    I go back and forth between FGO and Arknights as my favourite gacha game. The Arknights story is so grounded and real, the characters feel like people you might meet in real life, but F/GO's is just so grandiose and spectacular, the personalities are larger than life, literally (looking at you Kiara), the variety of topics and genres it covers is incredible, it just has something for everyone. I know a lot of people hate F/GO. The gameplay is dated, the gacha is cruel, the QoL is several steps behind the modern day standard, but no matter what I don't think I'll ever let it go. There's something special about this game and it either hooks you until the end, or it doesn't. You either die a gorilla, or live long enough to see yourself become a looper.

      If you pay attention to arknight's rate, their gacha is kind of worse if you have played more than a year. In the end you get way less rate up servants than FGO and the dupes accumulate more and more

    • @RexellentRed
      @RexellentRed 3 года назад +13

      @@mister_raindr0p uhhh...no? Arknights' gacha is objectively better in every way: better base rate (2% vs 1%) , a guaranteed 5/6* in the first 10 pull, a 50% or sometimes even guaranteed chance of the character being the rate up character, a pity system that isn't complete trash and you can buy 5* and 6* characters from the shop with certificates you get from getting dupes of 4*'s. Maybe your personal experience has been different but there's no getting around the fact that Arknights has a much better system than FGO. The one positive thing I will say about FGO is that they design all of their servants so well that often it doesn't matter who you have, you will be able to clear content without much trouble. Oh and also FGO's welfare servants are in a class of their own. No other game I've played has given us just absolutely game breaking units like Kintoki Rider or Chloe.

    • @mister_raindr0p
      @mister_raindr0p 3 года назад +1

      @@RexellentRed take into account that the actual rate up of arknights is .5% or .75% in their usual banners, then that all the pools are shared except limited. As you have more characters the easier is to get a dupe, that are useless unless you go for the 5th or 6th, and in the end you have 50% more ssrs at most, even with pity certificate buying and recruitment

    • @RexellentRed
      @RexellentRed 3 года назад +4

      @@mister_raindr0p where are you getting the 0.5% and 0.75% numbers from? the rate for 6*'s is 2% across the board. are you talking about when there's two 6* characters on a banner? and yeah all pools are shared but that's why you have the 50% chance as a safeguard. FGO doesn't have that. it splits the servants into general pool and story locked pool, but even in the general pool spooks exist, there's no 50% chance of getting the rate up character like in arknights. also i think you're way underestimating how impactful having 50% more SSR's is. if I had 50% more SSR's in fgo I'd have around 45 instead of the 30 i do now, that's a HUGE power spike for any account.

    I have a year playing FGO, i remember how i need to think as a noob to beat Jeanne Alter, how to finish two events with low levels servants, the joy of getting my first 5* and the pain of not getting something. Even when you think about optimize your farming experience, you should try to experiment a little with weird conbinations, or challenge yourself doing the game more difficult like beat a boss with a weird setup or praying in a solo run that RNG give you a change.
    My recomendation to the new player is enjoy the game as you can. If you get a servant you don't want try to use it and maybe you like it after that. Finally if you reach a certain point in the story that is very hard to advance try to look at the web, all of the veterans reach that part and we use many differents ways to pass it. So i hope you like the game if you wanna try it.

    I feel like a battered housewife that can't let go because there are kids and mortgage. The inability to autofarm or skip animations especially hurts if you play other mobage and can truly feel the lack.
    Delightworks has been too spoiled by the raging torrent of whalebucks to reflect on significant game improvements. The failure of their other mobages is proof of that, scratching their heads about why their playbook results in failure with less popular franchises.

      not really? autofarm doesn't work in fgo because watching autofacecarding isn't actually faster than just making a decent farming comp (and fgo is an easy enough game that you can pretty much run the same stuff for 75% of the game). I know the lack of autofarm is common criticism from people who play auto gameplay games but other than lotto and being behind in events, you don't really need to do that much in a day.
      DW though is definitely super slow at making changes to the game, and I definitely think that spending resources on another gacha game + doing arcade is a waste of time

