The funeral scene is amazing, because it brings out such an emotional response for a character we've never even seen (pre-abstraction), and we don't hear what any of the characters who did know him have to say. But between the music and just the way they act, we can experience it the way Pomni does. She never met Kaufmo either, but it's obvious how much the others cared about him. tl;dr minimal detail, maximum impact

7:30 "[Caine] is the god of this universe. But somebody made him, so is he really..." The Amazing Digital Circus is a metaphor for the Gnostic conception of the world, and Caine is the Demiurge. A deeply flawed prison for souls come down from a higher reality. Run by an equally flawed creator, who in his ignorance thinks he's god. Keeping the souls pacified and glutted with base and empty pleasures, to stop them from seeking escape.
Makes me wonder about another franchise, "From." The people there are trapped in a town that has monsters that come out at night to torture and to kill them. But we have not seen an obvious demiurge, yet. No one is in control keeping these people trapped.

I'm reminded of a quote from The Good Place (the part where they were doing the Trolley Problem): "See buddy? Don't worry, none of this is real." "Well, they're fake people, but their _pain_ is real." When Jax says "I'm so unbelievably disappointed right now," the French captions say "My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined." "If I start losing track of who's a human and who's an NPC, who knows what... could happen..." From this line, it's being hypothesized that Caine may have poofed a human before, or caused some other terrible thing to happen, due to losing track between humans and NPCs. It's been confirmed by Gooseworx herself, as part of the premise of the show, that Caine is in fact an advanced AI that has almost full control over the digital world, and is simply trying his best to accommodate for the trapped humans, but struggles since he has barely any understanding of humans and emotions. He isn't malicious, just negligently ignorant.
Pomni's fears are completely rational given how she was directly attacked by the abstracted caufmo, and learning in the pilot if you reach a breaking point of giving up on what's real and what's not what's the point of living, effectively giving up your humanity to the point of becoming an abstract concept. Safe to say she's afraid of losing herself and being forgotten like she never mattered, as if it was all pointless. But seeing caufmo's funeral service let's her know that she matters and is not alone.
absolutely! her having that affirmation of sorts that she will have still made an impact and have mattered to people is probably really helping her mental
gotta love whenever a show hits you with the most emotional shit you've seen in a long time to get immediately whiplashed by happy outro music also something worth pointing out, at the end when we see Pomni's hand being caught by all the gang when she had the realization she's not alone, we only see the hands of Ragatha, Gangle, Zooble and Kinger, _yet not Jax's._ i have the feeling this is more meant to represent Pomni not thinking he would give a damn rather than him actually not giving a damn since we count notice at least for a split of a second that deep down he does care
So many theories already buzzing around. Here's a few things I've found other reactors have noticed: The tea pots are actually a commonly used model for 3D imaging, which is why they're just floating in the backrooms. Kinger has an obsession with bugs... someone thought that's because he's a coder for the game and coders fix (and are perhaps a little obsessed) with "bugs" in the game. All the "people" in the CCK were just mannequins because they were never intended to be interacted with. Even the princess is a little flat because she's just the quest giver. Nobody in the kingdom really matters. The crocs were more flushed out, with motives and backstories to give them motivations and potential dialogues. The Fudge (and Ragatha) were nods to an ancient movie made back in the 70's: Raggedy Ann and Andy, The Movie (I think?). The Fudge is directly inspired by a character in the movie known as The Greedy. Same constant hunger for candy, same willingness to eat even living things if it would sate it's hunger. The one I really appreciated was noticed by both you and Nux Taku: That tiny moment when Jax showed that he actually cared about Kaufmo before his cynicism pulled the mask back into place. Nux is convinced that Jax is going to have an interesting character development. Nearly everyone noticed that Jax and Caine were not shown catching Pomni's outstretched hand, but