Just for the people who are not familiar with him: half of the classical records of concertos and caprice in the record story have been covered by this man. He worked with every orchestra in every state and he is been prolific since the 50’s. It’s a pure joy to see him still humble and down to earth.
"this will be our response to violence : to make music more intensely, more beautifully, more devotedly than ever before." Leonard Bernstein, 11/22/1963
What a coincidence!!! I just re-watched Schindler’s List an hour ago & got so moved by the theme song, I went to RUclips to see a live performance of the song & instead, The Late Night Show, which I subscribe to, uploaded this episode! Amazing coincidence!!!
Saw this talented bastard on Sesame Street as a very young boy. The memory of his almost cartoonishly high level of skill with his chosen instrument has never left me.
I was just thinking of the same thing! :) I don't remember how old I was when I saw it, just that I was very little (I also don't know if I saw it as a rerun). My parents knew who he was and liked him before he did that appearance, so they were thrilled when I would get excited about seeing him on tv every time after that.
All due respect to your comment being five years old, your math is off. He appeared on “Shalom Sesame’ in 1987, when he was 42. Not a ‘very young boy.’ He and Toby had been married for 22 years by then, and were parents.
@@Quaker-tc8ue The commenters meant that they were very young when the saw Itzhak on Sesame St. Neither of them mentioned the age of 5, that I can see.
This is wonderful, I hope there continues to be guests in the same vein in the future! Hearing classical music on mainstream television is something I'm sure we could all get used to.
When I saw itzhak Perlman in person for the first time ever last March I must say, I was absolutely stunned and amazed by how talented he performed! I literally never seen any violinist as talented as itzhak Perlman especially with that impressive performance he performed at the bright age of 13 years old!😄😄😄😄
“Sometimes it is the artist's task to find out how much music you can still make with what you have left.” Yes! and Maestro, all of 'it' is still there, and much much more...
Hy is fantastic Itzhak Perman..... very good violiniste.Hy is very sympatic, humain, wonderful profesor..... Hy is Amazing.Hy is Amazing, best violiniste!
(I'm paused at 0:46 so I haven't seen the rest of the interview, I'm sure it's fantastic, but...) That chair just SWIVELLED AROUND SO SPOOKILY! Like a weird Halloween horror type thing, or creepy devil-owl O.O Hahahaha. Edit - yes, seems like a nice man; nice video :) Don't lose hope!
Pleeeassee. Voting is so important. To Republicans: "At no point in your rambling, incoherent governance were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational action. @@haikat4 You mean the 160,000 deaths that make the US having the worst per capita deaths from the pandemic while the majority of the developed world has negligible infection rates? Or the worst recession since the great depression? How about the largest percentage gains in national debt? Or maybe the sitting president who is trying to undermine the elections? Which one proves that Republicans have governed in any sense that can be considered rational?
This is also a lesson in coping with JEALOUSY! Itzhak Perlman comes out in a wheel chair. He could have been siting down , to begin with. I think he did this to show us his disability, to inspire us. But also, to show humility, so we would not feel jealous of him, because of his great talent. Jealousy can be disabling, in many subtle ways.... THANKS MUCH Harry www.SavingSchools.org
While we’re privileged to have a great artist perform for us, I can’t help wondering that this guest appearance was pushed onto the late show by special interests. Something unnatural about the whole thing. Not that it’s wrong but something felt forced

Look at Jon grinning in the background! So adorable!
Id be grinning to. Not everyday you have the opportunity to perform with someone like Perlman.

First Tony Bennett now Itzhak Perlman? Stephen, I love you.
Perlman’s music is on fire 🔥.
Been playing violin for 14 years, and everything but of my technique is modeled after this man. “🐐 PERLMAN”
A beautiful man...You as well Colbert!
His playing of the theme for Schindler's List always brings a tear to my eye.
I have seen him perform in person, and it was powerful!
Wonderful musician and wonderful person
Having Stephen sit there was an elegant touch.
Just the decent thing to do, just like we would expect from a decent human being like Colbert.
Wonderful. Just wonderful. What is not to love about the Maestro?
This man is a treasure.
what a great artist and gentleman
Love, love, love Itzhak! Saw him so many times at Mostly Mozart. So much beauty and joy.
Two wonderful men together!!!

More like serendipity!
:0 it's a piece
Wish the interview had been longer, he has a lot to say.
Being a violinist, this feels great 🤩
Love the reception that pretty young audience gave Perlman. A national treasure.
That was a different time. Americans were smarter and more cultured than we are today.
Holy cow. At 13 he had more talent and skill in his little finger than my whole neighbourhood.
What an entrance!!

That was one of the coolest entrances I've ever seen.

Love this guy ‼️✌🏻🧔🏻💖
Well that brought me to tears, the music.
What he played was poetic on so many levels!!!!
“Sometimes it is the artist's task to find out how much music you can still make with what you have left.”
Yes! and Maestro, all of 'it' is still there, and much much more...
I loved his playing all my life. When CDs first came out, they were expensive to buy (😆 yes I’m old). I used borrow his CDs from the public library.
Thanks so much Stephen for having him as a guest! More artists like him on the show please!
ITZHAK PERLMAN IS ON THE DAILY SHOW!!!!!!!!!
My worlds are finally coming together. :3
A delight
A LIVING LEGEND!!!
Ithzak Perlman is together very, very wonderful violinist 🎻 I love it like much "🌷❣️❣️
Itzhak is a true inspirational icon.
The Late Show should really do more of these elder musicians/artists guest interviews since it’s a great way to learn about history

Stephen, how about some opera singers next time! So glad you had Itzhak Pearlman on
WOW !
Oh, cello there.
Awesome
I now regret deleting that PBS documentary about this man on my DVR.
This is why Stephen Colbert is the best late night host out there🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽

not bad for a 13 year old >.< Legend
As a violinist myself, damn son, that is pretty insane.
The God of music.
2:17 he looks like Deniro!
The Al Pacino of classical music who else agrees 100%?
He has a lot of potential, could be huge one day
Interesting video 🎗🥇
You should donate your book proceeds to Puerto Rico too. They are part of our country and need support too.
They show the interview but not the playing?????
Such a legend 🎻🎼🎵🎶✨

It never occurred to me before that the normal interview dais area isn't wheelchair-friendly.
really? 60 year ago
I feel like the interviews feel better without the desk...

Invite David Letterman and Paul Shaffer back Steven!