      @@yuuschzhie8822 Yeah autofarm is needed for events, they should either implement that or let you skip np when doing the ultra slow farming, or at least give faster speed while playing, I remember when I still used to play the game, farming was a nightmare since most of my servants were arts (and most of those were not farm friendly since they rely on art spam, I falied to get Summer mordred and before quitting, Jeanne archer decided to ignore me, and before that skadi... nvm)
      But the true problem of the game is the fucking gacha, the gameplay is stale and repetitive, and having the same servant lineup for over a year is not a fun experience, specially if you make the most out of your SQ and still get shit on constantly like I did

    • @Silver-Arrow

    I have tried FGO, and I have gotten out of it. My journey starts in 2017 (year 1 of EN server) when I'm watching my friend plays it. From that moment I became addicted to its story, gameplay loop, characters, and the gacha (yes, you read that right, this game is my first gacha game). No other games can top FGO from that moment on. What I really like doing then is theorycrafting with the numbers to make the biggest damage possible and to make farming easier.
    Time flies and many things have changed. I ended my journey in late 2020 for various reasons, some of them being I have all my target servants, I became bored with the grind, I played multiple gacha games (Arknights & Genshin), and I got a full-time job so I don't have enough time to consistently play FGO. I've been playing for about a month, and while the grind is even more blatant than in Arknights, my AK account is basically endgame so not a fair comparison. The difficulty is, yeah, not as painful as expected, but maybe AK beat out any complaints about how hard something is lol
    FGO's emphasis on lore and the subtle character details are pretty amazing. I'm not that knowledgeable in mythology so this game definitely inspires me to research characters and figure out why their quirks are the way they are. It's pretty amazing.

It does help that I do like the normal gameplay so even when we get those multiple events in a row like we have recently I've still be clearing them out using Servants that I like to field. I am looking forward to the next chapter next month.
    The main thing that I would complain about is they NEED to add more to the pity system of the game like needing less USOs and other ways to receive them. The Summons going up to eleven with Anni in a few months will be nicve but nowhere near what's needed to make it more forgiving.

    I played for 3 and a half years. This review is spot on. Story and characters are amazing. Some of the best in anime games. Battle system is fun at first but once you can clear everything it gets very slow. Farming is so boring and it's easy to burn out. That's what happened to me. At the end of last year between lotto and leveling up servants I burn myself out and haven't come back. I've burned myself out before but this time I took a break and haven't been back since.
    In 3 years of playing it was well worth it. The story was amazing and before my account was as strong as it is now, trying to figure out how to 3 turn clear was amazing. Honestly what probably killed most of the game for me was having Skadi and Lancelot making me not needing to use my brain. Drops on materials for ascensions are painfully bad almost as bad as the gotcha. Gotcha if your not spending money realisticly you can save for 2 5 stars that you want a year. Sometimes the f2p currency isn't even enough for 1 5 star per year for very unlucky souls.

I honestly do not get how people think Fate is complicated, it will be complicated if you think it is, it truly isn't, just stick to parts of the lore you like then slowly go from there, no one is forcing you to explain the how Tsukihime can exist when Extra CCC with its super computer A.I. shit is there. And just read Fate. ALL OF IT.

    • @mister_raindr0p

      Arknights has a worse gacha if you do the numbers, specially if you are a "veteran"

    • @zeeadmirale1881
      @zeeadmirale1881 3 года назад +3

      @@mister_raindr0p what numbers? 1% chanse for SSR is worse than 2% for 6* (or a 3%/6% in Granblue), no adequate pity system, and very rare free quartz (and in general, DW is fucking misers). And very, very different balance from Granblue and Arknights. 4* in FGO is maybe not shit (well, some of them are, but in general), but they overall less useful than 5* in AK. And in Granblue there is a fuckton of free rolls, literally hundreds, and every dupe give you useful resource, which you can trade for any character you want or for resources/weapons you need. And weapon dupes itself give you valuable resources, or even can be more desirable than a character itself. And powercreep in Granblue is a thing, yes, but... Characters in Granblue don't mean shit if you don't have right grid. And if you have a good grid, yes, when you have some bullshit characters then you can do really crazy shit. But here the catch. With amount of free rolls, you will have a fuckton of characters in span of even a year, and if you will be lucky, then it will be some of the strongest characters in the game. And when you have no grid then even something like Grand units will perform better than most, but not too great.
      Also, recruitment sistem is much more useful than friend points summon.
      As a game, FGO is maybe not complete shit... But it will be forever held back by DW greed for money.