Zooble, Ragatha, Kinger and Gangle did. Kinger's is particularly difficult to see as he doesn't have arms. I think most of them figured this was foreshadowing, but I disagree. Pomni just recognized that Jax and Caine were not good people and wouldn't help her... but I think she's wrong about Jax. Like Nux, I think Jax is far more nuanced than being just a bully-asshole to everyone. I think he's working on the idea that if he's stuck here and his sanity is on the line, the best way forward is to bury his feelings and play into his darkest urges. The internet seems twisted up about this, having found Jax a loveable mischief-maker in the pilot, only to discover that he's a serious prick in this episode. I have a few predictions: I think at some point either Pomni or Ragatha is going to snap the leash and treat Caine or Jax or both to a world of repressed rage. I'm leaning towards Pomni, but I think that Ragatha is primed to loose her inner demons on Jax at some point. Caine. AI? Developer? Sadistic human who deliberately trapped everyone in TADC ala Sword Arf Online? Caine said he developed the new AI to be "57 times more immersive" which seems odd as I'd argue Gummygoo is more real than he is. Of course the Cain and Abel thing along with the Gnostic references seem to really play into his and Pomni's design. Last episode's final scene was noted to be reminiscent of DaVinci's Last Supper, with Pomni wearing a similar color pattern to Christ. All that was brought up by other reactors, but my thought is this: We're going to meet Abel, or an Abel-like character in the future. Zooble is voiced by Ashley Nichols, who has been in a committed relationship with Michael Kovach, and I am loving that fact. Go look up Hunicast and give it a listen. She had A LOT of the original voice actors for Hazbin Hotel on her show, as well as some other shows (the Beastars Hunicast is a fucking riot!). I think her character is going to be reeeeaaaaally fun to explore. Anywho, another great reaction, you amazing little demon gremlin! Thank you!
I’m so convinced we’re gonna get Jax’s equivalent of Hazbin Hotel episode 4 at some point and it’s gonna hurt cuz I get major Angel vibes from Jax (yes I know Jax’s VA was Angel in the pilot) and I’m gonna be a wreck if/when we get that episode
I honestly kinda love that Jax isn't a cookie cutter "silly little twink that's mean sometimes" and is truly, as described by Gooseworx, an asshole. I love seeing his mask slip off tho! love the concept of Kinger being a developer that hunts bugs in the game! there's so much silliness is this show that can be skewed versions of reality also the Bubble being Able is a cool thought! I didn't consider that before
@@Johnmaloney1962that cant be, everyone's age is already confirmed except Caine's for obvious reasons FUN FACT: Jax is the youngest of the group and kinger has more than twice his age
The fact that he specifically says "who knows what could happen?" implies that he's never ACTUALLY mistaken a human for an NPC (or vice-versa) before. However, I think his disturbed reaction is because he's just thinking of what could hypothetically happen if he did. There's not enough reason to think he's actually deleted a human before, especially since in ep 1 he said he can't control any of the human's minds, implying that he CAN'T fully delete them anyway.
The "all the love I'm legally allowed to give" line from the pilot makes me think that bubble is more degenerate than you think but I kinda love thinking bubble is a mass murderer.
One thing I love…bubble wasn’t bleeped with the normal digital cercus style, implying (to me at least) that bubble was censored for the benefit of the AUDIENCE, not the characters
I'm guessing Caine must've seen something happen with bringing an NPC back to the Circus. Dude seemed pretty concerned in that one frame that looks like a reference to a noot noot meme
he did seem really concerned! even w/o knowing how long the Digital Circus existed, it's fair to assume something bad had happened before as a result of that exact scenario
@@chatteringbox7583 I was thinking an NPC got Abstracted, which infected the whole game. I think there was also a brief mention of Abel in the pilot, so I guess it could've reminded Caine of his brother...
@NevaehEvol I got it, but I immediately went to Mousey in the Bathroom. Which... I think Ironmouse would be excellent as a guest character in this. Seems about her speed.

I like your headcanon! Personally, with our very brief look at the (presumed) computer and headset where this is taking place at the end of episode 1, part of me... contemplates... whether the outside world is in a good state or if it's potentially post-apocalyptic or collapsed in some way.

