’33 Crore Gods’ is a completely misinterpreted fact due to wrong translation of Vedic Sanskrit by certain foreign 'scholars'. The term ‘trayastrimsati koti’ mentioned in Atharva Veda, Yajur Veda, and Satapatha-brahmana, is rightly translated as 33 Gods. The term koti in Sanskrit has two meaning, one is ‘type’ and the other is Crore. So, somewhere in translation, they missed the basic fact that Sanatana Dharma/Hinduism has 33 Supreme Gods and not 33 Crore Gods. According to Vedas there are 33 Gods/Devas. These Gods are separated in the following pattern : 12 + 11 + 8 + 2. 12 is the number of Adityas, 11 are the number of Rudras, 8 is the number of Vasus, 1 is Prajapati, the Master of Gods, and 1 is the Supreme Ruler who is very powerful.

Ok to be fair, from what I have read and have been told, this idea of an one god incarnated in thousands, is more modern. The more ancient texts snd beliefs frame the gods as a pantheon. For example, The Mahabharata doesn’t mention this, even the triad of Brahma, Shiva and Vishnu is pretty minor there. From my experience, it’s more accurate to say that Hinduism is an umbrella of different faiths, that evolved from a common faith. Some forms see one supreme god, some see multiple gods, etc.
““Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. And you know the way where I am going.” Thomas *said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, how do we know the way?” Jesus *said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.” John 14:1-6

poorly explained, Hinduism has only 1 god, one truth, but has many manifestations, incarnations of that one truth. Most hindus know this thats or else Hinduism today would be massively divided. Hindus are not idol worshippers. we are not focusing on the material aspect but rather using that Murt(idol) to connect to god who is infinite and omni present in that murti. the iron here is that Christians and Muslims unknowngly worship idols and objects for example the holy cross and the Kabaa in islam.

You would expect intelligence to grow with age. Imagine a nation with two leaders of equal power. It's only a matter of time before conflict arises and the nation descends into chaos. That's why every nation has a single leader. If there was more one God, the universe would have come to an end long before humans appeared. Each god would have fought to overcome the other. Like the story of how Ganga was held captive in the locks of shiva by Brahma.
I am sorry but the good lady has no Idea about the higher philosophical concepts of the Vedic Dharma ( aka. HInduism) . I am not saying that she is wrong but she could had told so much more and could had helped audiences to understand Dharma a bit better ....for example she could had added that all deities are not separate individual ' Gods' but manifestations of one entity known as Brahmn .
This is one theory form the Upanishads (Vedanta) but by *no* means the only one... She is right when she says there are multiple Gods, because this is how most common Hindus understand their religion. There are many other philosophical traditions which do not subscribe entirely to the idea of single eternal all-encompassing Brahmn. In fact, this whole categorisation of religion as 'monothiestic' and 'polythiestic' is a western concept and not an Indian one. This are not the categories most Hindus would consider while describing religion.
Arsh Barot Friend I agree and disagree with you . Most HIndus do believe that all the various forms are basically expressions of one Brahmn.( I would here like to apologize to the professor as she did point out that all devas or 'gods' are manifestations of one Brahmn ,later in the episode . I did not know that this portion was edited out when I first wrote the comment. ). However I also agree with you on the point that the monotheistic and polytheistic notions of religion are western ideas . The Vedic Dharma is not a religion to begin with . In modern day language, dharma is equated, quite unfairly with religion. Organized religion demands adherence of the followers to the Book and the Prophet. Anything outside the boundaries of a faith is considered irreligious, if not downright sinful. It is believed that salvation lies only through the body of the Prophet or His words. Dharma, however is different. It is different because it unites. There can never be divisions in dharma. Every interpretation is valid and welcome. No authority is too great to be questioned, too sacred to be touched. Unlimited interpretative freedom through free will is the quintessence of Dharma, for Dharma is as limitless as truth itself. No one can ever be its sole mouthpiece. Our principal error, which we continue to make to this day was in not making the distinction between dharma and organized religion. How can that which is cosmic, and thus, limitless ever be compartmentalized and limited in boundaries? How can something which evolved through interpretation by free-will of millions of people ever be handed down in the form of a limited doctrine ideology or value system? dharma shunned all attempts at strait-jacketing. Western culture, on the other hand, was a universe of many strait-jackets.
I agree with your definitions of Dharma and Religion, and differences thereof. I think we can agree to disagree on the question of whether most Hindus really give importance to the notion of all-encompassing Brahmn. It is because most Hindus I find, are common people so they don't really care about textbook definitions and are happy with traditional definitions which usually involve a personal diety (as in Kul-Devata, or Kul-Devi).
And that's what they are there for - Since you cannot please everyone with one single concept but you can try to mix concepts to please larger group of people, well atleast that's how I understand evolution of Hindu texts. They incorporated the groups with minimalist of change & then mixed their beliefs with core Hindu beliefs thus instead of creating a new belief which must take precedence over others belief one can contest & pick n choose what to believe & what not to believe but that also meant being open to multiple interpretations & greater factionalism or tribalism.
I am the father of this universe, the mother, the support, and the grandsire. I am the object of knowledge, the purifier and the syllable om. I am also the Rk, the Sama, and the Yajur [Vedas]. - Krishna (Bhagavad Geeta)
Hinduism is often misinterpreted by hearsay and the communities manipulating the facts for their benefit. If you really want to gain insight on this spiritual way of life, read vedas and learn about it from a "learned guru".
+Vaibhav C Anil Nope , I don't think so . There are infinite gods in Hinduism , every one has some different set of belief and personal/dynasty gods. And the things that are coming, and will come, let them show unto them. :8 Fear you not, neither be afraid: have not I told thee from that time, and have declared it? you are even my witnesses. Hindus worship only the qualities because direct communication with Him/Her/It is impossible for commoners and also has no realistic usefulness.