      @@zeeadmirale1881 You didnt read anything, i said of getting an actual character and not a copy

    • @zeeadmirale1881
      @zeeadmirale1881 3 года назад

      @@mister_raindr0p ah, so you not even played the game yourself. Understandable.
      Well, yes, SR in Granblue is useless, but it not even a problem. Like, they clearly never meant to be used, because you will have like a 20 SSR of every element after a year or two with just F2P (and logging in just when you feel like or on big events), and just enough to make a okay-ish party in just couple of months. And the only one who clearly didn't read is you, because as I already told ya, dupes never the problem in Granblue, and about "characters you never will ever considered using", it's a thing in every gacha. And FGO especially, because in that game you will need anything except standard farm-setup only for some bosses or challenge quests.
      And here another reason why FGO have much more severe case of "bucnh of ussles units". In FGO every unit takes an enormous amount of grind to get them to their peak. In Granblue they require, like, a one hour of auto-farming (except for 5*, ofc, they needed a little bit more). The grid - this is foundation for your power, not the characters, and party can be relatively easily changeed if you get a new unit, without tedious grindfest for exp, QP, and skill materials. Of course, there some exceptions, but they exactly it - exceptions. Yes, there characters that require a specific grid, but it not always the case.
      Plus, Granblue is much slower and longer game. Before a 100 level it just a tutorial, lol. You will build your grids for ages, so sooner or later you will get the units you want.
      I played FGO for 5 years, and I played Granblue for 3 years. There many strong points in FGO, but gacha element is clearly not.
      If you think differently and have a blast with it - good, I happy for ya. I not telling you not to like it or not to like FGO in general. But you can like something and also acknowledge it flaws. Granblue is not ideal either, and I get it and acknowledge it. Yeah, it's pretty hard to get some really good characters, and the amount of grind in this game is just humongous. But there also spark system, the moon system, and the grind itself is a kinda the point of this type of games.
      Maybe I was not really clear, but I was an little bit ironic, when I said what no one should play FGO. But hey, not being clear is the point of irony. I just a little salty because I spend a some money on it, and here I am - lost every single little bit of interest in this game.

    As someone who played from almost the beginning of the NA server until the summer event that had Archer Jeanne (over 1k SQ without a single 5* in that year, top KEK) , I can say this, if you really love good stories, play the game, just don't expect anything from the gacha, unlike the other commenters who just got lucky and got good shit and are in a honey moon with the game and its bullshit, if you spend money, ONLY spend it on the guarantee SSR banners.
    if you do anything else prepare to feel like you are throwing your money into the drain, but if you are the type of person who skips the story and only want characters, dont play it, you will only waste all your money and end up quitting because the gameplay is stale and you are bound to fail in the gacha, and since you ignore the story, you most likely wont get that hooked into the game.

      Fuyuki is honestly decent, since it works as an introduction to everything.
      Orleans is messy but not Bad.
      Septem is kinda boring and unremarkable.
      Okeanos is carried by the character interactions, Asterios, Orion, Drake and even Blackbeard showing great Moments.
      London certainly has some issues but it also has some good character moments.
      America again carried by the characters, specially Nightingale.

    My opinion is about the same. The story picks up later, fun characters, pretty dated gameplay, unforgiving gacha, and some really great music to summarize. Would I recommend it? I would say it depends on who is interested. As a gacha, FGO is definitely one of the harsher ones in the gacha community. Overall, I don't think most people would recommend it if they have not tackled other gachas. It also has a lot of faults being the older gachas. I would recommend having a foundation in gacha before considering going willy nilly in it. I don't discourage playing it, but it's a tall hurdle to like and stay with the game. Just be smart about it. You don't want to put the effort into something you dislike. If you can bite the bullet, FGO is a fun game to explore.

