Africa Twin- Kane Creek, Moab

- We rode Kane Creek while we were in Moab for The Dirt Circus '19 in March. The trail is mostly jeep trail but has a fun single track section that bypasses a gnarly uphill rock section than has dozens of ledges and step ups.

What an awesome video! Although the most impressive thing I saw was being able to pick a good sized rock up off of the ground while sitting on the seat. :D
The fork lugs were just smacking the outer rocks before the tire started to climb out. That rock happened to be the perfect size to get the tire up and clear the bottom of the forks.
That's a BIG bike for that route... props for having the cardio to manhandle that beast through there.
It's a big bike for most things but we get along well ;)
I'm outta breath just from watching! Well done!
Thanks!
cool video!
I'm sweating by just watching that. What a great video. That place looks amazing, real off road. Thank you for sharing
Moab is incredible, go if you can!
I'm floored. My jaw is on the floor. You didn't just manage to do all that, you did all that without talking through it, without any coaching (self-coaching or otherwise), and without any help. And you did it with a very, VERY heavy bike. Absolutely phenomenal. I have been looking forward to saving up to get the AT (after I get out of debt) and I can see it can indeed do pretty much ANYTHING.
No doubt, some of that you can barely traverse on foot!
A few years ago there may have been some swearing involved but now I truly love this type of terrain on the big bikes.
My hats off to you ,did that on a 650 right after having chemo never so glad to get on the pavement.
Wow! I knew the Africa Twin was a capable bike but I had no idea it was THAT capable! Makes me want one even more now
Now these are my kind of riders. Great video and great riding you guys and gals. Cheers!
The Legendary Africa Twin😈🏍️🏞️♥️👍
Awesome video! What an amazing group of riders, I'm exhausted just watching! That's why I use Camel ADV products...I know they've been tested.
I like to personally test all the things we sell!
Ive ridden that trail.. And that is very impressive to do that on a Africa Twin.. Well done man !!
Awesome!
Balls of steel!!!
Amazing Terrain... thank you for sharing. Damn I wish we had more of this stuff over here :-)
It's a 17hr drive for me to get to Moab. I try to make it happen once a year.
Would love to on my AT but...nope, nope, nope! No shot...I'd be laying underneath it all day long
Not doing it on an ADV bike is the smart choice ;)
Great man! You are strong!
OMG!!!! AMAZING!!!! 👍👍
Brilliant video mate. Big bike, too. Respect
Sorry I missed the Circus this year. I'm there for sure 2020! Good stuff! ✌️
Big adventure bikes in that terrain??? You guys rock!
In the day we would ride those kind of trails on DRZ400’s and thought we were real men! Thanks for proving we weren’t ;-)
This video actually made me nervous, that’s how good it was....thank you.
The ADV bikes aren't the best tool for the job but I like the challenge.
This. Is. Dope
Awesome video man. Good job👏🏻🤙🏻
yes that is what a youtube content should be like
Tossing it around like a mountain bike! Nice place to ride.
That was sweet, beautiful place too. Thanks for not some crappy dubstep to the video! 👍
I feel pretty confident in saying you will never hear dubstep in any of my videos ;)
Dang! Awesome skills.
Thanks man.
I wish I had the time to go to places like this. Definitely on my list of rides to do
It's pretty awesome!
Great stuff lads 👍🏻
I'm impressed, that's a handful on a 650
You are my hero! An AT can go anywhere! I want one!
It's not always the best tool for the job but it's a lot of fun!
Awesome. Thanks. Great stuff.
Thanks!
You are a beast! Super impressive. U must be 7 feet tall to handle it that good
I’m impressed👍
Damn! Thats totally kick ass man!
Bad ass!!! Congrats, been there with my Jeep tho lol
I used to have a built Toyota, wish I had made it to Moab before I got out of wheeling.
You know how I know you were working it? Breathing is AWESOME, nice job staying on point Brother...good ride from the video!
The breathing is more likely because I rolled off the couch after winter hibernation, loaded the bikes in the van and drove 17hrs to Moab. It was the first riding I had done in months!
@@CamelADV 😂😂😂
Wicked video, place looks unreal
Moab is incredible, check it out if you can!