Krishna and Ganesh did get married but they don’t have children. Krishna married Rukmini and Ganesh Married Riddhi and Siddhi. Krishna never had kids as he was an avataar of Lord Vishnu and Ganesh was not a human.. He was made of Mud and Later Parvati with her supreme powers breathed life into him . So he was incapable of having children. Hope that clarifies your doubts
Yes. My understanding about Hinduism: 1) Prayer is actually a kind of self hypnotization to strengthen our innerselves. 2) We offer gratification towards the particular quality that made us strong through worships (worship ≠ prayer) 3) In Hinduism, idols are just embodiments of different qualities of one GOD. Hindus worship only the qualities because direct communication with Him/Her/It is impossible for commoners and also has no realistic usefulness.
Let me start with a story: Akbar said to Birbal, we Muslims have Allah, Christians have Christ, Buddhists have Buddha. But you Hindus worship so many God's. Why is it so? Birbal said: God is one but his names are many. Akbar: How is it possible? Birbal summoned a servent who was wearing a “Turban”. He pointed to it and said: “what is that?” Servent said: A turban. Birbal: Untie it, roll it and tie it to your waist. When he had done so, Birbal askes, “what is that?” Servent answered: A Kamarbandh (waist belt). Birbal turning to Akbar: you have seen how the same cloth acquires different names when performing different functions. So also water can be a cloud when in sky, it is rain when it falls to earth, it is river when it flows, and ice when it freezes. Hindus are monotheists. There are not many Gods in Hinduism. There is one God who has many names and forms. I can give you one example, a mother can be mother to her child but she is a wife of your father, she is a daughter of your grandparents, sister of her brother and sister, mother in law of your wife or husband etc.. so all these members of your family will call her in different names e.g. MAA(mother), Didi (elder sister), Masi(Aunty), Bahu(daughter in law) etc. When she loves you or comfort you her form is very calm and loving, when she is angry with you her face shows anger like “Kaali”(goddess), when she gives you money she is worshipped as “Laxmi”(goddess), when you want to worship her to give you knowledge and skills, you worship as “Saraswati”(goddess). We Hindus see God everywhere even in mosque that is why we go to “Dargah”(shrine)
Hindus actually only believe in one God, Brahman, the eternal origin who is the cause and foundation of all existence. The gods of the Hindu faith represent different forms of Brahman.
there are 33 crore devi's and devtass but god is one only shiva. each devi and devtass has different duties like sarasvati is devi of wisdom, knowledge and music and inder is devta of rain cloud

As far as Vedas are concerned, the devas are subservient to Brahman Who is the Parama Puruṣa. All Vedāntins have held that view for centuries. The construction of Hinduism as a "polytheistic religion" is a foreign construct, as are the revisionist attempts to rebut it.