    I started FGO since day 1 and it has got to be one of those few games that I wanted to keep loving but couldn't.
    The story, characters, rich lore, and dialogue were all written spectacularly and it's an aspect that still tempts me to return after quitting for a year and a half.
    But the incredibly unforgiving gacha and stale gameplay (repetitive, grindy with no autoplay for said grind and repetition) is the reason why I quit it for Arknights.
    It was fine at first, but over the years it began taking it's toll on me, to the point where it felt more like a job whenever an event or re-run rolled around.
    Even its good story couldn't save me from the monotony.
    As for the gacha, I think it speaks for it self. less than 1% for a 5 star with no pity-- you could spend a whole week's salary and still get nothing, which
    makes it so damn hard not to pay out the ass when the game has characters like Ereshkigal and Jeanne D'arc archer. I may have been
    F2P, but I fully understand the whales out there, lt's like I have a serious case of Stockholm syndrome whenever I think about this game.
    God, now that I'm thinking about it, I want to go back and it's scaring me.
    10/10 don't play this fucking game.

    Having read some of the comments, I'll try my best to give a perfectly honest answer despite the inclination to repeat what many before me have said (which I regularly do so irl when asked). And that is that it's somewhat tricky to recommend FGO to someone who isn't already invested in Fate as a whole. I'd much rather first convince them to at the very least watch Zero and UBW - not only to get a general idea of what the universe entails, but perhaps more importantly, potentially develop a strong likeness for and deep connection to one or more of its characters. This way you'll have a foundation by which to approach FGO, a compelling reason to persevere even should its aforementioned "hell" become too much to handle, and not just because you were curious and/or bored and wanted to try a new mobile game, because believe me, you won't stick around for long if the latter is the case - ESPECIALLY this many years into the game's life where you really wouldn't have the luxury of taking up story content at a leisurely pace but instead be pressed to catch up merely in order to participate in new events besides having already (and painfully) missed out on so many and their associated limited rewards (i.e. welfares and CEs).
    I've been playing FGO NA for over two years now and I can confidently say without a doubt that the #1 reason I'm still in this hell today is because I love its story and characters as much as I do. I know I'm not doing a very good job advocating for the game, but all I'm trying to get across is that jumping into it this late/at such an inopportune time and with serious intent REALLY demands you adore the franchise obsessively in order to want to keep at and continue playing it.
    My second bit of advice for anyone interested and looking to start now is to have a guide, which could either be a vet friend who's willing to oversee your progress, informational website (Gamepress being a good one), and/or subscribing to various FGO-related YT channels (Chaldea Gurus, G&A Reviews, Khadroth, and ZTL are some that immediately come to mind). This'll ease your journey significantly by pointing you in the right direction via instructing you as to what to do and not do. A vet friend is especially nice to have not only to share the suffering with but also have that restraint when the gacha is concerned.
    Either way, I see far too many new players who go in blind with no clue as to what they're supposed to be doing and as a result making numerous irreversible mistakes that'll either slow their progress all the more or downright handicap their account for a long time to come.
    I suppose at the end the day what matters most is that we're all having fun, but I hope this comment comes to find and help whoever reads it.

    • @diosopinions7692
      @diosopinions7692  3 года назад +2

      Yeah, I'd say that in hindsight, I should not have come to a definitive "yes" answer. My thought process was that the people who fall down the Fate rabbit hole usually fall hard, but many more people are going to bounce right off the game because everything that's not the story and characters is sub-par at best.
      I don't necessarily think you need prior knowledge to enjoy the game, but it probably helps out a lot since story and characters are the main reason to stick around.

    • @matchaanad5693
      @matchaanad5693 3 года назад +1

      I 100% agree with your opinion. I've been playing FGO for 3 years now, and the reason why I'm still in this hell is because of the story and characters that becomes my main motivation to keep playing.
      Gameplay isn't that bad imo, depends on the content (like story quest, farming, CQ, etc) it can be fun or boring, and it also depends on your playstyle.
      But I feel like DW made this game very unfriendly for new players, especially when trying to get into the game this late. Events are non-repeatable (i.e. unavailable through shops, etc) which means missing out on CEs and welfares, and the current events are too grindy for newbies who just want to focus on the main story, which is something they need to do to participate in events. Gacha isn't very friendly either.
      Having a guide (the names you mentioned above) is very good advice. Also, if a whale accepted your friend request make sure you NEVER let them go.