Great job! I can't wait to go back and ride the 500 next time.
Try it on the Monkey while you're at it!
Awesome
I thought my xr650L was a lot to handle on that trail. Props to you guys
I just moved up to the AT AS manual from my old XT650. Incredible skills to get the AT along that trail. On my best day, I’d pass.
Nice to see the Africa twin out doing what it does best.....
ADV-MOTO-Rider 72 That bike wasn’t built for that. Way too technical for a bike that size
It's taken me on many adventures, I'm quite happy with it.
Props for doing this on such a big bike. Exactly why i sold my F800GS though, rather enjoy the trails then spend the day muscling it over things. Beta 390RR-S is my new ride and makes these trails so much easier.
I have a YZ450FX and a KTM 350XC as well. I do enjoy muscling bike bikes through tough terrain, I'm a glutton for punishment.
wish I had that skill on my AT! Now do you reckon the DCT would have helped you few times you stalled it? This looked so gnarly on video and we all know that its always much more in real life! Nice job and thanks for sharing
nice ride that was good job
Thanks!
That is a ton of bike for a trail that size! Nice riding for sure!!
Yup, it's a pig!
Enduro beutiful paisajes
Wow!
Hi, from Spain.
What is your suspension????!!!
And....I would like to see a photo or image of this AT, I like very much the CAMEL ADV logo on the white color.
Is posible???
Thanks for this video🤟🤟🤟🤟
The forks were KYB SSS from a YZ450F and the shock was from TFX. There are bike photos on our Instagram page. instagram.com/p/CQG2XfuHeG0/
@@CamelADV Thanks very much!!
I love to see your videos!!!
🤘🤟🤘🤟
Nice work & video-love this trail, but don’t think I would on that size bike!
A smaller bike is the smarter option!
Not my favourite way to travel by AT but many respect for your skills and bike control. I preffer fast riding long gravel trails. Climbing is out of my condition and technique for this bike.
Would not want to tear up my bike just to say I road that trail.
I have a 650l and this would be sketch on that. The Africa twin is so much bigger! Nice job on keeping that big beast upright. I'm 6'4" and have skills riding. I wouldn't want to try that on a twin. See the bike in person, then you'll know
espectacular ruta y pilotos, meter esos dinosaurios por ahí no está al alcance de cualquiera
Ballzy!!! What kind of exhaust?
@7:58.... that would be me...... Great video!!!!
We all have those moments!
GOD DAMN!!!
This is mental! :O :D
It's a great trail!
DCT would have come in handy.
Half my brain, loved that video, i really envy your adventure. The other half, hate you for treating your Africa Twin like that...😜
Nice work! See you in about 10 days, looking forward to it!
10 days? Where?
@@CamelADV Gunnison, CO
@@briannichols1586 I am doing my best to make it, 20hr drive each way is tough to swing.
For sale: gently used 2016 Africa Twin. Never ridden in the rain.
I feel exhausted watching this video lol
Are you running ultra heavy duty tubes? gnarly ledges, awesome
Yup, ultra heavy tubes, 25psi.
Wow... Impressive. I'm watching this trying to figure out whether I can ride this on my 690... Question: Which direction were you going? From the West (Hurrah Pass side), or from the East (hwy 191 side). I'm trying to figure out if I will be going up or down that hard part at the beginning.
West to East.
Is it really an Africa Twin CRF 1000? What model and year please?
My 1200 GS would never fit. It takes some grit to bottom the suspension like that on a big bike. Awesome video.
I have a friend with an HP2 and one with an 1150GSA that have both squeezed them through. I'm sure they left a bunch of aluminum all over the rocks but they made it!
@@CamelADV I'd like to see that video. There is so much good riding out there. Did UTBDR a few years ago and Onion Creek was my Fav section. At least it was a little wider. Keep the vid's coming !
that's a lot of workout
You are very lucky to live in country where you can access such places on motorbike. Here in Scotland having adv is pointless because you can not have rights to access on motorbike anywhere no forest, no parks , nowhere. Just ordinary tarmac.
That stinks! Scotland looks so beautiful, a place that would have amazing ADV riding. Find a rich dude, with a big piece of highlands land and see if he'll let you ride it!
