After joining Ocean back in August 1987 I was tasked with helping Colin to try and get this game out for the 1987 Christmas market. Thanks to you David! I used to play this game on my C64 around summer 1988 here in Italy. I'm 45 now but I can clearly recall the feeling of my first seconds of gameplay! Best regards, Jimmy
What a nice feeling when you had to wait more than 3 minutes loading the game and after that you hear the game's intro music after a successful loading. Nice memories. C-64 and Amiga: The best of the best.
Thanks for uploading I use to play this game this version. lol what memories I didn't have a joystick or it didn't control everything, can't remember exactly, but we would use the keyboard with both hands and use the other controller with our foot in order to shoot or something lol Thank you!!

Salut Run Out :) Oui, cette version C64 est vraiment sympa, en plus le jeu est assez vif :) Je sais bien que ce n'est pas la version préférée d'Upsilanre, mais la version MSX est très sympa aussi, même si elle est moquée par ce dernier à cause de "son incapacité à proposer un scrolling".
FWIW, the version you're playing is crack-modified. Not just the infinite lives cheat, but that grayscale Contra title screen isn't in the original C64 Contra if you play on actual hardware. Notice it has the text at the bottom that says brought to you by DGN; that's the crack group.

Huge if true. Never played it on my c64, only on nes, but looks great. The sound could have been better?

Which emulator are you using? I presumed you remapped the space bur jump button to a control pad, which is why I ask so I know which emu I can try.