    • @Mana_Transfer
      @Mana_Transfer 3 года назад +1

      @@matchaanad5693 Yeah, that’s the thing with starting so late, is you really cannot afford to play casually - which is something anyone would want to and should be able to do: ease into and learn the game at their own comfortable pace WITHOUT any hand-holding - but it just doesn’t allow for that.
      This is why it doesn’t surprise me when I notice a low-level (typically under 100) player from my support list hasn’t signed in for weeks (likely called it quits), because I know just how much more fruitless and futile it must have been and felt for them in comparison to my own beginner experience. That said, I do truly feel the need to commend new players who stick to it despite the setbacks, considering how demoralizing it can be to realize that there’s absolutely no way for you to catch up with everyone else around you unless you’re willing to spend hours upon hours grinding non-stop and/or spend thousands of dollars right off the bat on story banner, for instance.

      It’s because of this that I usually try my best to accommodate requests from them, although I understand that’s in fact something that can be difficult for higher-level players due to there being a support limit and generally having or being inclined to prioritize players with more appealing (desired support and/or high NP level servant) setups. I personally believe however that we should encourage and strive for a balance between the two, as one will potentially net us a ton of friend points, and the other, aid us.

      There’re many other things I’d like to add and elaborate on but that would just make this far lengthier than current and needed. But overall I'm strongly in favor of and support the notion that DW should greatly improve certain aspects of the game in an effort to make it more newbie-friendly.

    • @matchaanad5693
      @matchaanad5693 3 года назад +1

      @@Mana_Transfer TRUE. It is also due to this reason that I always try to accept new players (level 100 and below) because any long-time players know how it feels in those early days lol and I'd like to help them have a better experience playing this game. Still, it's as you say most quit after a while. IMO DW should make events more flexible for both new and old players. For example, event difficulty should be adjusted to the player's master level, or just simply make events available in the shop. I think that can solve a lot of problems for new and old players alike. I still want my rider kintoki, DW!

    • @Mana_Transfer
      @Mana_Transfer 3 года назад +1

      @@matchaanad5693 Haha it’s funny you mention Kintoki, bc the Onigashima rerun was actually the second event I ever participated in, having started during the Gudaguda rerun, and I failed to NP5 him in addition to MLB-ing Golden Sumo (still regret that to this day…) since I still hadn’t fully wrapped my head around how events worked at the time (although NOTHING comes close to failing to obtain/max ascend welfare Nobu’s 4th and final ascmat (really hope mama Maou forgives and goes easy on me in my quest for redemption). So every time I hear others say “Kintoki best welfare”, I can’t really relate to that bc mine’s only NP1 lol.
      But all of this, like you said, could be easily rectified by adding and making past events unlockable in the MP shop. Sure it’d take time, but at least the opportunity would exist, and also being the Artoria fan that I am, you can probably imagine just how much I wish I could get my hands on Santa Alter lol.
      In regards to event difficulty: that’s actually a rather solid idea; although one thing I REALLY wish this game had was the ability to restart from turn 1 or a previous turn, and for AP to be spent AFTER a quest is completed and NOT when initiated. That’d be quite beneficial I think, given how strategic and rng-based gameplay can be (also save scumming is a big/recurring thing when facing bosses), and also the simple fact that stamina is indeed a thing (nobody wants to spend Gapples merely in an attempt to open with the perfect starting hand).

    Yeah, its true, FGO has many issues, but I still love the game. The gacha rates are really bad, but I think it compensates when you play for a certain amount of time. Some of the welfare and low rarity units fulfill very powerful roles. Besides, on NA we have the gift of foresight for the next two years. You can decide exactly which banners you want to role and plan accordingly.
    I didn´t mind that much how slow the story was in the first Singularities (except for America, I skipped most of the second half of it), and I´ve enjoyed everything from Camelot on. I´ve always enjoyed the Fate world and its characters, so I don´t see myself leaving the game until the Lostbelts release on NA and Nasu´s story ends.
    Besides, you don´t have to commit too much time to it if you don´t want to. I can play for 30 min/day and have no issues, because I have other things occupying my time. I´ve spend the last two weeks just farming dailies for MPs to get Bella Lisa once or twice a day.
    When I tried other gacha games, I was always so frustrated with the PvP systems, because I always knew that their units were better than mine and there was nothing I could do about it without spending money on the game or too much time grinding.
    I don´t know... to me, FGO just hit me at the right ime to get invested in for a long time.