Even those who, endowed with faith are devoted to other gods, they worship Me alone, O Kaunteya, in an indirect manner. Gita 7.21. Whichever manifestation (of the Divine) any devotee desires to worship with faith - that faith I make unshakeable and firm. You are wrong here. Let me explain. Prayer is actually a kind of self hypnotization to strengthen our innerselves. In the video, she's talking about offering gratifications towards the particular quality that made her strong. In fact, in Hinduism, idols are just embodiments of different qualities of one GOD. Hindus worship only the qualities because direct communication with Him/Her/It is impossible and also has no realistic usefulness.
Well from my research snd experience, this is a relatively modern idea. The idea of one god having numerous incarnations was most likley influenced by other faiths such as Zoroastrianism and Jain, and even some philosophy. If you read the ancient Vedic epics, such as the Mahabharata, this idea is not there. And you know what, that’s a good thing. This shows how religions and mythologies change over time based off societal needs. The Vedics prayed to Indra as the king of the gods, seeing him as the thunderous ruler of heaven. But over time Vishnu over throw him, because Indian culture became more focused on ideals such as a balance and duty. So maybe instead of so many people arguing what’s the right way, we just let people make their own view points have their own thoughts.
I pity the abrahamics who blindly believe in their holy books and think of others as evil, but I tell you one thing, just think and analyse what sense does it make when what you do or how preach is decided by a stupid book which crushes dissent. Even I can call your Jesus or Allah as demons or devil's but that would simply be hatred as neither I know regarding them nor I care for them so I have no right to curse them. You should grow and abstain from judging what you don't know.
I don't understand how these western experts find these Indians that don't know how to interpret our beliefs to them. We do have a priesthood. We don't distinguish between celestial beings because we are mere humans. It's like asking a person on the street, how many stars are there is the universe and which one is the best one. Does the best star in the universe actually controls all the other stars. Good one Mr. Morgan Freeman! There is only one avatar that said I AM. No other. The praise of other deities is required because in the spiritual realm, these deities bless us and our lives. To receive these blessings without thanks and praise to those deities is a person who is a thief. For western thought, deities is Angels. Our deities fly just like the Angels. There is also a realm of demons, or Devils. The Devils are just like the devil in the bible. Trying to cause humans to change their lives in the wrong direction.
God is one according to Hinduism, many people fails to understand that. Krishna states that he is the God in Human Form in Bhagavad Gita. He states God is formless. We worship God in any form,it goes to that one Almighty God. As like as other religions Hinduism also speaks of Love,he states that one must love the God while worshipping him,one who can not believe in the formless God,can worship the idol,it reaches to the God,the main thing is Faith and Love. Those millions of god are just metaphorical or just manifestations of the Almighty, that is difficult to understand. It is stated that those forms are because of relationship of humans between God,some worship him as Father, some worship as mother, people must have relationship with God. I am sad so many people fail to understand and stupid people state us as Satanic and other things.
Hinduism is the best way to see, understand and connect to god. The one god takes many forms to so that we as the children of god can connect to him. The planet itself is Hindu with all its gods or religions and those connecting to the almighty The infinitude of god. How deep into the ocean of spirit would you like to go.

She is misleading whole world for this show by misinterpreting Hinduism. Just read 'Skandha Purana'. It clearly described how everything is created. It said there is nothing 1st, gives something which is 'Ishwar' (I personally guess may be time too). This 'Ishwar (and time) created 'Bhagwan'. Male Bhagwan are Shiva, Bishnu, Bhrahma and while female Bhagwan is Devi/Shakti (Power). Bhagwan created (Deva-Indra, Barun, Ganesh, Kumar, Durga, Laxmi and so many others. Hindu religion has the hierarchy system within Deva too). We can technically said (as in Western style) nothing created something, something is (created) 'Ishwar', Ishwar created Bhagwan, Bhagwan created everything Deva, Rakchhesa and this whole universe. Please, don't make confusion in social media that Hinduism has so many gods, however, English translation of Iswar, Bhagwan and Deva/Devata is very very wrong. There is no word for 'Ishwar' in English we can say it 'God' or 'Supreme God' whatever you like. But in Hinduism also there is only one supreme thing that Western society/religion called 'God'. In Hindu religion, time is also something 'the material thing' and the universe is get created, ended and recreated; so does the 'Ishwar' itself too. End of something is beginning of that something again. Regarding worship, people worship anything they like to reach the 'Ishwar'.