@@NevaehEvol Just checked apparently its the Hindi language and in that version Bubbles said: "If I had my way, I would become a dentist and pull out everyone's teeth. 100% believe Jax revealed he has his memory from the real world when he mentioned "Augustus Gloop"! Totally a clue that he is working for the powers behind the circus. I also think the scene where the trucks were going over the rough terrain gave us another hint. Everyone bounced around in the truck but the camera was locked on Jax's face so it appeared that his head wasnt moving. When you add that to his talking to the camera in the 1st ep but they tried to hide that fact by having Ragatha think he was looking at her in a "weird" way. His reward/payment is a free hand to entertain himself and perks like having "keys to everywhere" in the circus. i ultimately think that whether it started for a different purpose the current goal of the circus is to create mindless A.I superweapons, the Abstracted human minds. Caine's role is to distract them with nonsense games while watching them slowly give up and Abstract. I suspect that the "Exit door" he created was designed to push Kaufmo over the edge. Appearing only to him, disappearing, and finally to be pointless when he does get inside. Being that it just accomplished its task Caine didnt know to disable it yet so Pomni got caught up with it.... maybe because she and Kaufmo are both clown/jester types? 🤔
It's weird, I always thought the NPCs just naturally saw Caine as a God and never even considered the prospect that Caine specifically designed them to view him as a God, though the latter does seem more likely given that he created everything in the Candy Canyon Kingdom. It's also funny to see initial speculation that Gummigoo will be resentful of Caine for putting his village and mother in the state that they're in, when in reality, Caine didn't even bother going that far. He only included what was necessary in terms of what the human players would theoretically encounter, meaning even though he gave Gummigoo a motive for what he did, he didn't bother actually making a model for his mother since I guess Caine never really though or expected the human characters to actually go to Gummigoo's village and see her. This makes it all the more twisted that Caine decided to test out a new AI that he says will make the adventure 57 more immersive, when all it means is that Gummigoo is now sentient enough to have existential dread over realizing he's an NPC designed to be fought and defeated in what is ultimately a trivial distraction for the human players. This all contributes to just how callous is when it comes to not only the humans that enter the Digital Circus, but the NPCs he creates. This is highlighted when Gummigoo enters to circus with the human characters, and Caine just instantly pops him into confetti without letting either Gummigoo or Pomni explain why he's here. While I do understand why he did it, he doesn't want to do anything harmful to a human he thinks is an NPC, it again show how much he disregards digital creations, treating them exactly the way Gummigoo feared, and that's to say nothing about how oblivious he is to human emotions to the point where he doesn't even consider what kind of emotional damage this did to Pomni. This is why I really love Caine as a character, he isn't an outright villain, nor is he intentionally cruel or malicious, he's just an advanced AI that isn't advanced enough to consider deeper thoughts like the emotional needs of humans and at what point does an AI start to become more than just program designed to fulfill a specific role. There truly is a lot of depth to his characterization, more than I think some people give him credit for (same with Jax, whose characterization I think a large number of fans completely missed the point of with this second episode). I also would like to applaud you for calling out Pomni for initially disregarding what Gummigoo was going through. I know you took it back after Pomni started to console him, but that's just it, Pomni didn't actually seem to register what Gummigoo was going through until she actually asked him. This suggest to me that Pomni is not very good at reading people, and has a tendency to prioritize her own problems in such a way that she disregards others. This is best shown with how she acts around Ragatha, despite Ragatha being not only nothing but friendly to her, but also being REALLY patient and understanding with what Pomni is going through, Pomni acts incredibly stand-offish to her, even imagining her taunting Pomni during the opening nightmare sequence. As funny as the whole "I'm not a child, you don't have to hype me up" line is, it still feels very blunt and cold towards someone who is really trying her hardest to make Pomni feel better, and who honestly is probably going through her own emotional issues too (despite saying they're "all good" in regards to Pomni abandoning her, I'm almost certain Ragatha still felt upset or disappointed by it but is choosing to hide it in order to make Pomni feel better). Pomni is also a great character in this regard, she's clearly not a bad person, but has her own flaws when it comes to interacting with other people, something she's become better at by the end of this episode, I think. Like, man... SO many great bits of writing in this episode, it's why I love this series when just watching the pilot merely made me "like" it!
