Kilzad Birth i don’t think he put the ball where yadi wanted it once. And wtf are you talking about he bounced the last one almost on home plate on the last pitch and threw a ball before that. Catcher couldn’t even pick it it was so shit it went to the backstop and the runner reached first. That’s a terrible sign when a guy is that wild with his fastball. Even if it’s a sinker.
I faced a #3 prospect in Washington when I was in high school. He threw 92-93 and that was fast. I could not even imagine what a 105 mph fastball would look like
Andy that's your opinion, of course, but I disagree. Chapman may have hit some 103 and higher pitches several times in his career, but there's no way that he could have thrown more than one pitch that's 103 mph or higher in an outing, let on two straight pitches at 105.
Let;s clarify a few things. He is NOT Chapman, not even close. 1. Contact-inducing pitcher, not a strikeout artist. 2. Does not have long stride to safely offload the force onto his legs from his arm, which will lead to a UCL tear MUCH like Joel Zumaya. In fact, he is near a carbon copy sans he throws sinkers. 3. after he eventually blows his UCL, he will still be ok and would be an effective pitcher because there are guys like Seth Maness, whom coincidentally pitched(still pitches?) for the cardinals that only hit 90 and was a nightmare double play machines at his best. My hope is he can alter his mechanics and really downgauge the velocity on that shit, kid is awesome to watch!
@Martin Jensen He's been turned into a reliever from a starter to preserve his arm. Such a talent like that you need to mold and protect it from himself.
Looks like the inverted w and excess arm whip to get the velocity that high. Too much torque on arm. Unlike Chapman who twists his body and is the old fashion drop and drive. Wonder if he will be durable or end up like Zumaya. Look up what Chris O'Leary thinks on him.
I guess. Pitchers being more fragile then ever with a few exemptions. It certainly isn't making baseball a better game to see so many pitchers injured Better he throw 97 without using healthy mechanics rather then 105 with mechanics that you will not lost and at best pitch a few years in relief.
Terry Duffield Dude come on, his best years came with offenses led by prime A-Rod/Griffey and that stacked Phillies lineup that dominated the late 2000’s. I doubt even a 28 year old Moyer could close games 2019. He gave up ALOT of runs and only won games cuz his offense gave him leeway
Herrera probably spent 2 of the 3 minutes of that at bat standing outside of the box, while hicks just wants to pitch. Hicks got upset and threw him 105. Hicks even admitted that. Don't make Hicks mad kids... he will break chapmans record.
I'm just as amazed as anyone by his mechanics that allow him to reach that speed. Unfortunately the human body can only do that so many times before it catches up. Hopefully he'll stay healthy and won't have any problems.
He said he was amped up to face Odubel Herrera because he's doing so good lately. He did "end" his on base streak of 45 games, even though Odubel did actually get to first safely after a strike out/passed ball. Only Odubel could end his on base streak by getting on base, lmfao.
Doesn't matter how hard you throw. But when you can't locate it on a consistent basis, you're not gonna last in the majors. Same applies to football... Doesn't matter how far you throw the football or how great your arm strength is (ie. Cutler or Jamarcus Russell) but if you can't throw it accurately or throw it between the jersey (of your receiver), you're toast!
According to Sports Illustrated, Nolan Ryan pitched a 100.9 MPH fastball which when you correct for radar gun placement, was really the top speed ever, at a blazing 108.5 miles per hour.
Would be a little more impressive if he could locate it better. A lot of pitchers in the league could throw this hard if they were trying to hit the side of a barn
That’s fast as hell, and I know he is a pitch to contact guy, but with that velocity he should be striking out a hell of a lot more than 8 per 9 innings, should be closer to double that. Also looks like there’s no deception in that delivery, major leaguers will square that up easier than a 90mph fastball from 38yr old Rich Hill...
Hicks should just throw four seamers. Sinkers rarely get swings and misses, and they also tunnel poorly with other pitches. Considering that he throws 100+ routinely, he should be striking out way more guys.
Brandon Wong yeah but we bout to have the NASTIEST staff in baseball next year between Hicks, Carlos, Andrew Miller, and Alex Reyes. 3 of them regularly hit 100mph and the other one hits 97 with the highest k/9 as a relief pitcher in mlb history.
are you like fucking 10 i never denied he wasnt, he just didnt throw 107 or 109 for that matter. how about you learn your shit first before commenting fuckbrain
104mph sinker is just unreal.
Rob Soltysiak Just dont chase it, which is what hitters are doing right now, hes getting rocked.
No he isn't...
Calebe the beast You sound stupid, shut it. Getting rocked. You mad?
dude calm down cards are 2nd be happy they are in wild card spot with brewers right now
windowsthe95fan2017 Coming for number 1. Be ready
Damn....Never seen a sinker break 8 feet before....
Right? I wouldn't wanna be behind the plate...
what's a sinker?
8acun it’s basically a two seamer with more break
Pretty late comment but a sinker that breaks 8 feet AND is 104 mph...
@@JoseGarcia-ki3vk Not at all. Its a 2-seamer that sinks.
I suppose 95 would be a changeup from him...good luck
Lfmao yea
Triple digit slider baby
I would not want to the the catcher for Hicks. His wildness could get you killed.
pwk22 what wildness he threw one ball
The Executor Tell me how many times he threw the ball near his glove though
Do you understand what wild means he threw one ball Jesus Christ why are you people so idiotic
Its yadi the goat he is fine

