    Thanks for your interesting videos and feedback! This summarizes my experience with my early '16 S 90D very well since the equipment is quite the same. Only difference being the supercharging speed which was essential for me since I roadtrip a lot. I get more degradation, but the car is 331k kms now (about 206k miles). And until now my MCU1 has worked well so I stay with it until further notice.

    I was looking at a 2014 85 with AP1, but I keep having doubts with upkeep and reliability. I was wanting to hold out for the 3 or Y to drop in used prices, but I'm just ready to ditch my Volt lol. Thanks for the detailed ownership videos. If my Volt keeps up the crap, I might just pull the trigger on the S and be done with it.

      I certainly have no regrets. It's always concerning moving to a new company that doesn't have a long history to reference for peace of mind in purchasing their vehicle. And buying an older used vehicle you never know what the history of that specific vehicle is and if there's something to be concerned about. So there are certainly risks there but I'm happy with my purchase. Thanks for watching and the feedback!

    Those Turanza Quiettrack are the single worst tire. Even in an ICE car as a daily commuter, my Lexus ES350, they lasted 30k miles. That’s it. The Costco guys said they’ve replaced all the quiettracks they’ve sold or are in the process of replacing them as they all come in worn down with less than half the miles on the warranty which is 80k miles like you said. They’re straight up trash.

      Wow I wasn't sure if my experience was an anomaly.

      @@ElectricTechAdventures Unfortunately everyone is facing these same issues. Can I ask how your CrossClimate's have been? I live in the Salt Lake Valley as well and am looking at a 2016 Model S (which your videos have been SO helpful to make that decision), and wanted to know if those are great for highway driving as well as our slick winter roads.

      I love my CrossClimate2 tires! I just had them rotated a month ago and they were measuring between 6 and 7/32nds with 14,405 miles on them. They started with 10/32nds of tread, so they're about half way worn out. I always replace my tires at either 3 or 4/32nds because the tire mileage warranty requires that. It looks like I'll probably get about 30k miles of range out of them. Perhaps slightly less, but still more miles than any prior tire I've run on my Model S. 24k miles was my prior high with Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 tires. Regarding handling they're very good. I don't need to drive in snow very often, but when I've had to, or when I went out driving in the snow just to test out the tires they performed great. I know someone else here in Utah who runs the CrossClimate2 tires as his winter tires, then he switches to summer tires. I run them year round as I've never had the need for dedicated snow tires. I'm glad to hear my videos have been helpful to you!

    Our 2013 Model S has been $10k in repairs and maintenance. 10 years and we save $1k per year with free supercharging. It’s a wash.

      There are certainly a lot of parameters and ways to consider what vehicle to drive from a costs perspective as well as safety just pure enjoyment. If my car ends up being "a wash" (if being compared to any other car I could have driven instead) in the end I'll be totally happy about that because I love driving it.

    on your MCU2 update, I am guessing that you chose not to upgrade the radio? That would have been another 500 expense.

    • @ElectricTechAdventures
      @ElectricTechAdventures  Год назад +1

      That is correct we opted out of the FM radio component. We pretty much only ever used it if we drove by holiday lights that had an FM radio broadcasting holiday music that matched the lights.

    Would you ever consider getting a model Y now that Tesla is possibly lowering prices considering that you have 4 children?… Edit: never mind I just saw that you mention the cybertruck. 😅

    • @ElectricTechAdventures
      @ElectricTechAdventures  Год назад +2

      Haha yep. I'd be happy to use a Model Y, but the Cybertruck will be more important to have since we'll also be able to tow our RV with it. It'll become our primary family hauler, but we'll all still fit in our Model S for quite some time with the rear facing seats. The Model S will be our around town car mostly once we have our Cybertruck. Once our youngest no longer fits in the back (perhaps in 12 or so years?) we'll no longer all be able to fit in our Model S, but we'll all still fit in our Cybertruck just fine. At this point in time we anticipate keeping our Model S and the Cybertruck for the foreseeable future. They'll both continue to get outdated, but as long as they work for us that's ok. We don't need the latest technology.

    • @ElectricTechAdventures
      @ElectricTechAdventures  10 месяцев назад

      Haha...no. but there is no need to because we only have four kids and our Model S seats seven. The Cybertruck on the other hand is a problem for us. I am hoping they offer a 6th seat option in the future.

    What is your total cost out-of-pocket expense? $$$$

    • @ElectricTechAdventures
      @ElectricTechAdventures  11 месяцев назад +1

      Over the 69,861 miles that we've put on our Tesla we've spent $2,024 on tires and the MCU replacement was $1,877. Those are the two largest expenses. Everything else comes to $303 for cabin air filters, windshield wipers, new 12 volt battery all of which I replace myself. All combined I've spent a total of $4,204 on maintenance for my car. That does not include insurance since that varies a lot for different people. I've never spent any money on charging at home or on road trips. I have paid for and broken even solar panels at home that completely covers all our local Tesla charging needs plus house electrical consumption, and we have free supercharging on road trips. The single largest maintenance cost by far is the tires, which actually are cheaper than I originally anticipated due to the mileage warranty from tire manufacturers. I typically get a lot fewer miles on my tires than the mileage warranty so we get a rebate towards the next set of tires every time we get a new set of tires. The details of those rebates are all documented in my annual ownership costs videos of which this video is one of.

      Thanks for the complement and awesome offer! I love my S85D and plan to continue using it for many more years. Hopefully by the time I have to retire it I'll have a large enough garage I can keep it as my personal museum piece. It'll be a worn out, battle scarred vehicle with some many memories made in it! Are you a member of the Facebook Utah Tesla Owners group? I've been to some of their events here in Utah.