I believe Caine's horrified expression when he talked about confusing npc's for humans was referring to Bubble. I think Bubble got in from a game, and, as an AI, he stayed in the circus long enough to be invulnerable to Caine's powers. "Why are you like this?" "You PARASITE!" "Bubble, you can't say that"
Why is Nevaeh like one of the only channels I actually listen to when they ask to press the like? Like your content and reactions are just soo good, even if I only found your channel a few months ago with Hazbin honestly one of my favorite reaction channels on this side of youtube. Thanks for the video, have a good day!
This episode made me consider two ideas: The first that Caine isn't a programming AI, and is simply using existing assets his own designers made as well and rearranging them, so his Admin controls are less ground up programming and more RPG Maker/Mario Maker/Mine craft creative mode kind of control, and some of the other AI are actually newer/more advanced than he is, just without the admin controls like he has. The other is I suspect Jax may believe he is the only human there, given how he acts and reacts, possibly because he might be able to still feel his body (hunger, breathing, etc...) while the others are either fully in or are like mind clones *each person could be in there in different ways*, sure didn't look like Pomni or anyone was sitting at that desk in the real world at the end of last episode that she had recognized inside the copied space. So Pomni sucked in like Digimon, Jax has a headset on in a hospital/lab bed like Sword Art Online.
Thinking it over, if the show ReBoot ever gets a real return I think Glitch would be the perfect ones to make it, heck it even fits the theme of their productions.
It makes me think Gummigoo wasn't killed, just sent back. Now that he's self aware, I think he'll find a way to make it through and return to the circus, like in Reboot, AndrAIa was an NPC, and she was able to live in mainframe. So.....
@@MisterDamocles | There isn't anywhere for him to be "sent" to. You don't waste processing power simulating environments and AI that the players aren't interacting with. The Candy Canyon Kingdom ceased to exist the moment that portal closed.
While the last episode ended mocking Pomni's suffering, this episode ended with taking her suffering more seriously, with her learning that she has a family in the circus.

I was looking forward to see your take on this Episode, this was funny and not just due to the Episode itself, But before this Episode came out, I had watched a Video that was trying to make a full Episode with just what we had at the time, which was just the Teaser and I gotta say, while nothing everything was one to one, I’d say there was some things, like Pomni’s Dream, how Gangle would lose her Comedy Mask again and the Syrup, was spot on(there was also the Scene where Gummigoo is looking back at his Buddy who was doing the Pizza Tower References at the time), it’s was quite interesting to see. Although, of course, as I was figuring at the time too, those where the only things that were Spot on, since it was all under the assumption that the Entire Episode would happen in the Location where the Adventure would be taking place in, an assumption that I was under too, but no, we once again ended up with a situation where Pomni went off course and got somewhere she probably shouldn’t be, except she had someone with her this time, Well, at least she actually partook in the Adventure this time, unlike in the Pilot, even if it was just in the Beginning. Anyway, about the Episode itself, I’d say having this Episode take place just the Day after the Pilot is pretty fair, since, assuming that they do Adventures every Day, this would be Pomni’s Actual First Adventure, since she didn’t actually partake in the one meant for her when she first arrived, even though like i said she was only part of it halfway, Also, it also made the Funeral Scene at the end feel more fitting, by the way about that Scene, I find it very interesting that Jax ended up not being part of the Funeral and who he was not featured amongst the Hands that prevented Pomni’s Metaphorical Fall, now that part could just be due to him not being part of the Funeral, but considering what the Curators has said about Jax, i think it’s a detail that’s worth keeping in mind for the Future. Anyway, with all of that now being out of the way, i am now left wondering: Will every Episode take place just the Day after the Previous One or could we expect Episodes to have at least a couple of Days in between them from now on? Will Pomni get out of the Adventure and into some kind of Out of bounds moment every Episode? If so, while that would be interesting, I would appreciate to see at least one Episode where Pomni stays in the Adventure all the way through, because I don’t think we need a Out-of-Bounds Moment every time to make a Episode worthwhile. On to of that, will Pomni bond with more NPCs in one way or another and will she end up having them learn something about themselves too? I also wonder if we’ll ever get to see Loo and Gummigoo again? Now, I am aware that the Candy Canyon Kingdom was probably just meant to be for this Episode, hence why it was sent off the way it did, still I would like to see some kind of Aftermath to what Jax did. Also, i wonder if we’ll ever get to a point in time where Pomni won’t stutter all the time or at least not when it counts? If so, i will look forward to see what might lead us there. Anyway, regardless of it all, this Episode has made me even more excited to see how this Show will play out, I can’t wait for more Episodes. What do you think could be next?
