I did stage 1 and a front mount got a tune and the car felt slower because all the tubing added turbo lag. So I went stage 2 plus fuel upgrades and I really like the car now. Stage 1 or 2 are both fun but I suggest staying top mounted intercooler. Stock cars put like 240hp to the wheels so it's hard to say you're making 60 more simply from an intake and cat back. But hp is variable because the mustang dyno numbers are calculated with inflation compared to other dynos.
Mustang dynos are pretty accurate real world numbers in my opinion but maybe I’m just bias. Dynojets on the other hand are the ones with inflated numbers. I think he’s probably making an addition 35-40whp.
That is probably a more accurate number. However, the power increase isn't just from the catback and intake. The increase comes from the tune and the supporting mods (intake and exhaust) allow the car to breath better and allow the tuner to achieve more accurate power and gains. Would be interesting to take it to the dyno to get actual numbers one day.
@@Autofreakgarage same but dyno time is just so expensive. I think if you always do pulls on the same patch of road that an etune is equal in quality and much cheaper.
Joshua Delahoussaye and that was my mindset. Did my logging on the same road and same conditions each time. I’m not seeking horsepower so the number is just a number to me. As long as it feels smooth and healthy, that’s all that matters.
Great video! I think I'm in the same boat as you. I've owned a 2014 WRX and I've messed with it a lot, and lost a lot sleep over some mods. Now I have a 2019 STI, and besides a catback exhaust, everything is stock, and seems perfect out of the box. More power than any previous car I've had, but it is so tempting to mod it more, but knowing where that has lead to in the past, I think I'm just going to keep it how it is.
Man. Told myself I wasnt going to mod my 20STI other than the current exhaust, gs filter and post maf. You know, no tune needed. Watching this Im thinking maybe stage 1+? Damnit! Honestly though, something extremely reliable tune wise, and a little more pep sound like a go lol
i ran the map stage 1 for while before i got electonic boost controller/protune. tbh the OTS map stage 1 felt a little faster than my pro tune, even though i make boost faster with electronic boost control(eletronic boost maxxed at 19.9 / MAP performance stock boost controller over 21-22 with perrin intercooler/catback/intake i put 296/320whp on protune. so on map stage 1 wiith intake/catback you're right around id guess you'd be close to 300 wheel with catback/intake .
Thanks for the vid, I just ordered the Cobb stage 1+ SF kit for my 2020 sti. Can't wait!! Was it a noticeable difference in power going from the cobb ots tune to the brentuning?
Hey man around the 5:30 mark you were talking about if something happens to the engine these mods are easy to take off and return to stock. If you were to take it to dealership for engine problem after taking the mods off, they would still cover you under warranty? There is no way of them knowing you had the Stage 1+ tune? This is the biggest crossroad I’m at now for my 2020 STI I want to go stage 1+ just don’t want to risk something happening and not being covered under warranty.
They typically wouldn’t know anything was on the car. The only way they can tell was when the car was reflashed or reset in the history. But this can happen when the battery dies or you have to replace. So they can’t tell you anything other then assumption the car was flashed.
@@Autofreakgarage Appreciate the response man. I think I’m going to go ahead and pretty much do the same set up you have based on your positive review.
Thank u for being honest Alota people out here lying on power figures
My 19 was used and is currently on the stage1+ Cobb OTS tune. Runs nice and is pretty quick. Way quicker than the new ‘20 that I test drove.

awesome vid and plenty of speed you've got there! would be cool to see what you decide in the future if you go stage 2 ;)
We shall see! I was ready to go stage 2 on my wrx (had all the parts waiting to go on), but never went through with it.
Thanks for the vid!
What would be needed to make 300whp on a 2018 Sti reliably. it's my daily so I need it reliable as I can get it
Bren stage 1+ tune with the Cobb sf redline intake.
Have a Stock 16 STI. Can you share some reliability mods you u have done for stage 1.
