I do get a bit nostalgic over stuff from the early 2000's. Like, I could sum up what I feel is iconic about the early 2000's with a few simple things: - Shiny reflective suitcases. - Sunglasses displays (the big white plastic ones that spin) - Hallways that have dark reflective walls. - The Aston Martin V12 Vanquish - Late 90's hits from Faith Hill, Paula Cole, Natalie Imbruglia, Del Amitri, Sixpence None The Richer, Sugar Ray, and Shawn Colvin, playing nonstop on the radio. - Pierce Brosnan - Vanessa Carlton "A Thousand Miles" - Action movies having bad guys carry laser pointers on their guns, even tough they do nothing but give away their positions. - Jim Carrey's How The Grinch Stole Christmas - the Nintendo GameCube - the Star Wars EU at it's near peak. - The Tonight Show with Jay Leno And I'm probably forgetting a few things.
KamekAdvance I think you forgot Bratz, 4Kids, Gameboy Advance and Nintendo DS, The REAL Xbox One, Mary Kate & Ashely reaching their peak, the first Bayformers (which isn't as awful as the later sequels...), Online Gaming, Animated shows started to get... questionable... and the World Trade Center...
+J Dee Carter I wasn't aware she wrote a song about that. I lived in Washington State at the time, and I know Washington State is a place where a lot of old school democrats live, so... I don't know???
weird HD-but-still-fake-looking footage transition from supplemental CGI to full CGI close-up on one guy on the phone while someone else is in the background just kind of standing still and blurred revival of comic panel-style direction and editing
I love "The Snob" but I also always enjoy anything with Brad in it. It's cool to see that although he isn't "The Snob." You can still see that Brad doesn't have to dig too deep to find "The Snob" ("The Snob" is just Brad turned up a few notches ) Keep up the great work, and I hope I get a cookie for most " "s used in a post.
saw it in theatres, the guys sitting next to me talking was far more entertaining. The scene where they ripped open the wall to show the skeleton the guy just looked up and said 'aw, she dead' and I never laughed so hard
Have we hit a time warp without realizing and ended up in 2002 again? Two months into the new year and we have Resident Evil, XXX, Rings, and Underworld (released in 2003 but close enough). Seriously. What the shit is going on?
No, the original was called Ring, because Sadako was tossed into a well and it was covered up. And the last thing she saw was the ring of light shining through. The video shows the victims the same image. Where does the plural come from? Why would anyone see multiple rings?
I guess that make sense, in a way. It just seems like a really flimsy title when they had to invent a term to justify it. That means the "Ring" in the original is totally different than the "Rings" in the sequel. It's like if "Alien" was about a space monster, and "Aliens" was about Mexican immigrants. How stupid.
Petition to have every would-be horror franchise needlessly attempting a sequel at the end of a first movie have that clip of Brad going 'oh no, it's startin again blurrghh'.
That thing you guys talked about that was only five minutes in the movie, was its own short film on the DVDs for both The Ring and Ring Two! It's pretty great too. It's also called Rings.
It 100% gets the Bye Bye Man audience, the theater I work at got shitloads of teenagers who wanted to see it just because it's a horror movie they don't need their parents to get in, and our theater didn't get Bye Bye Man.
there is a subway in Cincinnati. It was never put into use for some reason though, so now the only people who venture down there are the homeless, spelunkers, and the occasional rogue cosplayer
25:06 ECKSHUALLY... jk. In all seriousness, Cincinnati was supposed to have a subway, but construction has been stagnant for something like 80 years. What has been constructed is quite popular with Urban Explorers.
The second John Wick has a higher body count in it's trailer that in the entirety of the Ring? I'm sold, baby! 😍 The first movie was really good, I hope the sequel will be at least enjoyable...
7:50 It does bother me the whole "VHS is ancient" thing. I'm under 20 and I watch VHS tapes because that was the format when I was a wee lad! I used to make recordings of TV shows and play them to get to sleep.
Honestly if I'm going to see a horror movie this weekend, I'll go watch resident evil again. The editing in tht movie was far more scary than the rings remake can ever hope to be.
+Daddyo Krsna Oh yes. I saw the American version and hated it, then I checked out the original Japanese version and holy shit it scared me so much I could barely sleep for a few days, not many horror movies can do that to me. It was really good, I highly recommend Ju-On over the western remake.
I assumed this movie would be worthless, but when you described that university class plotline I was actually intrigued. Shame that wasn't the A plot... or even the B plot, really, from the sound of things. No, clearly a cliche rando couple is far more interesting than a class systematically researching a murderous ghost, and all the ways that could potentially go wrong.