+Cook Nin those gods are man hands creation. these God's are not alive or real. The only True God is the one who sits on the Throne in heaven and along side with his son Jesus Christ our saviour who died for all mankind to save us from our sins.
+belle Rdz you know if you actually follow jesus(peace be upon him) he foretold the coming of the last and final final prophet and he said to listen to follow his teachings. Also Jesus is a prophet of god not exactly his son, if you claim Jesus to be son of God because he was born of no father then why isn't Adam God? he was born of neither mother nor father. humans added their own little twist on Christianity after lots of time passed and humans became sinful again that's why he already knew what would happen and predicted the coming of another prophet so that humans would not be doomed for eternity.
+Cook Nin the difference between your Hindu religion and other religions is that yours was completely created by man and why would you follow something man created whilst being influenced by the devil. man doesn't just create a religion worshipping idols unless there's evil intent to go along with it. you must seek knowledge the last hour is drawing near!!
+Natalie Brown They all did bro.. They all called to the Unity of God and to worship Him alone, they all called for good manners, for peace and equality.
*****Natalie Brown Hmm, eventhough that's what she meant... Same answer. The Prophet Muhammed came as a Mercy to mankind. Infact, Prophet Muhammad order us to treat specifically non-muslims in a special good way and not to harass them. All these actions by ISIS, twin tower attacks are bullshit that has nothing to do with Islam. The Prophet Muhammed even said that whoever of you(muslims) harasses or gives a non muslim a hard time, then I(Prophet Muhammed) would be his(the muslim oppressor) enemy on the day of Judgemen. So how on Earth is killing innocent non-muslims an order by Islam if the Prophet himself clearly prohibited just harassing them? Refer to the Quraan, chapter 60, verse 8: "Allah does not forbid you from those who do not fight you because of religion and do not expel you from your homes - from being righteous toward them and acting justly toward them. Indeed, Allah loves those who act justly." You can see it's not just to be kind and good to non muslims, but just as well! Please people, you have listened from the media for ages, listen from US muslims for sometime. And those terrorists who walk around in the name of Islam, they don't resemble an atom of Islam. Should I be blaming christianity for the actions of KKK???? Heck no! Should I blame Judaism for the ugly acts of Israel??? Heck no as well! Coz these religions were give by Allah as well, with the same message, to different Prophets to deliver it to their people. Jesus and Moses, if we muslims don't believe in them, we're not Muslims. The bible and torah, if we muslims don't believe in them, we're not muslims. The only problem right now, is that these books aren't divine anymore, they have been played with and changed by human, human who sins and does mistakes and kills and harms... how come a human changes the words of God! Does it make sense to change the rules and words of your creator who knows what's better for you?? I just want to say, we are from one kin, we should be united rather than divided, we shouldn't let media and actions of extremists who don't resemble a human to divide us. Please, learn from proper first hand sources rather than media, coz media is there to just disturb peace.

Hindus worship the embodiments of different qualities of one GOD
Ok to be fair, from what I have read and have been told, this idea of an one god incarnated in thousands, is more modern. The more ancient texts snd beliefs frame the gods as a pantheon. For example, The Mahabharata doesn’t mention this, even the triad of Brahma, Shiva and Vishnu is pretty minor there. From my experience, it’s more accurate to say that Hinduism is an umbrella of different faiths, that evolved from a common faith. Some forms see one supreme god, some see multiple gods, etc.
Different Hindus have different interpretations of Brahman, and some are even atheists.
““Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also. And you know the way where I am going.” Thomas *said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, how do we know the way?” Jesus *said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.”

poorly explained, Hinduism has only 1 god, one truth, but has many manifestations, incarnations of that one truth. Most hindus know this thats or else Hinduism today would be massively divided. Nope in Islam, muslim does not worship kaabah, instead of it is use as direction to pray that muslim called qiblah..you cannot compare to you idol..even if muslim change the black fabric on kaabah, they step/standing on it..can you step on your idol?

