Let;s clarify a few things. He is NOT Chapman, not even close. 1. Contact-inducing pitcher, not a strikeout artist. 2. Does not have long stride to safely offload the force onto his legs from his arm, which will lead to a UCL tear MUCH like Joel Zumaya. In fact, he is near a carbon copy sans he throws sinkers. 3. after he eventually blows his UCL, he will still be ok and would be an effective pitcher because there are guys like Seth Maness, whom coincidentally pitched(still pitches?) for the cardinals that only hit 90 and was a nightmare double play machines at his best. My hope is he can alter his mechanics and really downgauge the velocity on that shit, kid is awesome to watch!

Looks like the inverted w and excess arm whip to get the velocity that high. Too much torque on arm. Unlike Chapman who twists his body and is the old fashion drop and drive. Wonder if he will be durable or end up like Zumaya. Look up what Chris O'Leary thinks on him.

Doesn't matter how hard you throw. But when you can't locate it on a consistent basis, you're not gonna last in the majors. Same applies to football... Doesn't matter how far you throw the football or how great your arm strength is (ie. Cutler or Jamarcus Russell) but if you can't throw it accurately or throw it between the jersey (of your receiver), you're toast!

Lets see how you do with a 105 mph fastball and see if you still think it isn't effective in closing out a game.

Can we please stop acting like it’s a sinker. It’s a fastball that sinks. Not a sinker. No one throws a 105mph sinker.

Whats even more amazing is unlike Chapman, Hicks is shorter and much more compact. In essence he doesn't get as much arm action. Awesome!!

    Tommy John surgery.

Brandon Wong yeah but we bout to have the NASTIEST staff in baseball next year between Hicks, Carlos, Andrew Miller, and Alex Reyes. 3 of them regularly hit 100mph and the other one hits 97 with the highest k/9 as a relief pitcher in mlb history.