No, the whole sub-plot with the secret tape-watching society was stupid, too. Galecki is a professor trying to prove that ghosts exists, so he has people watch the tape then reads the electromagnetic waves that Samara is supposedly producing...giving the franchise a more science fiction take on things, which nobody asked for.
It's the sequel of Ring. I guess...somehow, people randomly figured out that they had to pass the video on to live? Because the first one ended with Rachel and Aiden making another video because Aiden had watched it? But...that didn't work, because Samara was after them in the second one(which I don't really remember).
Heather Shanholtz yeah when the main character finds out she's saved herself she finds out her kid will still die and his father did die, so they go through the process of passing on the tape for people to watch to save themselves. Which if I remember right the second film opens up with someone making his girlfriend watch it so he won't die...that part of the story ends pretty quickly though 😑
Yeah, I remember that the girlfriend doesn't watch it. Like, she puts the tape in but she covers her eyes. So the boyfriend still dies at the beginning
Cincinnati actually has a partially-completed subway they built a century ago, but they ran out of money to finish it so the tunnels are just sitting there unused
Oh god, Spiral. The only things I remember was that it was really disappointing (because Rasen was my favorite of the novels) and that they removed all the horrifying immaculate conception stuff so they could have the main character have sex with Sadako instead. (Which is hilariously dumb if you know her backstory from the books.) Did they even have the characters from the first one be wrong about how the curse work and all ether die or kill themselves from guilt?
This "Rings" movie was a better sequel to the first one than the official "Ring 2". I somehow understand the hate towards it, but I went to the cinema with low expectations and actually came out surprised. It has a sluggish third act, but there are some good twists, the pacing was good at the beginning, some clever nods to the public happen from time to time, Daveigh Chase is involved in past footage and it tries to tie in with "Spiral" (the original book from Koji Suzuki, true sequel to the original Ring). This last detail is particularly important, since both Japanese and American sequels kept on with the curse instead of evolving. People unfamiliar with the books will hate the ending and pretty much feel it squandered the whole movie, which is arguably a bold move from the writer/director, but it is fine I guess... movies at some point should appeal to the public to be commercially successful, but shouldn't forget to be what the author envisioned at first. In that sense, "Rings" works better than "Ring 2".
I'm so happy that you guys hated The Apparition as much as I did. I remember watching that and being so goddamn mad when it was over. Mostly because I didn't walk out to get my money back before it ended.
Is Don't Breath worth picking up? Seems like you liked it? I keep passing it by in my library assuming it's some generic bullshit but if it's legitimately gr8 I'll pick it up.
I watched the movie without seeing many of the trailers. For most, I was like "Okay, this is adequate. Not seen any other Ring movies, but it seems fine." Then the ending came and I was like "What? How was this foreshadowed? How was is established she would attempt this? Now I want to see how the Ring-pocalypse goes."
I also got to the end thinking they made that hair ball scene for the trailer and then it pops up. Then I also thought the guy looked like an alien Adam Scott. And it would have been much more interesting following Johnny Galecki. Still, I really enjoyed Rings.
the fact thatSplit is better than Rings didnt even occourt in the peoples heads who are responsible for the schedule. all they thought was: "Split? whats that? noone knows that name.. but Rings that Name should sell some tickets"
I've seen Sadako Vs. Kayako. They released it on Blu-ray subbed in HongKong already. Not a very good movie but ridiculous enough to give it at least a watch. Sounds the teacher is inspired on the teacher from Sadako Vs. Kayako. They have an urban legends obsessed teacher in that who wants to get the haunted video tape by any means to meet Sadako.
I've only seen two reviews of this movie that could, in any way, be considered "positive"...one got a grade of "C" with a comment of "It wasn't as bad as I was expecting it to be," and the other was from The Devil's Advocrits, and he goes out of his way to oppose Rotten Tomatoes, so......... **sighs** ... as someone who truly LOVED "The Ring" (and, therefore, truly HATED "The Ring Two"), I'm sad about this. You're right -- they should have followed Johnny Galecki and the group who were experimenting with watching the tape and documenting their experiences before passing it on. That was the premise of a short, also called "Rings," that was released between "The Ring" and "The Ring Two," so, when I heard that a full-length movie called "Rings" was coming out, I was VERY excited. I assumed it would be about that group...what a deep disappointment.
The rumor was that Rings didn't want to compete with Ouija: Origin of Evil, so it was pushed to February opposite Space Between Us. Anyone that didn't want a YA romance could watch a horror movie.