Arsh Barot
Friend I agree and disagree with you .

There's actually one god in Hinduism, it is simply worshipped in many forms.
They are the different path which leads you to the same destination.🙏🏻🕉
@@YOU-ot9ep first correct yourself, we don't have religion. We have Dharma🙏🏻
Yes. My understanding about Hinduism:
1) Prayer is actually a kind of self hypnotization to strengthen our innerselves.
2) We offer gratification towards the particular quality that made us strong through worships (worship ≠ prayer)
3) In Hinduism, idols are just embodiments of different qualities of one GOD. Hindus worship only the qualities because direct communication with Him/Her/It is impossible for commoners and also has no realistic usefulness.
Let me start with a story:
Akbar said to Birbal, we Muslims have Allah, Christians have Christ, Buddhists have Buddha. But you Hindus worship so many God's. Why is it so?
Birbal said: God is one but his names are many.
Akbar: How is it possible?
Birbal summoned a servent who was wearing a “Turban”. He pointed to it and said: “what is that?”
Servent said: A turban.
Birbal: Untie it, roll it and tie it to your waist.
When he had done so, Birbal askes, “what is that?”
Servent answered: A Kamarbandh (waist belt).
Please read the Noble Quran and learn about the real God,

Bro you okay 😻😂
As far as my limited knowledge, I think Brahma is the chief Deity for hindus as he is the creator of universe according to scripture.
Sir 33 koti means 33 types of dieties these is a very big misconception around it plz correct yourself
Hindus actually only believe in one God, Brahman, the eternal origin who is the cause and foundation of all existence. The gods of the Hindu faith represent different forms of Brahman.
Jesus Christ love you hindu believe in Jesus Christ save you time is now
there are 33 crore devi's and devtass but god is one only shiva. each devi and devtass has different duties like sarasvati is devi of wisdom, knowledge and music and inder is devta of rain cloud
Hinduism is the most deeply complex dharma and also the most twisted and misinterpreted by the foreign historians and scholars. Also layman indian public not knowing the actual meaning and interpretation of the knowledge and philosophies in the vedaas and upnishads.
I strongly recommend everyone reading this comment to study and understand the vedas and upanishads. Start with vedanta if you want to know the core or the core knowledge.
Hindu reg-veda says God invisible as OauM, visible as eternal complete perfect Holy good men ( parama athma = pure soul), Hindu-arya main principal.
As far as Vedas are concerned, the devas are subservient to Brahman Who is the Parama Puruṣa. All Vedāntins have held that view for centuries. The construction of Hinduism as a "polytheistic religion" is a foreign construct, as are the revisionist attempts to rebut it.
Oh I'm so glad I know the true living God!!! Lord have mercy on those who do not know you Jesus Christ!
Shane, you are SOOOOOO right!!! I feel terrible for them! In Christianity there is only ONE God and only ONE God needed when he's as powerful as He says He is ....and MY GOD is ALLLLLLL that He says He is!! If in your religion, your God needs additional 'gods' to help THEN, THAT should be a clue right there that smthng ain't right!!! MY God needs noooo help from any other so-called 'god' bcuz HE is God!!!!!!!!
I have a curious question that I’m interested for Hindu followers to answer, who do you worship first? Does a Hindu follower need to worship Ganesh before shiva? I think I remember in my religion class that there are three schools of thought on Hinduism (or maybe I’m thinking about islam), so if that’s so I might get a bunch of answers 😅, but curious though if that is important in Hindu religion?
TheResonating no, unless there is a festival, otherwise you can just pray to as much as you like in any order. Although some households, may use a specific order
There can be only one CEO, one captain, one general, one chief. One God...
I’m not a hater but u couldn’t pay me or intoxicate me enough to convert to Hindu even if the question would be to marry the most beautiful Hindu girl because how can you create something then call it god and have many gods
We have our Krishna and this is what our blessed Lord has said - and it actually includes all you Christians, Jews and Muslims :-)
Gita 4.11. Whosoever takes refuge in Me in any manner whatsoever, in the same manner do I favour them; beings experience Me alone in different ways, O Arjuna.
Gita 9.29. I am the same to all beings; to Me there is none hateful or dear; but those who worship Me with devotion abide in Me and I in them.
Gita 9.23. Even those who, endowed with faith are devoted to other gods, they worship Me alone, O Kaunteya, in an indirect manner.
Gita 7.21. Whichever manifestation (of the Divine) any devotee desires to worship with faith - that faith I make unshakeable and firm.
Now this is how a TRUE Universal Supreme Being speaks - with absolute love and compassion for ALL sentient beings.
Some Hindus deny that they believe in many gods but when one reads their books, it's clear that they believe in millions of gods.
@@dylantennant6594hinsuim is older than jainism and zoroastrianism without Hinduism there wouldn't be Sikhism, Jainism, or buddhism

