Leon is a genuine dude. I played under study for him on broadway two decades ago in “Caroline or Change”. I know him and his family personally he’s the same in real life. Glad to see he’s getting the recognition he deserves after all these years.

For sure. Never thought of him as a nick star, but more of a talented young musician/actor who nick just happened to get on a couple of their shows. But yeah I first saw him in august rush as well. Him and that movie are both really big reasons why I started playing guitar.

I was kid when he sung songs for the Backyardigans, a teenager when he sung songs for Victorious, and now an adult listening to songs he made as a solo artist, and won a grammy for.
The only thing crazy is how so many of us late 90’s kids were blessed to grow with and follow Leon along his journey. What’s a shame however is posting an ignorant response to a comment trying to praise someone else for their hard work. Find something better to do with your time.

I'm happy for the bag, but they could have had him voice a better singer from the band.

Woody needed a little help on a lot singing parts because every other actor that play group member with lead vocals had vocal training. Woody did not, he was back dancer for people like Chris brown and brandy which helped him get the role. Woody also the dancing double for the Bobby brown actor on the lifetime Whitney movie. Bobby was the best vocals out of the original 5 until after bobby got kicked out and Johnny gill joined. Bobby was a great vocalist in his prime, there is a reason why Bobby is the only one out of new edition with an album that has sold over 10 million copies worldwide. Don’t disrespect, Ricky bell vocals didn’t get better until after Bobby left the group. Ricky has the least stage presence out of anyone in the group or was less enthusiastic on the records which is why he got less singing parts in the beginning. I don’t know about you, but Johnny gill is very annoying at times when he sings because he over does it quite often with no finesse. When I watched that mtv reunion performance of NE, I always skip Johnny Gill solo performance because he was growling the entire time. However he is still the best vocalist in the group

@@yeemawheaver1387 that’s not true bobby and Mike bivins started the group. Mainly bobby brought the group together, this is even stated in the New edition movie. Bobby has sung lead on multiple NE songs, especially before he left. The first song New Edition recorded was Jealous girl, which is him singing lead and Ralph doing the bridge. Did Bobby being an amazing dancer help yes, but you can’t be given the ability to sing lead on multiple songs in a group without being at least being a solid vocalist.

I'm glad I click onto this video. I only knew of him through the show as being the "Token Black Guy" on another corporate TV show to represent ethnicity, but ultimately playing the background character every season. It's good to see that he actually has real talent that isn't controlled by the industry.
And a year later this man has now worked with SZA has been recognized for how great of a singer he is after doing a cover for one of her songs and also produced that same song and literally won a Grammy. I hope he he continues to succeed in life because he's genuinely great at what he does.