The US remake of The Ring is one of my favorite movies of all time, and I consider it to be THE best remake of all time. The Japanese version is great and has a lot to offer, but I feel the US remake is better. The director Gore Verbinski did a amazing job. Really beautifully shot with a gloomy blue tone to the film, it has a mysterious ghost story with a doomy ominous mood, great performances and Samara is more memorable than the original Japanese version. It doesn't rely on any jump scares that I can remember which is a rarity in any main stream released horror movie nowadays. Too bad they kept going after that with Ring 2 (which is really puzzling why it is so bad considering it was directed by Nakada Hideo who is the original director of the original Japanese The Ring), and now this pile of shit. Oh well, I recommend seeing The Ring US version first, then the Japanese version and just leave it at that. Or just look at this: s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/d7/6e/3f/d76e3f0db8df50f8f4145e170cb2a8f0.jpg
You should check out the novel Ringu is based on. It's nothing like the movies, and it awful! I don't mean like regular awful, I mean like really, really awful. Also, I like the American remake better too, and so do my Japanese parents.
I have briefly seen the novel Ringu and yes, it does at first glance look awful. That is cool that you like the American version better, I think it really deserves more attention and is under rated or under looked at least as a remake.
"Let's bring back the early 2000s" you say?? I can see a bright side to this... no wait they'd probably just do a live action remake and I don't want that. never mind.
I actually don't mind Johnny Galecki that much. The little amount of Big Bang that I was forced to watch showed me that he's the least annoying part of it. The most annoying was Jim Parsons, by far. I can't stand him.
The Naomi Watts version of "The Ring" is WAY better than "Ringu", and BOTH are way better than the original book. However stupid "Ringu" was with its mildly-surprised-looking-corpses and "I ALSO AM A PSYCHIC NOW, EVEN THOUGH IT WAS NEVER MENTIONED PREVIOUSLY AND IS NEVER MENTIONED AGAIN!" nonsense, it beat having a plot based around a psychic intersexual who creates a mutated smallpox virus because he can't have babies (due to a lack of womb).
RLM (among others) have been using the term "soft reboot". It's a sequel but it also will hit similar notes to the original. The Force Awakens and Jurassic World are two really prime examples.
I'm not sure "disappointed" is the right word to describe how I feel about this being terrible, but I'm something that isn't quite OK with it. I'm whelmed? Not overwhelmed, not underwhelmed, just whelmed. Oh well.
So was there any reason for this movie to exist? I mean The Ring 2 wasn't good, but it was by all means a sequel that built off of the first one. Is this just a copy and past sequel?
They're probably hoping it does well so they can continue the story on, tbh. Just based off of how it apparently ends. I feel like they completely avoided the second movie and acted as if it didn't exist, sort of like they're continuing the Child's Play series but are going to ignore things like Bride of Chucky and Seed of Chucky.
I really want Backseat Letty to start writting on sheets of paper and occasionally hold it up in the middle of the view to correspond with the review, whilst still trying to keep out of sight so it just looks like annotations are popping up. Like: '/Sigh' 'Still Alive' 'Movie makes me wish I wasn't' '(╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻'
The Ring was a movie I always wanted to see, and when I did, I wasn't impressed. And The Ring Two? Please. Please do yourself a favor and watch it. It is TERRIBLE. There is nothing good in that movie. I saw it in the theater and could not hold back the laughter.
Anyone who thought this movie would be good was lying to themselves. You can tell how good a films gonna be by the promotion, if it's getting zero publicity it's probably gonna suck.
"Umbrella jump scare" is about to become the new "Pop Tart jump scare."
now I want a phelous and brad crossover review on Ringu
DontMindMeNow you watch Jordan to if that's where you got it from
DontMindMeNow rip jumpscare Kirby
It's a tie between Pop Tart jumpscare from Silent Hill and "click the fucking link" jumpscare from Unfriended as the most absurd in cinematic history.
Pulp Fiction had a pretty good Pop Tart jump scare.
You had me at, "Fakeout Dream Sequence." Immediately, I recall the Final Destination one, and then, Jurassic Park III: Alan. Alan. Alan.

cholesterolGamer after you watch it, you'll wish it killed you.
7 days bro. Be patient.
I felt the same way at the end of The Neverending Story...

"The biggest reaction this movie got was people being afraid of an umbrella."
I mean, to be fair, Jack Gallagher is a very terrifying gentleman.
TheBrianJ 😂
Watching Jack Gallagher and Marty Scurll have an umbrella fight would be a far better use of time than watching Rings, it would seem...
Marty Scrull though...
He's just a jerk.
And as a sidenote, CHICKEN WING.

