. ps i also would like to extend the zigbee network outdoor and garage... I already have full wifi home coverage.
Have you found a smart door lock that works with sliding patio doors? Preferably one that works with HomeKit. Most I seem to be finding are unknown brands that have no reviews.
I love your videos man, collecting sensors and buttons as we speak to automate our new place! Just curious if you have a recommendation for a small/inexpensive mesh system to make things run more smoothly. Everything I've seen reviewed is for large square footage and ours is small around 1000. Or is this necessary for a smaller space to run things?
Super cool handle! Great review! But wouldnt it have been better to have the charging port on the inside knob? That way you can leave it charging if you leave or are inside working. Or maybe even charging over night?
It is there, on the outside, as a way to give you access, in case the battery runs out of power and you do not have the backup keys with you. You just need to get a rechargeable USB charger, plug it in, and then the lock will power up, recognize your fingerprint, and give you access. If it was on the inside, you could not give it that "emergency power" to get in. Although, it would be very convenient if it had one on the inside, and one on the outside. That way, it would be convenient, as you mentioned, to leave it charging from the inside without worrying about the charger been stolen.