Kudos to the big adventure bike riders in this video for putting their money where their mouth is by riding these trails. Not a Starbucks in sight.....
It's not the most appropriate choice of bike for the terrain but I like the challenge.
What tires were you using?
What tires were you running and how were they for this riding?
The video is a year old, I have no idea what tires I was running at the time.
Seems like this kinda stuff would be perfect for the DCT transmission. No stalling right?!
One thing about the DCT is that you can't let your clutch slip so you only have the brake to control going slow on these tracks. That means less control so you might fall faster. Honestly stalling isn't as big of a problem compared to the amount of control you lose if you can't use your clutch imo.
The DCT works great for many things and lots of guys really like it offroad. I had a DCT AT originally and I just didn't feel comfortable on it. I have friends that crush it on their DCT bikes, it's impressive to see but not something I can do.
Which tire was used and at what tire pressure?
I have no idea what tire or pressure I was running, that was 18months ago.
So you recommend TFX Suspension over something like Konflict or Ohlins?
I’ve run 5-6 different aftermarket shocks on ADV bikes. Have had tuning done by 5 different shops but the TFX shock and tuning is the best I have ever had. Period.
@@CamelADV What would you recommend for the front? I've been eyeing Race Tech
Is your skid plate still alive? I heard several distinct clunks.
It would be a pretty terrible skid plate if that’s all it took to destroy it ;)
Not sure I could handle that trail on a small bike - impressive feat!
It's just practice ;)
in venice dialect: GHESBORO FIOI!
Ahahhahahah
Not a good choice of bike for a trail this technical.. I did half the trails of Moab on my xr650l and loved it.
I doubt I'll try that on my Africa Twin
RideWyoming I wouldn’t try it walking either! Very little room for error.
Wow! I'd say the only way for you to top this would be to do the same route on a Harley.
Just because you “can” doesn’t mean you should.....
No, we probably shouldn't. Two 1190Rs, one 990, one Africa Twin and an F800gs ... we all had a ton of fun doing it. We all own and ride dirt bikes too but enjoy the challenge of riding the big bikes where they shouldn't really be.
Let's see the jeep wrangler go down that fucking trail lol
Impressive! But made me realize I am such a pedestrian rider. No way would I be able to handle that on my AT.
Not taking an AT on this is the smart thing to do ;)
Great video. Not something I'd do on my AT or have the balls to do.
A total disregard for your personal health and that of the bike is key! All jokes aside, not doing things like this is the smart choice.
Tough going for that big of a bike. Give me a 300 Husky please
We all ride dirt bikes too but like the challenge of taking the ADV bikes over stupid terrain.
0:55, 2:29 and 5:40 not sure a 790 would fit through there.
I just bought a 790R, they aren't as wide as they appear. Like jamming any ADV bike down narrow trails, you find a way.
Isn’t this a little bit ballsy for an adventure bike? Lol. I’ve never owned one of that variety, but just sayin...
V
You would have had a lot more fun with a real dirtbike but at least you got patient friends
Why does someone always have to criticize other people's choice of bike. Ride what you want and let others do the same. I'm sure there are videos of smaller bikes to watch if that's what you like.
@@seanmcquade6719 I'm just jealous.... Moab is a dream destination of mine and your bike is awesome just too much for that style riding
I own a 350xc and a 450FX too but choose to ride my ADV because, well, I can. As for my patient friends, there were 5 others on ADV bikes and 3 on dirt bikes.... no one was complaining about the pace.
All your issues were caused by not committing and keeping the momentum going. It would have been so much easier for you
i love arm chair quarterbacks!!!!These guys are not Chris birch, but I give them credit. I cheated and have ridden it on a trials bike. easy peasy!
@@jjustj I used to race moto, desert and trials. Was thinking what fun it would be on a gas gas trials bikes. Not being a hater but keeping the speed up would have been much better
@@Trasher6 that distinct fear of dropping a 500 pound bike is real, I'm amazed he even made it through half that
If I was riding my 450, committing and carrying momentum would be the tactic of choice. On a 550lb ADV bike, it often leads to rims the shape of stop signs and caved in oil sumps. Since I pay for my own parts, slow and steady is often a better choice.
Hell NO.
That bikes not built for that. Dumb.
