    Why in the world didn't you take that antenna down with the gin pole? You can toss a rope over the 2nd element, and if it's not above the center of gravity, either tie a counterweight to the bottom of the mast, or just hold on to the bottom until it's lowered enough to tape the rope to the mast above the c/g, then safely lower it to the ground. I've put up and taken down many of these antennas and toweres over the years, and never did anything as dangerous or reckless as this. Never toss anything to the ground from the top of a tower!

    After 3 years I free climb them (yes ,against policy. 🤐) just another climb. After the baby step with my experience, I know for a fact with harness I would climb a tower with no worry.
    I tell this story because so many think they could never ,but you just need to get past the baby steps. I will also say that I don't think i would ever free climb a tower though hahaha I am strapping on.

      These antennas are very lightweight...admittedly my first time with it, but even though I did it this way here, I still wouldn't use a ginpole to move it next time. As far as damage to it, it seems they're becoming obsolete; cell is taking over the world, along with the internet!

You just want to hate because you are a big bad "profesional"... He isn't taking money from you, he is doing a favor for a local lady, he is probably taking it down for free in exchange for the tower... you think the company you are working for would do that work, get your head out of your ass and get back up the tower.

    The brackets holding the antenna to the tower leg are called 'parallel clamps"...manufactured by Trylon, Sinclair and knock offs by the Chinese of course.....
    Antenna is a 210-C4...if it had 4 folded dipoles on it.... missed fully viewing it on the way down....
    glad the antenna didn't hit a guy line on the "express" drop off the tower... good chance it would have taken the tower down or a least given the rigger a real scare and wild ride....
    lastly its a wise idea to have your belt below the section your are taking apart...if the top section separates for any reason ...you go with it....the rigger positioned his belt after taking out the bolts.... also I did not see a safety line on the tower jack.... good way to loose it off the top of the tower

      Guy cable needs to be wrapped around a thimble (a steel inner liner for the eye loop). Eye then connects to the tower guy loops or eye bolts. At ground level same setup only eye connects to a turnbuckle for tension adjustments. The guy cable should never be wrapped around the tower as seen here. Guy cable is only rated for a straight pull, no bends. Over time wind movement will work harden the cable strands an eventually break them. Using a thimble at both ends will allow movement without breaking. Stay safe and thanks for the video.

    • @tower9969
      @tower9969  6 лет назад +4

      well the guy wire is not wrapped around! Look at the dead end grip at 5 minutes...if the guying was wrapped around the tower, you would see the cable clamps securing it. Other than that, the thimbles ARE important, they prevent the cable from a precarious 'bend moment'. thanks jay jay

    The way those guy cables are "attached" makes that tower a recipe for disaster. It is easy to see that some wires are broken.

    The way this man talk's, I think he is expecting Failure. You have to believe in your Harness and Lines, but unexplainable stuff happens when "It" wants, not what you want. This is why use use "Antiseze" on the Tower connections. Can't believe this guy is playing with his iPhone.

    I have to wonder, how does one attach the guy wires. Does the tower get towed up? - ignore the silly comments. I don't see and issue here except the positioning hook personally myself I would have tucked it under the section being removed just incase it was rotten or the hook jumped. But I'm not there.. not climbing it. Good work. Should have painted a circle on the ground and taken bets at aim though !!

    • @swiftswamp
      @swiftswamp 4 года назад

      Usually they build the tower as they go up, so the initial setup wouldn't have any guy wires on it until someone climbs to the top of that section at the time and connect them.. at least on smaller ones anyways.