The planet itself is Hindu with all its gods or religions and those connecting to the almighty
The infinitude of god. How deep into the ocean of spirit would you like to go.

Here are few question about Hindu believe and god
1. Ram is a god but ram could not know who steal her wife Sita ? It is hanuman who went out and found Sita was kidnaped by ravana?
2. Ram is god but he worshipped another god .
3.Brahman priest who worship Ram in a temple could not eat meat while worshiping But Ram can kill deer and eat her meat .
4.Hanuman also god but he does not know how a Sanjibini root looks like so he carried entire mountain in his solder ..
5.Shiva is also a god but he could not recognize his son Ganesha and behaded Ganesha just because Ganesha did not allow shiva to meet his wife Parvati.
6.Ganesha is also a god but who could not protect himself for being beheaded by his father shiva..
I think now you might have confused about Hindu gods and their helplessness ..so basically Hinduism is a brahamanic system where upper cast brahman have created stories to rule the lowercast and enjoy the good life ..
@Ryan Roshan to your logic how come god fears ? If someone fears then how come he is god ? Dear you are confusing more . I just asked couple of rational question ,instead of giving strait forward answer to it , you are confusing more . If Ganesha and Rama are temporary then why people worshipping temporary things ?
@Ryan Roshan sorry you confused me more now . I had simple questions and I was expecting simple answers .
@Ryan Roshan That shows your inferiority complex ... that’s why you think my simple questions are propaganda .my curiosity about a religion and why people follow that lead me to research and came up with those questions . I can rationally say if you have a complex solution or a complex answer to a simple problem or a simple question that means something wrong in the solution or in the answer . I would say Please do some more research .
@Ryan Roshan my all question is on top of these discussions, please answer them one by one in precise manner, looks like you still feel threatened of facts . I have not utter a single word against any of your deities . Read my conclusion . Am I wrong when I say there is cast system in Hinduism ? And Brahmins enjoy all the benefits being on top of these cast system . If you think any of my observation about Hinduism is wrong on my above questions ( regarding human nature of deities) I would be glad if you can correct me .
Hindus believe that each person is intrinsically divine and the purpose of life is to seek and realise the divinity within all of us. The Hindu belief is totally non-exclusive and accepts all other faiths and religious paths.

Yup. For a myriad of reasons.
Here's a simple thing, especially to all the hindus in this comment section. Whether you believe in one god or 33 kotis or 33 million manifestations, Its yours path to ultimate (moksha). And thats exactly the beauty of Hinduism who does not give people one direction, one way to reach enlightment and connect to god. You can do bhakti, be a Yogi, Aghori, Vedanti, Kapalik, Meditation, daan. Basically finding your way of seeking. You may worship Maa Kali, Maa jagdamba, Bhagwan Shiv, Bhagwan Vishnu whosoever you want. Our religion is neither governed by one book nor by one certain way to worship. Embrace your Religion. Stop giving explanations. Let people see the imminent beauty of it. And we Hindus are idol worshippers but again some are not. Idol worshipping is not just worshipping "statue". We conscencrate the energy into that "thing" and it became a living source of energy.

+belle Rdz Man Abrahmic religion is so cancer. I feel bad for those who follow a false religion 😂😂