I can't imagine having my thumb jammed up by this dude
Omg! You would be seeing Jesus at that point! Your thumb would be smashed!
I faced a #3 prospect in Washington when I was in high school. He threw 92-93 and that was fast. I could not even imagine what a 105 mph fastball would look like
I don't think you could see it IRL because it's so fast
@@JAS0N_M00RE it blows my mind how Odubel Herrera fouled of 2 of those.
@@dio696 he used the power of beating people
He’s literally throwing as hard as he can imagine how good he would be if he actually tried to control it
CapShotz he does that now. He has better control and a filthy sinker
@@TheChosennn He first pitched for contact, now he blew out his arm trying to throw his hardest
Rip cvrd that’s not why. After Tommy John he’ll come back better than ever bc that’s what Tommy John surgery does
@@TheChosennn Yes that's true but He tried throwing his hardest and he might try for more contact
He has control to bad he got Tommy John
Is this the right handed Chapman!?!
This is the refined version of Chapman.
bolbi stroganovsky with a better arm and filthier stuff.
He isn't as good
Andy that's your opinion, of course, but I disagree. Chapman may have hit some 103 and higher pitches several times in his career, but there's no way that he could have thrown more than one pitch that's 103 mph or higher in an outing, let on two straight pitches at 105.
Billy Du It really isn't my opinion, it's statistical fact. Aroldis Chapman is a better pitcher than Jordan Hicks
That second pitch looked like a damn whiffle ball 🔥
He's unreal already and he's barely getting started
He barely breaks 100 mph now. Come again?
@@stevenhetzel6483 100mph still a very good velocity
Sure his name isn't Rick Vaughn..
Stonefate see ya!!!
youre not laughing if youre the batter or catcher lmao
I was at this game and couldn’t believe what I was seeing! Impressive!!
It's funny cause Aaron Hicks threw the fastest ever ball from the field since statcast has been keeping track of it at 105 mph.
He was throwing 98 in high school, love to see him on the mound today.
Jordan hicks lol
I meant Aaron Hicks of the Yankees.
Frankthetank68 he's talking about Aaron hick, outfielder from the new York Yankees
Brian a running start does help of course now
Let;s clarify a few things. He is NOT Chapman, not even close. 1. Contact-inducing pitcher, not a strikeout artist. 2. Adam K
When asked what advice he would give to his younger self, AJ Burnett said "Save some of your bullets. You'll last longer. Learn to pitch."

Adam K so you want him to change his mechanics and lose his velo?
Not fast balls but are fast balls lol
Herra backed out like hell no I'm not hitting that lol😂😂
You see Herrera's reaction is like "well I'm fucked in this at bat"
Absolutely amazing for a guy only 6’2” and 185
Patrick Fie Craig Kimbrel is only 5’11 and he throws 98-101
Jesse Pinkman though Hicks is great and will be better after when he comes back from Tommy John
Unreal. Straight Gas
If only pitchers could throw that fast in The Show.
... Hicks is phenomenal ... all the way CARDS !!!
I think there will be a shake up in the near future, then Molina comes back, then we win.. Cards need to up their team BA, it's at .235.
he has almost double the amount of walks to strikeouts, he throws hard. Not quite a pitcher, just a thrower.
needs refinement. he should get innings with our up and down starting pitching staff
Justin Edwards I would take your pitching staff over my team the Orioles pitching staff, except oday and britton
How do u like him now, BUST😂😂
Moyer threw in low 80s and won a shitload of games. Right handed 105 and Wild means Minor Leagues quick if he can’t place it.

Hes almost up their with chapman 106 and his sinker clocking 100 mph today
Maybe Nolan Ryan did throw 108mph at some point. Maybe Bob Feller was gassing 103mph. Just maybe Walter Johnson did throw 100+mph. Wow!!!
this guy has an interesting batting stance tho
Those Cardinal guys were just smiling about all the Tommy John jokes they were making.

What he focused on is showing off his amazing speed rather than closed the game.
032107silvester what was the result
Wasn’t even a save situation, when they can’t keep up why would he slow it down?
Lets see how you do with a 105 mph fastball and see if you still think it isn't effective in closing out a game.
pinkfloyd123100 well Chapman surely knows how to do it.
Jayse Robinson exactly the point! 105 will definitely close the game!
105 don’t mean shit if it’s off the plate by 8 feet
i swear, dudes changeup is gonna be like mid 90s
If I was pitching and this guy was at the plate taking 30 seconds every time, every pitch of mine would be at his crotch
Hiks tore his muscuil in hi arm.
Jeez hate to be on the receiving end of his pitches
Can we please stop acting like it’s a sinker. It’s a fastball that sinks. Not a sinker. No one throws a 105mph sinker.
Whats even more amazing is unlike Chapman, Hicks is shorter and much more compact. In essence he doesn't get as much arm action. Awesome!!
The guy acts like he has never seen chapman pitch
