Good video. If we want to campaign on becoming republic isnt it important that we not only emphise on abolishing the monarchy and replacing or abolishing the House of Lords but also on other issues such as putting in place a constitution which can root out problems in the system such as corruption in order to make the government fairer. Additionally shouldn't we as republicans also campaign for our unfair first past the post system to be reformed proportionally representational system in one form or another.
Perhaps the US should ratify the titles of nobility amendment now that Megan Markle married into the royal family. Megan Markle still is a US citizen and they both live in California, and even though she and Harry Windsor stepped down from their functions, they didn't renounce their titles, so if we did ratify that amendment, Markle would either need to renounce her titles completely (and harry probably would need to as well) or she'd risk losing her citizenship and need to apply for a visa to stay in the USA.
Should Britain become a Federal Republic, would you suggest granting North/South England separate devolved Governments due to each regions specific needs?
As a Non-Brit myself, here's my solution. The UK becomes the Federal Republic of Great Britain, with Northern Ireland seeded back to Ireland. As the new name would suggest, it would be a federal system, similar to what we have in America. Wales and Scotland would become states, while England would be divided into smaller states, so it wouldn't get cocky about being the strongest of them all. It would split into Northumbria, Mercia, East Anglia, Wessex, Dumnonia, Thames, Solent, and Greater London. The country would also be semi-presidential, with a President and a Prime Minister, the new states would also have that system, with Governors and Premiers. The House of Lords would be replaced with a Senate, with Bishops no longer permitted to serve, unless they resign from their positions, as the Church of England would have no influence over the British Isles, in order to ensure the separation of Church and State. The Senate seats would be equal for every state, in contrast to the House of Commons which is divided up based on population. The anthem would be changed from "God Save the King/Queen" to "Rule Britania". As the old anthem would too pro-monarchy, and the new one would represent the country as a whole. What do you think?
One of the major reasons I voted out of the EU was that it wanted England broken into nine regions and the name England vanished from history. No thanks.

If Britain were to become a republic (please god let's hope so), I'm curious how the partisan aspect might come into play. While in Ireland and Portugal the President while in office is an independent, and many, if not most, candidates who stand for president do so as independents, the political parties still nominate and endorse candidates (both current presidents in Ireland and Portugal were backed by the Labour Party and the PSD in the election respectively). Im curious if this would happen in a British republic. Would the Parties back their respective candidates and try to get them elected, or would it be more likley people from civil society unaffiliated with a party?
The most important thing in a republic is the separation of powers and checks and balances to prevent power being too concentrated. We have this in the USA but it still is imperfect, subject to needing constant vigilance. The problem we all have is having to work with flawed human beings. Good luck.
Little know fact but stephen Fry, is very close to prince charles and has prior had him over for festive drinks at his home!! Fry is super biased and wants to be kept within the circle of friends he is accustomed to, not the sort of person you want arguing or debating pro or against royals
But who writes our constitution right now? 325 MPs can change our constitution at their leisure. I would hope that with a new British constitution it would be approved by the people in a referendum and only amendable in that way, like in Ireland, and Switzerland.
Send a mug for the royal family, maybe they'll stick on a mug rack, also car sticker's on their posh car's and advertise for you. Also a dog coat for their corgi's,with republic on. People don't like change and just except the status quo, we need fairness and a decent standard of living.
For some reason Tony Blair always seems to be put forward as a choice of president. But it could quite easily be open to citizens. Maybe even celebrities with a social conscience. Marcus Rashford; MIA?
Instead of a President, why can't the title of Lord Protector return? We have our own history and traditions, I'd prefer to retain the house of Lord's (although treating it similarly to the Senate in the US - elected Lords etc) and the office of Prime Minister.
Blair was very loyal to me and how dare you declare that I don’t work, I work more in a minute than you work in a year. Your very rude and disobedient to me and my crown so shut the pipe.
How about instead of abolishing the monarchy as an institution, just make it elective instead of hereditary? Let House of Commons elect the King/Queen among themselves, basically like they do PM now. For a term of 5 years obviously. It would be the ultimate way to demystify the monarchy and a big 'fuck you' to the hereditary royals who think they're special.
If not President Blair, we'd get for a head of state most likely to be people like Mike Ashley, Phillip Green, and any other British Billionaire you want to pick of the list. As they have the money and power to pay for expensive campaigns and lobby and control the media. Or some puppet of theirs.
When will thee understand that it is not right tempest for an British republic. For the percentage is 78 for an united kingdom 13 % for an British republic.
My problem with the uk becoming a republic is that the president would be somebody from the two biggest partys and would serve the party interests, it would be much more troublesome if the president and prime minister were from diffrent partys stuck in a disagreement. Also an idea I had for the house of lords would be a house based on equall votes across the uk, so we would have a house of commons and a house of equall vote.
Why do people so often assume the elected president would be a politician? It could be anyone willing to do the job who has the support of the majority of the electorate. An artist, philosopher, academic, scientist, sportsperson. I'd vote for someone with the stature of David Attenborough.

Great idea we must abolish the monarchy
A war-criminal president would be very fashionable now.
And how the First Lady would relish her role ...
It´s a toss-up between Tone and Noel Edmonds.
