In the 1940's Louis Jordon had 18 number 1 songs. Such a great musician and bandleader. A time when music was produced by instruments only. What a jam. Great reaction Harri. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
My late father was a big fan of Louis Jordan and his band. He would, still, quote lyrics from Jordan's hit songs decades, later. Long ago, I became a fan of this very entertaining band, as well.
Jumpin' Jive! Yes! Sweet! Louis Jordan recorded "Caldonia" in 1945. He definitely influenced Little Richard. Check out Louis Jordan "Keep A-Knockin' (But You Can't Come In)" and "Is You Is Or Is You Ain't My Baby" -- Fire! The Grateful Dead would play "Caldonia" sometimes in concert. The song is classic. For music from the fifties in that style, check out Big Joe Turner "Shake, Rattle and Roll", "Flip Flop & Fly", and "Corrine, Corrina"; Larry Williams "Marie Marie", "Dizzy Miss Lizzy", and "Bad Boy"; LaVern Baker "Jim Dandy", "See See Rider", and "Tweedle Dee" along with many others.
Great music and thanks for playing Louis Jordan. Check out his Greatest Hits "No Moe" featuring "Saturday Night Fish Fry" and others. Every song is the best!
Check out "Hellzapoppin'" from 1940, with Slim Gillard (piano and guitar) & Slam Stewart (stand-up bass) and a whole bunch of amazing dancers. You won't believe you eyes. And you won't stop smiling, either.
Put on his greatest hits and it’s an instant party. Love Louis Jordan. I always thought that he was the link from big band to R&B to rock and roll. Try the song ‘Beware’, it’s the first rap song.
Love me some Louis Jordan! And for some reason, this is the first time it occurred to me to look for reaction vid. So many amazing songs to react to, but I’m willing to bet no one ever reacts to one of my top faves: You’re Much Too Fat. But wow, is it ever a good’un!
Louis Jordan was a first chair Sax player in the best swing jazz band of the 1930's; that would be The Chick Webb Band.....Jordan is my favorite in what i call Jump and Swing....Louis Prima is a very close 2nd!! Both great musicians, and Entertainers. I have 5 or 6 Cd's of Louis Jordan.
He was HUGE in the 40s and into the 50s, I was late to the game of hearing his music but everything I've checked out on RUclips is outstanding. And many of the pieces have, like this, performance clips from movies and shows.
so fun for you to cover Louis Jordan I have the greatest hits. He was very successful and a link from big band to the roots of rock n roll. Love Cab Calloway too.
Some others to try would be Choo Choo Ch’Boogie, Ain’t Nobody Here But Us Chickens, Jack You Dead, Is You Is Or is You Ain’t My Baby, Five Guys Named Moe, just to name a few.
Oh man, that guy was so amazing. Love love him on every level. He's got so many fantastic ones. I love his take on is you Is or is you ain't ma baby. Hard-headed just means somebody is very willful and stubborn and inflexible. And at the time it was a common trope that both women and men would say that about the other. Elvis Presley not much later had a huge hit with hard-headed woman. And I don't know about the lyrics so much as well actually hold on, it's pretty cleverly written, with a whole lot of Bible verses and tropes incorporated. But at any rate I love it musically it's pretty much rockabilly with a good horn section and it's crazy and it's early. Here it is. m.ruclips.net/video/SuhzAixFydo/видео.html
Now I Never liked my real first name but I have a friend(who i attended church with for many years) who was named after this song. Oh parents BE NICE when you are giving kids names. they are the ones who have to live their whole lives with it.
So, this film was made 76 years ago. Let's reflect on that! The raw energy, the overtly testosterone tone, the musical virtuosity, the sense of rebellion and the disregard for prevailing conventions of performance - all things that the white rock and rollers adopted and further developed. Artists like Louis, Big Joe Turner and Fats Waller all had these attributes in some degree and the net result is that their music and to some extent their filmed performances still appeal to us today. Big Joe's "Teenage Letter" for example is over the line from jazz and into proto R&R. Caldonia borrows lyrical ideas from the song "Your Feet's Too Big" which was a 1930s song recorded by lots of people - perhaps most notably by Fats Waller in 1939. Harri - your metadata on this is wrong - this is not Stephane Grappelli!
A lot of women, and men, were thin back then, because there was a completely different diet, and money was less. He is saying she is not all that open to his advances, when he is talking about her hard head. And yes, the women in the background and on the piano are just as important as the music! Nice review and music!
Great video. I’ve never heard this artist before but have always loved Cab Calloway and that big band sound with all the horns. Especially Stormy Weather featuring the Nicholas Brothers dancing. Check it out 🙏
Not only a sax player and singer but he wrote this too! I first encountered him on a 1965 Ace Of Hearts (Decca) re-release of his album "Let The Good Times Roll" originally released in 1956. This album was a collection of hit Decca 78s from the 1940s and I was immediately drawn to "Beans And Cornbread" ruclips.net/video/6yy6qICUTe0/видео.html which starts off as a gentle little ditty and ends up as a parody of a revivalist meeting. Harri: You'll be given a whole load of suggestions of further tracks to react to. Choose any of them. I doubt you'll be disappointed.
Although I love jazz from the 50s I didn't know Louis Jordan. I can hear why: it isn't jazz, it's instrumental R&R. So why not try sometimes the real jazz giants of that time: Count Basie, Dave Brubeck, Miles Davis, Stan Getz etc...
this bassline laid foundation of heavy metal on future. even lemmy killmister said Motorhead was continued Jive and Jump of 50s rock n roll only Motorhead doing was more louder and faster.
This is the music video version, which features the "clean" lyrics. The original song has more suggestive lyrics in one part. 🤣. Not enough to warrant a modern day "explicit" label, but...
America's greatest gift to the world, jazz, blues, rock and roll. this is the root