Seriously. What the shit is going on?
Rings was a coincidence, it was supposed to come out in November 2015.
Why the hell is it called "Rings"? Was there a well with more than one hole?
Yeah. Before you die you see the rings. Duh.
No, the original was called Ring, because Sadako was tossed into a well and it was covered up. And the last thing she saw was the ring of light shining through. The video shows the victims the same image. Where does the plural come from? Why would anyone see multiple rings?
Because the video-trading circles tend to be called "rings" in-universe.
How stupid.
Well, they were called that because of the opening image on the video, so it makes sense from that perspective too.
I never like horror movies. But you guys make them sound fun listening to your reactions are priceless.

jonny galeki was the most interesting character in the movie
guys, you should watch the original grunge, ju-on, that´s really good shit
I guarantee we've seen it :)
I've been trying to get around to it. I've seen the American The Grudge and thought it was some dumb BS. Think I'd like it?
Will you make a Cinema Snob episode with The Hole ? (the gay porn parody). You can find it on Xhamster.
+Daddyo Krsna Oh yes. I saw the American version and hated it, then I checked out the original Japanese version and holy shit it scared me so much I could barely sleep for a few days, not many horror movies can do that to me. It was really good, I highly recommend Ju-On over the western remake.
The original grunge? Well, if you insist, I'll brush off the dust of my Alice in Chains, Nirvana, and Soundgarden CDs and give them a listen again. ;)
I assumed this movie would be worthless, but when you described that university class plotline I was actually intrigued. The whole college experiment reminded me of the short RINGS that came out between the first two movies. Same general idea.
When does Trainspotting 2 come out in the states? Well interested in seeing how you find that!
It's a sequel. You briefly see Rachael's name mentioned in a journal. It takes place after the ring, but supposedly completely ignores the ring 2
The Ring v.s. Grudge movie is streaming on Shudder!
And it's total nonsensical garbage! What did you think of it?
The plane sequence could've been fucking chilling, but not in this movie.
The stock action music didn't help
the vcr bit was bugging me so i looked it up, and they stopped making tapes in 2005.
Blank tapes are still available. Or Walmart, Walgreens and CVS stores still have them.
Stoned Gremlin Productions no, but i mean the last big hollywood movie on vhs came out in 2005.
before i get shit on, im saying the movie was stupid with the vcr thing, im agreeing with brad.
I'm looking forward to John Wick 2.
Who isn't
Trinidad Botello Fuck yeah John Wick 2 looks awesome
Electric Boogaloo
Ask Phelan what he thought about fear.com.com. XD
At least he snuck a Weyoun line into Jeffrey Combs's dialogue, which is always a plus.
The Johnny Galecki side story sounds much scarier than the actual ending.
This movie isn't a sequel or a reboot, it's a sea-boot. A soft sea-boot.
Cincinnati actually has a partially-completed subway they built a century ago, but they ran out of money to finish it so the tunnels are just sitting there unused
Oh man, I didn't even notice the lack of stubble on that guy's character!
they should just bring the og japanese movies with subtitles to theatres the usa version are boring and sad
i thought Ringu 2 was alright, not as boring as the America's 2 which was...dumb, also thanks for reminding me of Korean Ring Virus lol
Ringu 0 was pretty good though. Sadako 3D wasn't that good but I rather enjoyed Sadako 3D II.
They have that hair scene in Sadako 3D 1 or 2
The first Ring movie was great (both versions) but The Ring 2 was forgettable.
Oh god, Spiral. Fair enough. I think I'll pick it up next time I see it.
I watched the movie without seeing many of the trailers. For most, I was like "Okay, this is adequate. Not seen any other Ring movies, but it seems fine." Then the ending came and I was like "What? I was driving the other day with the radio.....so I heard "Go see Gods not dead, live!!!" Why!!??!?!?!
The whole "rebirth" thing is from Rasen/Spiral. "Rings" is basically the American "Rasen"
Don't forget lego batman comes out the same day as John wick
I thought it was supposed to come out last October
The rumor was that Rings didn't want to compete with Ouija: Origin of Evil, so it was pushed to February opposite Space Between Us. Anyone that didn't want a YA romance could watch a horror movie.
HalfKocked probably re edited it to be pg-13
Marcus Zyker Considering the other two of these movies were PG-13, it was probably filmed for that rather than just edited.
ajmrowland probably right. Could have sworn it said it was rated R last year
The US remake of The Ring is one of my favorite movies of all time, and I consider it to be THE best remake of all time.