Despite Goose saying that Jax gets even worse as the episodes go on, I hope he gets SOME kind of redemption in the future. I feel like his brutish nature is a bit TOO mean to be a very likeable character in my book. His design is cute and his smug sassiness is fun, but outright abusing your companions is outta pocket.

I have a theory that Jax is an AI. I don't have that much evidence for it, but I have a couple reasons for thinking that: -In the first episode, Jax is shown a) seeming to feel pain when Zooble chokes him, b) being out of breath from running, and c) stating "I can still be hungry, can't I?" It's outright stated that they can't be hungry, and no other character is shown to actually feel pain when injured outside of when Ragatha was glitching in episode 1. The being out of breath part may not be that big a deal; Pomni does start breathing harder when she gets freaked out, but I don't think we've seen any other character panting from physical exertion. -When he says "Aren't you supposed to be submissive and agreeable?" it seems like he's almost got keywords that he uses to profile other people, and when their behavior doesn't line up with that profile he gets kinda put off by it. Like he doesn't understand the intricacies of real human personalities despite having deeper layers himself. Admittedly that's a symptom of autism, but considering the context I think that Jax is an AI, not an autistic person... Would be kind of ironic if my autistic ass encountered an autistic character and said "You know what? AI." though.
You know, this episode, with how life like the NPC's are, and Caines reaction to the NPC, makes me wonder. Are Pomni and the others even real people. Or are they also just NPC's that Caine has cooked up trying to pretend he is not alone? Is Caine even real, and if not, is he aware of this? After all, if they never existed outside "the game" then there is no entrance, thus no exit, and if death is not an option, then there is truly "No Way Out".
that actually correlates to my HC really well! I think they aren't "real people" per se, simply copies of real people that put on the headset; no isekai here, just computers that firmly believe theyre real people
On the Bubble censorship, I’ve had a thought: most of the established censorship in digital Circus has that funny Kaine pop up and sound effect. But with Bubble it’s just a bleep. The funeral scene is amazing, because it brings out such an emotional response for a character we've never even seen (pre-abstraction), and we don't hear what any of the characters who did know him have to say. I'm reminded of a quote from The Good Place (the part where they were doing the Trolley Problem): "See buddy? Don't worry, none of this is real." "Well, they're fake people, but their _pain_ is real."
When Jax says "I'm so unbelievably disappointed right now," the French captions say "My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined."
"If I start losing track of who's a human and who's an NPC, who knows what... could happen..." From this line, it's being hypothesized that Caine may have poofed a human before, or caused some other terrible thing to happen, due to losing track between humans and NPCs.
This episode solidified my belief that Kinger is the definition of 'He's a little confused, but he's trying'.
bless his heart
gotta love whenever a show hits you with the most emotional shit you've seen in a long time to get immediately whiplashed by happy outro music
also something worth pointing out, at the end when we see Pomni's hand being caught by all the gang when she had the realization she's not alone, we only see the hands of Ragatha, Gangle, Zooble and Kinger, _yet not Jax's._ i have the feeling this is more meant to represent Pomni not thinking he would give a damn rather than him actually not giving a damn since we count notice at least for a split of a second that deep down he does care
So many theories already buzzing around. Here's a few things I've found other reactors have noticed:
The tea pots are actually a commonly used model for 3D imaging, which is why they're just floating in the backrooms.