Saturday Night Fish Fry is another great tune by Louis Jordan.

He's in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as an Early Influence. Check it out when you come to the USA and go to Cleveland!!!
Love Louis Jordan.

Now you talkin' the real roots of Rock and Roll.
There's a reference to this song in History of The World Part I from Mel Brooks, who is a huge jazz fan.
Put on his greatest hits and it’s an instant party. Love Louis Jordan. I always thought that he was the link from big band to R&B to rock and roll. Try the song ‘Beware’, it’s the first rap song.
Angie you are correct. Louis Jordan was the early beginnings of rock n roll.
Also check out “Look Out Sister”, “Don’t Burn the Candle at Both Ends”, and “Pettin and Pokin”. Saturday Night Fish Fry is kinda rap esq too
They had a great hit called "Ain't Nobody Here But Us Chickens" which is very funny and at the same time really jazzy. I love Louis Jordan!
4:14 This is the clean version. On record he's says "But mama didn't know what Caldonia was putting down"
What a master he was.

Oh my goodness! This is some awesome stuff!!!!! 🎶🎶🎵🎶🎵🎷🎷🎵🎺🎶🎶
That tenor sax is almost as big as he is. This kind of music was definitely the precursor to R&R.
He was HUGE in the 40s and into the 50s, I was late to the game of hearing his music but everything I've checked out on RUclips is outstanding. And many of the pieces have, like this, performance clips from movies and shows.
I always feel like I've been there when I hear this music. Wish I could go back to this time.
so fun for you to cover Louis Jordan I have the greatest hits. He was very successful and a link from big band to the roots of rock n roll. Love Cab Calloway too.
He was a huge influence on early rock performers. Little Richard, Chuck Berry and James Brown all said he was their idol.
You got it. This IS rock and roll.
Some others to try would be Choo Choo Ch’Boogie, Ain’t Nobody Here But Us Chickens, Jack You Dead, Is You Is Or is You Ain’t My Baby, Five Guys Named Moe, just to name a few.
Also do Cab Calloway- Everybody Eats When They Come to my House.
Yes! I was going to suggest him to you but another fan did the job. There are dozens of treasures like this one from the 40s and 50s.
I've been listening to Louis for 50 years and he is one of my favorites. Check out "Ain't Nobody Here But Us Chickens"! Really catchy!
If you like Louis Jordan, you would love Cab Calloway.
Love the variety you bring to the channel!

If you ask me, this very song started all this. See this leg kick, this is pure rock, :) .
Now I Never liked my real first name but I have a friend(who i attended church with for many years) who was named after this song. Oh parents BE NICE when you are giving kids names. they are the ones who have to live their whole lives with it.
He was an influence on Muddy Waters, who was a HUGE influence on R&R.
Pretty cool. I kept expecting the lady on the 🎹 piano to sing. 😁
Oh this is fantastic I love this song. Great selection and a great reaction Harri.
This is wonderful! So entertaining! I just love it. 🌺✌️

Check out BB King Live at Montreaux 1993 performing this song. FANTASTIC!
He was definitely a huge influence of the beginning of rock and roll, you listen to Saturday Night Fish Fry
1945. He had quite a number of hits including this one.
Harri you find the best stuff!

In this one you can hear how his voice probably influenced Little Richard.
Original r&b was foundation of rock & roll.
Got a pair of "related" songs for you....Louis Jordan's Ain't Nobody Here But Us Chickens and Cab Calloway's A Chicken Ain't Nothing But A Bird.
Great video. I’ve never heard this artist before but have always loved Cab Calloway and that big band sound with all the horns. Especially Stormy Weather featuring the Nicholas Brothers dancing. Check it out 🙏

I did discover your channel today.👍
Tom and Jerry cartoon loved this music and clothing. I believe because they were drawn in this era. 1940s?

I love his song G.I. Blues. You-Tube has a live version. Check it out!

Stephane Grappelli does not seem correct and Night and Day not the song title here...oops. Album name?
