    In truth Mark, I prefer you to test a knife first before reviewing. I figure that you won't waste our time if you feel that the knife is not worth it. I trust you enough to give us you truthful opinion after trying it out. Cheers my friend.

    Thanks Mark for your introduction to this knife. It is very unique and quite beautiful in an odd sort of way. I like the way you do your videos as I make sure I get the whole story and the rest of the story all at once. It makes for a longer video, but then I do not miss anything. If you break it up in three different parts I could miss something if for some reason I missed a part.

    I don’t mind an unboxing at all Mark. I appreciate your reviews after a good amount of use but this will allow us to see this knife go through your process and I’m interested in seeing that too. Thanks for sharing Mark.

    You do you . I like metal complex and his unboxing first impression. Then later a full review. But I like your style as well . And yes he is purely knives, against your hike/camping. But altogether you have to be happy with what you do . And that's the truth you need to do you . And I for one am glad you do .

    By coincidence, I was looking at these knives, online, just a few hours ago. Interesting-looking knife. Mark, I was a professional knife and outdoor gear reviewer for many years. Please don't let the companies set your agenda. There are always one or two that try, they are not worth dealing with. Please continue to do your reviews your way. I'm a total fiend for gear, and for knives, but I do prefer the way your channel used to be, with you walking in the woods, and making your own gear. Just my two penn'orth. I'm afraid I don't watch many of your videos anymore, because I've got tired of just watching you reviewing gear you've been sent, which is often of little or no interest to me, even though your videos are always well-presented. I know, from experience, folks love to see and read gear reviews, so I dare say I am in a minority, but there are lots of folks reviewing gear on RUclips (even if most are not as thorough as yourself). I have huge respect for you, and the pleasure you have brought so many of us over the years. Thank you👍

      Your comments do mean a lot to me. Not only around the issue of dealing with companies but also about my channel content. I am working toward making more hike, DIY and skill videos; however, they will likely only form a portion of my content. Maybe 2024 will be the year I slow down on reviews and just enjoy getting out and sharing my experiences

      @@MarkYoungBushcraft Thank you Mark, as a Great Freak myself, I know it can be very seductive! I have at least ten times as much outdoor knives, clothing, and equipment as I need (probably a lot more than that actually). You work very hard my friend, and I'm sure your viewers appreciate it 😊👍

    I think an unboxing introduction is helpful for describing a new brand of knife in detail. It would be nice to see all option pictures of the knife if possible and know the price range of knife. Flat grind blades from my experience sit in the center of outdoor knife design. With Scandi grinds better for woodworking and hollow grinds better for food prep.👍

    Knife is also available with a matching firesteel & loop on sheath for only $7 more (the Scandi grind version) - AND it has a 90° spine.

    • @jimf1964
      @jimf1964 9 месяцев назад +1

      Im so torn on the 90deg thing. Like obviously it’s a great idea for convenient ferro rod use, scraping etc…. One less thing to worry about bringing, but man can they ever suck when you’re using the knife as an actual knife. I know I usually have 2 knives on a trip anyway. I guess if I had a bigger utility knife with a sharp spine, then a more carving-ish, working around camp, without. Dunno.

    • @MarkYoungBushcraft
      @MarkYoungBushcraft  9 месяцев назад +1

      I had the choice between the two styles and went with the full flat as I prefer the "slicy" nature of it. This could make a great discussion at the time of the review

    Ohhh Mark, you’ve finally sunk to unboxing videos. 😔. 😀😀😀
    I’ve seen a few blades with similar designs, and wondered what the benefits or drawbacks backs would be. It’s literally upside down from what we’re used to.
    The angled handle does look like it would be much easier on the wrist, assuming that bend is in the right spot. I’ll really be looking forward to your impressions.
    As for the format, as you may have guessed, I consider unboxing videos the biggest waste of time on RUclips……well, one of the biggest……ok, there’s wayyy worse. Maybe a first impression along with the unboxing in one video, then a long term. if you want to split them, maybe that would be a good idea?

      Definitely not my preferred way to do reviews. I wanted to hear from viewers so I can give this feedback to the company. Thanks for commenting Jim

    A most unique knife design, hmm . The handle scale material and colour pattern reminds me of the pattern on the 5 pin bowling balls that we would see in Ontario Canada . A biblical old testament word found in Psalms comes to mind ...Selah ,meaning pause and reflect which I am doing .

  • @The-Armed-Pacifist

    Since the discussion is started, my personal preference is that only products that are purchased by the reviewer are demonstrated.
    Uncommon these days, but still exists with those like Rob Evans from Wales.

    • @jimf1964
      @jimf1964 9 месяцев назад

      I’d like that too, but in reality, unless we’re paying into the channel, where are they going to get the money? It becomes a pay per view. So long as the presenter is honest about it, then you know you can take it as the reviewer may be a little easier on them since they didn’t put any cash into it.

    • @The-Armed-Pacifist
      @The-Armed-Pacifist 9 месяцев назад

      @@jimf1964 Agreed to a certain degree, however in many cases he contacts the manufacturer directly and asks for the product. Their insistence that he split the review into three parts sounds way too much like the Payola racket from decades ago. If you are too young to remember that, look it up.

    I’m not so much interested in unboxing videos, but first impressions are fine, when I buy something I always have my first impression, why shouldn’t you share yours? I agree with the previous comment about knife companies dictating how you review an item, I’d say your way or the highway to such companies. Next they will be telling you what to say, that’s not a review it’s an advertisement! So far I like what I’m seeing. Now I think the full review and your opinions as you’re testing the knife is all that’s needed. Why drag it out?

      @MarkYoungBushcraft  9 месяцев назад

      I appreciate your thoughts. Interesting, they did provide information they wanted me to include But I will be deciding what I want to say. I have also decided, based on viewer feedback, there will only be one more video for this knife. Thanks for commenting

    G'day Mark, it's very beautiful alright. As much as I appreciate that as a knife lover, ..... any tool that doesn't perform well for it's design intent is no good to me.
    I do like the seax concept, (as far as I'm aware "sax" is the correct pronunciation, ... in English anyway),
    though I am left wondering if this one is a bit small for it.
    Crikey, that sheath is a weapon in itself ; )
    I do think there's a case to be made for a multi part showing of particular kit, or more of an instructional series, though personally one of your excellent "standard" reviews for a blade is enough to get a very good grasp of the product.
    Yes I can understand the request for a drawn out, progressive approach, both from a pride and a marketing perspective. However, its a bit like the ol' fly in the soup joke; dont say it out loud, ....... everybody will want one ; )
    Cheers Duke.
    P.S. Ok, I'll bite ....... what are the two empty slots in the box for ?

      LOL...if you check the website the company sells two small accessories. One is a knife stand, the other a wrench for removing handles. Thanks for commenting Duke

  • @andymytys
    @andymytys 9 месяцев назад +2

    I feel that a first impression of a knife should at least have some basic use in it, such as a sharpness test, making a feather stick or two, and batoning in the field, all using natural materials.
    None of this would take too much additional time. I would hate to purchase the knife based on a very cursory review only to be quickly disappointed by it during its first use.
    Longer term use is obviously needed for something like the blade holding its edge over time.
    I’m also not too keen on a manufacturer driving the review process. I’m sure you have many items in queue for a review that don’t try to change the way you like to do things.
