You mentioned that God was misrepresented by Moses as upset with the people because Moses did this action in an angry manner, etc. However you did not point out that it was the fact that Moses said "shall we bring forth water for you out of this rock?" Speaking "we" as he and Aaron. He did not represent God as doing this for the people. He took credit for this himself. He did not honor God in this sign/miracle and attest to God's provision. It wasn't Moses' or Aaron's provision to the people. Moses knew better. He also was told to speak to the rock, not strike it in this instance. He instead did strike it because he was angry towards the people. So this also dishonored the instructions given to him by God. "Num. 20:8 “Take the rod; and you and your brother Aaron assemble the congregation and speak to the rock before their eyes, that it may yield its water. You shall thus bring forth water for them out of the rock and let the congregation and their beasts drink.”