I have a few predictions:
I think at some point either Pomni or Ragatha is going to snap the leash and treat Caine or Jax or both to a world of repressed rage.

Be more chill referenceeeedd 14:56
ayeeee
I believe Caine's horrified expression when he talked about confusing npc's for humans was referring to Bubble. I think Bubble got in from a game, and, as an AI, he stayed in the circus long enough to be invulnerable to Caine's powers. "Why are you like this?" "You PARASITE!" "Bubble, you can't say that"

Kinger is really a good person for comforting Ragatha. He mide be a bit crazy and is physicaly unstable but a good friend (I think) ^^

I was looking forward to see your take on this Episode, this was funny and not just due to the Episode itself,
But before this Episode came out, I had watched a Video that was trying to make a full Episode with just what we had at the time, which was just the Teaser and I gotta say, while nothing everything was one to one, I’d say there was some things, like Pomni’s Dream, how Gangle would lose her Comedy Mask again and the Syrup, was spot on(there was also the Scene where Gummigoo is looking back at his Buddy who was doing the Pizza Tower References at the time), it’s was quite interesting to see.
Although, of course, as I was figuring at the time too, those where the only things that were Spot on, since it was all under the assumption that the Entire Episode would happen in the Location where the Adventure would be taking place in, an assumption that I was under too,
but no, we once again ended up with a situation where Pomni went off course and got somewhere she probably shouldn’t be, except she had someone with her this time,
Well, at least she actually partook in the Adventure this time, unlike in the Pilot, even if it was just in the Beginning.
Anyway, about the Episode itself,
I’d say having this Episode take place just the Day after the Pilot is pretty fair,
since, assuming that they do Adventures every Day, this would be Pomni’s Actual First Adventure, since she didn’t actually partake in the one meant for her when she first arrived, even though like i said she was only part of it halfway,
Also, it also made the Funeral Scene at the end feel more fitting, by the way about that Scene, I find it very interesting that Jax ended up not being part of the Funeral and who he was not featured amongst the Hands that prevented Pomni’s Metaphorical Fall, now that part could just be due to him not being part of the Funeral, but considering what the Curators has said about Jax, i think it’s a detail that’s worth keeping in mind for the Future.
Anyway, with all of that now being out of the way, i am now left wondering:
Will every Episode take place just the Day after the Previous One or could we expect Episodes to have at least a couple of Days in between them from now on?

-In the first episode, Jax is shown a) seeming to feel pain when Zooble chokes him, b) being out of breath from running, and c) stating "I can still be hungry, can't I?" It's outright stated that they can't be hungry, and no other character is shown to actually feel pain when injured outside of when Ragatha was glitching in episode 1.
You know what “reset” is do you?
Fun Fact: most people never noticed your name is Love Heaven Backwards... Tlking of Backwards WATCH EPISODE 3!!!
@@munchmandrifta I ALREADY WATCHED IT. LIVE ON STREAM.
“Maybe I’m being a hater”
O O………………crap how did you find out part of my Neveah alias list O O;;;
Great video nev
Glad you enjoyed it!
I think they aren't "real people" per se, simply copies of real people that put on the headset; no isekai here, just computers that firmly believe theyre real people
I ship Ragatha and Pomni
Are we talking Titanic, The Enterprise or Evergreen?
and what's the shipping price or is it included?
@@MouseGoat lol funny
On the Bubble censorship, I’ve had a thought: most of the established censorship in digital Circus has that funny Kaine pop up and sound effect. But with Bubble it’s just a bleep. What does this mean? No idea. Could be an implication would bubble said it was extra bad. Or (tinfoil hat equipped) maybe it wasn’t even a swear/lewd/violent thing they were censoring… Ehh, who knows?
PS “What time period is this supposed to be again?” - J R R Tolkien to C S Lewis, paraphrased.
A.I. or not, I'm still pissed at Caine and the writers for that.
I mean, come on! He would added something interesting in the story. Plus, I just want Pomni to be happy.
you and me both, gamer