Or just look at this:

You should check out the novel Ringu is based on. It's nothing like the movies, and it awful! I don't mean like regular awful, I mean like really, really awful.
Also, I like the American remake better too, and so do my Japanese parents.
I have briefly seen the novel Ringu and yes, it does at first glance look awful. That is cool that you like the American version better, I think it really deserves more attention and is under rated or under looked at least as a remake.
Opening an.umbrella constitutes a jump scare now? That's fucking pathetic.
The Ring and Ringu are actually based off of a book series by Koji Suzuki. They're apparently way more disturbing than the movies.
Yeah, I can believe that. I never read the books, but I never found the movies that scary.
I can't wait from john wick 2, the only film I will actually see this month anyways (other than spilt anyways).
"Let's bring back the early 2000s" you say?? I can see a bright side to this... no wait they'd probably just do a live action remake and I don't want that. never mind.
Ooo.... Never noticed Brian's jacket before. I like.
P.S. If you want a fucking ridiculous movie, Check out "Father's Day."
It's not a reboot, it's a sequel.
I actually don't mind Johnny Galecki that much. The little amount of Big Bang that I was forced to watch showed me that he's the least annoying part of it. The most annoying was Jim Parsons, by far. I can't stand him.
Hey Sadako was awesome
Why is Sadako's name no longer "Sadako" what's with this "Samora" name? I thought the "Ring" girl was always named Sadako.
That's what her name was in the American versions.
TheSonOfAGunFrom410 It is a different Ring girl.
Dark Water? Mirrors?
Reboot? I thought it was a sequel?
Dunes8 A reboot can be a sequel, but yeah, it doesn't follow up on the same characters.
RLM (among others) have been using the term "soft reboot". It's a sequel but it also will hit similar notes to the original.
The Force Awakens and Jurassic World are two really prime examples.
The Force Awakens has actual characters from the previous movies...not a reboot in any fashion.
And a bit off topic but I just discovered that imdb is shutting down their comment boards. Interesting...
culwin What rly?! Damn
I'm not sure "disappointed" is the right word to describe how I feel about this being terrible, but I'm something that isn't quite OK with it. I'm whelmed? Not overwhelmed, not underwhelmed, just whelmed. Oh well.
It's supposed to be a reboot.
So was there any reason for this movie to exist? I mean The Ring 2 wasn't good, but it was by all means a sequel that built off of the first one. Is this just a copy and past sequel?
They're probably hoping it does well so they can continue the story on, tbh. Just based off of how it apparently ends. I feel like they completely avoided the second movie and acted as if it didn't exist, sort of like they're continuing the Child's Play series but are going to ignore things like Bride of Chucky and Seed of Chucky.
whoever wants brad Jones too review rockateer before the remake say i do my own stunts lol
I have a feeling this movie isn't going to do very well in terms of ratings.
Is it just me, or is there some serious subliminal advertisement going on Brad's side of the car?
Original Shutter is good
I really want Backseat Letty to start writting on sheets of paper and occasionally hold it up in the middle of the view to correspond with the review, whilst still trying to keep out of sight so it just looks like annotations are popping up.
Like:
'/Sigh'
'Still Alive'
'Movie makes me wish I wasn't'
'(╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻'
Ah, the movie in which it tells you not to watch it.
wasnt there a website called fear.com? i used to watch crappy free horror movies there.
Nicholas Polkey I think you are thinking of Fear.net which sadly was bought up by Universal and merged with Chiller
DCT ah yes im sure thats what I was thinking of. That is quite unfortunate.
I thought it was ok, at least as good as the other two.
Brian’s fucking coat yo.
Hair! First you wash it, then you dye.
The Ring was a movie I always wanted to see, and when I did, I wasn't impressed.
And The Ring Two? Please. Please do yourself a favor and watch it. It is TERRIBLE. There is nothing good in that movie. I saw it in the theater and could not hold back the laughter.
th3mdt "do yourself a favor and watch it"? Go home Toby you're drunk
Well, that's a fine howdoyado!
I at least admitted that it is a terrible, terrible movie.
th3mdt I'm sorry I wasn't trying to be mean I was just saying you forgot to say DON'T watch it
No, I WANT them to watch it. They won't enjoy it, but it's an experience, that's for sure. It is by far one of the worst movies I've ever watched.
hell I'm just waiting for the logan movie to come out
F.A.T.S Produstions I'm waiting for Lego Batman as well as Logan and Beauty and the Beast.
John Wick 2 comes out next week.
Anyone who thought this movie would be good was lying to themselves. You can tell how good a films gonna be by the promotion, if it's getting zero publicity it's probably gonna suck.
