      That’s the way to make a BSH super affectionate! Some don’t like being picked up and aren’t lap cats, but I adopted mine and their person must have spent every moment with them before she went to a nursing home 😢. She gave me a wonderful pair of cuddly teddy cats. 💙

      Lol not mine! They were both very heavy and didn’t want to leave the bed at age 8. I adopted them very obese…their person was a spoiler, but made the sweetest cats before going to a nursing home. I dieted them, and Chessie even shocked me by taking up fast-walking laps through the house. Marched back and forth on her stiff legs, like a little soldier. She became very svelte, but kept her round teddy bear 🧸 face. ❤

    My BSH is now 5 years old. He is an ex Show cat, and before I acquired him, he was confined to a cage. Now, after having him for 4 years, he is an independent, well adjusted house cat. Loves walking outside, ( now that he understands that the sky won't fall on him) and is happy to explore his back yard unsupervised. Best cat ever.! Ps..Absolutely loves to be picked up, to the stage he stands on his back legs and insists on shoulder cuddles.

      Teddy is a perfect name for a British Shorthair! Mine were Tiger and Chessie (I wanted to let them keep their names but changed Jessie to Chessie, for the Cheshire Cat). I adopted them as seniors; they were my best cuddlers ever, like real live teddy bears. Their person had to go to a nursing home. 😢. But she gave me a wonderful gift 💝. Best motors (purr) on the market. Tiger passed at 14, from asthma. Chessie wowed me and lived to a healthy 23. She wasn’t even ill, just had mild dementia & passed in her sleep. I upgraded Chessie’s health plan when I got a new job after Tiger died, so the vet care REALLY is important. I really want another, but heard most BSHs are not cuddlers? Mine did crab when picked up, but when I put their arms around my neck in a secure hug, the motor revved up fast! What’s your experience?

    Our British short hair recently stopped eating, the vet found he had constipation, bacterial infection and low vitamin D. We feed him Royal Canine hard and soft food for British Short hair. The vet gave him antibiotics through a cannula for a week. We are now giving him beaphar Top 10 and malt paste with vitamins on alternate days. Is this sufficient? He is a year old and weighs 4.3 kg. They are big cats (mine were 13-19 lbs.), so I imagine they were more afraid of falling than mg 7 lb. Burmese. One fell off furniture when she got mild dementia, and wiped out bad! We installed a makeshift guardrail system on her favorite bedroom furniture. She did great, after that…lived to be 23. Our other BSH lived only to 14, so Chessie amazed us!

    Hi! I'm getting a 4-month new kitten (BSH mixed with 1/4 persian) tomorrow for half of its price and I'm not sure with what to take note of... Can yall answer my questions:
    • How many times do they take a bath in a month? Grooming?
    • Common issues to be aware of? (my mixed persian kitten died from chf cuz we werent told by the one who gave it for free 😢)
    • do they like to be pet most of the time?
    • do i give them a packet of wet food/day or more? (like splitting the packet for 2-3 meals)
    • they are indoors so should I make sure they exercise all the time?
    • can they stay in a cold room with a/c set at 20°C? (I live in tropical country)
    That's all I can think of right now! All answers would be very helpful ❤❤

      @tazman8697 6 месяцев назад

      Bath one at your own peril unless you own a pair of welders gloves and a full face motorbike helmet.....Seriously, unless your cat has gotten covered in something really nasty, you shouldn't bath it.. It stresses them out and takes all the natural oils out of their fur..
      British Shorthairs are susceptible to HCM, which is a heart disease....and PKD, which affects the kidneys..Your breeder should not sell any kittens that have these hereditary issues.. Talk to your vet for more info..These issues don't usually turn out well.
      Yes, They love attention....until you go to pick them up...They don't like being picked up...However they will sit on you sometimes...Makes you feel spoilt lol....They are real characters... Never a dull moment.
      We give ours one packet of wet Whiskas cat food per day and unlimited Purina One cat biscuits.. You need to keep an eye on their weight....Make sure you get kitten food while they are young.. Don't feed a kitten adult cat food and use good quality food...Yeah! It ain't cheap..
      Yes, You need to exercise them.....playing with them is a good way.. They love to play and zoom around the house like a furry torpedo.. Make sure they have plenty of toys like small rattly balls and small stuffed animals.. Ours has a little fluffy shrimp he carts around everywhere in his mouth like it's his teddy bear. You can get all that from any pet shop or department store.
      20 degrees C is a good temperature...Hope this helps.. I've had Brits for the last thirty years.. My oldest died at 19 years old, so looked after they have quite a long life span.

      That’s the best advice! That and good vet care. Cats hide illness very well, and get crabby or hide when they’re sick. I adopted 2 BSHs at 8 years. One passed away from asthma complications, at 14. I upgraded her sister’s health plan when I got a new job, and she lived to 23! She also had asthma and both had the same heart condition. So, if you can afford it, you’ll have more happy years with good vet care. If not, a warm, loving home, food, shots, alter, treating minor injuries and conditions is a gift. I’ve treated FIV, thyroid, and kidney disease for $20-30 per month and extended lives for years. ❤

    Does anyone know where I can get a British short hair cat ?

    • @sciencenotstigma9534
      @sciencenotstigma9534 Год назад

      Look online for “British breeders near me,” or put your city/state in the search. They are expensive, up to $2,500 in my state, but breeders often rehome a retired breeding cat for half price or even less, and females are only 2-4 years old. Some offer discounts for non-show cats. I still showed mine in Household Pet, and they do great! I had one who made CFA Royalty. British Shorthair rescue organizations have better deals yet. I got my two pedigreed BSHs from the Humane Society for $50. You can call local shelters and get on a breed waiting list, in the US. There are no guarantees but if cost is a factor, do it when you begin your search. Good luck! Sweetest cats ever!

    Our BSH was terrified of going outside as a kitten.....I think he thought the birds were pterodactyls out to get him...Now he's two years old, built like a brick dunny and rules (terrorizes) the neighbourhood.. Beats up anything with fur on it and is a great hunter...They're not all indoor pussy cats....Apart from that he has all the Brit traits.. Loves attention , hates being picked up.. Follows us around the house...

      Their plush coats are lovely, like a teddy bear. We have owned and bred Brits for over 20 years. Wonderful cats, so
      beautiful with their copper colored eyes. Very independent, not lap cats but will come lay by you for attention and head scratches. Have several seniors sharing our house at the moment, great companions.

    1 Oscar
    2 Kitty
    Oscar is a British shorthair who is active, energetic, and somehow a bit fat
    Kitty is a giant cat (maybe a Maine coon) that is very obese and gives oscar a look in the eye when he comes too close.O God how he reacts is always a good laugh
