  • Ahhh I'm so thrilled to be posting properly new death series content again!!! I mean it's mostly backstory and very little new stuff, but I don't mind that. Chrysalis is such a fun character to write. I know it's written in a way where it sorta sounds like shining isn't decieved by her, but I think he genuinely doesn't realize she's neither Cadence nor a Hallucination. So y'know. Poor guy is wayyy too depressed to notice. Also, if you read the story you know, (if you havent but are reading the desc then like wtf) but Shining Armor isn't dead yet! I know, kinda deceiving for a death series story to not contain any... death? I just realized I haven't posted a single inbetween that isn't either a direct aftermath or the events leading up to death. I have written some though, I'll be making art for them in the future :)
The shading overall turned out fine, in the mirror it looks much Nicer than outside of it. Pink and Blue don't always make the best color palette for shading, gotta note that for the future :/ It was sorta a struggle redesigning Chrysalis as a Changeling in my style while not changing her design too much, but I think I managed to find a reasonable compromise. Her anatomy still would differ from the average changeling (mostly the prominent sharp teeth) since she's the Queen of the hive and it's like that in the original show anyways. I was surprised how easy it was to involve her in the story, from a much earlier point than I expected. Some comments from you guys gave me the inspiration :D

Queen Chrysalis knew how to persuade her targets. In the halls of the far wings of Canterlot Castle, she stayed hidden, accompanied only by one who thought her his love.
It had all started by the death of Rainbow Dash - the event had surprised Chrysalis more than she’d usually want to admit. She’d seen the resilient mare in action, and it most certainly wasn’t easy to kill her. In fact, it wasn’t easy to kill any of the mane six, and yet, here she stood, all of them dead well before the end of a pony's natural lifespan. Though Chrysalis had gathered that one event had led to another, resulting in the death of the heroines of equestria, it still left her quite surprised. They had beaten her more than once, she hadn’t thought it was possible for them to be wiped out by a single blow. However, that was exactly what had happened, and Chrysalis wasn’t one to complain. With the major players out of the game, invading equestria should’ve been a simple task - that was until princess Celestia had acquired a new Student. The so-called “Starlight Glimmer'' was a more than capable unicorn, potentially even more capable than Twilight Sparkle, who had been, after all, a princess. Chrysalis had found herself retreating more than once after Starlight had forced her armies to do so. However, the student had had a certain sparkle in her eye, a certain greed within her heart that Chrysalis could not mistake. Starlight was walking on a very thin line, and Chrysalis knew that biding her time would eventually bring fruits as Starlight was ought to misstep and fall into the abyss that was the need for power. And happen it did. The circumstances of her death remained mysterious, but through some well-placed spies Chrysalis was capable of figuring out as much as that Starlight had perished in an attempt to turn herself into an Alicorn - just as the Queen had predicted. Now, she had to simultaneously focus her attention on the likely heartbroken Celestia, and, as nopony would expect, the crystal empire. It was currently one of the weakest points in Equestrias protection, and Chrysalis had been paying close attention to any- and everything happening there. She’d noticed a certain Baby dragon had been getting quite sad following the death of the Student, so she sent her best workers to pay him a discreet visit. It didn’t take much to convince him he could bring his dead friends back, one way or another - the little creature was definitely going mad from grief. Eventually, he was led away from the security of the castle and the empire, coaxed into growing greedy, agitated - and, well, the situation solved itself after that. Two changelings perished, but that was of little concern to the Queen. While this all was happening, however, Chrysalis had other concerns. Celestia was bound to look for another student soon, and Chrysalis wanted to lower her chances of finding one as much as possible. That way, Equestria’s defenses were weakened, and though the two Sister Princesses were very powerful, without a proper distraction from the grief Celestia would slowly go insane. In this time, many unicorns were killed and replaced by spies, even more simply had their memories wiped to significantly weaken their magical abilities. The plan was even more potent than she’d thought it’d be, as Celestia locked herself in her castle after only a few months of hopeless scouting. The news of her death not too long after spread quickly, and while everypony was distracted, Chrysalis launched her attack. There were no armies to be seen, nor battles to be fought, but victory came nevertheless. The population of actual ponies started dwindling, and though they still made up more than two thirds of the citizens, with so many changelings around it was very easy to sway their opinion. Most ponies didn’t even know an invasion happened, and those who found out (and didn’t go along from fear) were dealt with quickly. Any flame of resistance was extinguished before it could even spark. Princess Luna was locked in her Castle, but she wasn’t the only one. In a far wing, beyond the eye of the public, a unicorn with a broken heart was wandering aimlessly through the hallways. Every day he received food and he had a supply of water, but on many days he chose not to consume either. His eyes were sunken and the bags under his eyes were swollen and visible from afar from all the crying. At first, Chrysalis thought to kill him, but eventually she realized coaxing him into an alliance with the Changelings might’ve been the wiser move. If word got out about the takeover, having at least one real pony on their side might not have been a terrible idea. So, once she came around to it, she started her masterful trickery. Shining Armor was more than heartbroken - at times he seemed so fragile he could just tumble to the ground dead from the sadness he fell over his loss. It wasn’t all too difficult to convince him Chrysalis, disguised as Cadence, was either a hallucination, or that her death had been a nightmare, and she survived the collapse of the castle. She wasn’t quite sure which one the Stallion believed, but he seemed too tired and depressed to notice any inconsistencies in her narrative. Soon enough she was spending at least a few hours of the day with him, his bond with her growing stronger - it could however not be said it was mutual. They’d spent many evenings exactly like this: Shining was collapsed on the ground, tightly clutching what he thought to be Cadence, who was seemingly genuinely comforting him. She eyed her reflection in the mirror hanging on the wall behind them. Staring back at her was a large, hideous beast with multiple rows of sharp, glistening white teeth, Pupils filling most of its eyes and a hole-filled mane looking as if it was made up of an unholy mixture of kelp and bug-wings. She blinked slowly. Chrysalis knew very well she was the only one seeing this reflection. To anyone else it would’ve matched her appearance of the long dead princess to a T, and though there were imperfections in her disguise, they were far too minor to notice for anyone not knowing what to look for. Tactile senses were somewhat harder to conceal, but with this subject she didn’t even need to properly try. Shining most definitely did not notice any cold, oddly slimy spots on his lover, and if he did, he said nothing of it. “I love you a lot” he mumbled into her chest as the moonlight softly hit their fur. “I love you as much, darling.” The Queen replied, gently stroking his head with her hoof, a grin barely being contained by her lips. “I love you as much.”

Man, I hope we see Chrysalis turn good in this universe eventually, but the picture and mental image are so depressing. It makes me want to cry, and I'm slightly tearing up.

@@The_Life_Stealer ikr! Shining is mourning the loss of his family, and Chrysalis took advantage of that.
