I seriously think Coulton could write a musical theatre piece that would rival the best of all time. as a huge fan of the theatre I really hope he will consider it.
I gotta say, I usually prefer album versions on almost every artist I listen to...but Jonathan Coulton is an exception. I love him WAY more live, it's such a beautiful sound.
I was gonna say the same in a less nice tone, "wow, an artist that's actually good live, too many singers half assing it live". I guess it has to do with how calm he is at this performance as opposed to running around the stage, that kind of fucks with your voice and being on tune.
Loved the way the concert starts. You can tell he's scared shitless so instead of any intros or joking around he just jumps right into the music and gradually gets more comfortable with the audience. You can even tell by the lighting and how it intentionally keeps the audience kinda obscured until later. Really neat.
Man, I loved the Pink Haired Lady Zombie & Andy Bates show when I was a kid....netflix should really pick this up for a few more seasons...this really brings back those after school special memories.
"The film also features Paul and Storm, and Kristen Shirts on ukulele."- maybe you forgot someone?, like, a great big deal of someone, you know, the- I dont need another doll- nice suit- killier smile- human keyboard- motherfucking MAN: Mr Andy Bates? Maybe?
Absolutely stunning performance by Jonathan Coulton. I've loved his music for years now, and this is just an amazing two hours. Sit down with a good drink, maybe a bowl of popcorn, and just relax with some truly amazing music.
There's no such thing as a bad JoCo fan. We're all here to spread love and geekiness and just like him, we're all just doing what we can and being honest about it so as far as I'm concerned, you're killing it!
I want so much to share this video with someone and say "the cake is not a lie" but I don't have any friend who really likes Jonathan Coulton. Best. Concert. Ever.
He has an orange tabby! Nice Martin Guitar product placement. Paul and Storm! From my neck of the woods. The bit with Andy could have crashed and burned but it was AWESOME! Uke totally changes the atmosphere. The RockStar finale was a lot of fun!
Two thousand and eight seems like such an innocent time when looking back. Memes were fun, the internet was full of fun and interesting things to see and do and nobody would try to ruin your life for talking shit on a forum or on twitter. It was a better time and I miss it.
I like this rendition of The Future Soon better than the album version! Great sound when his voice is holding up to it & he projects a bit more, like this. Sometimes he sings so _softly..._ {listens to Soft Rocked}
Hey man, thats pretty cool! This is one of my favorite pieces of music ever so I see your face a lot lol. Glad you were there, I can only wish for time travel, in the future soon.
1st time when I heard for Jonathan I was playing L4D2. I think it's the passing campaign. There was a jukebox and then I heard for him. I was like "Man, this song is golden". After that i listened to creepy doll, i fell fantastic, baby got back... Jonathan is surely most underrated singer EVER, but. At least there are hardcore fans like me who will always listen to him
Agreed, I just play this in the background on loop sometimes for extended chill gaming. I've lost track of how many times I've listened to this video in the last 6 months. >.
I only know Jonathan Coulton by Music from Portal/Portal 2 and I enjoyed that Video so I'd like to have the DVD to watch that Video anytime again :) thanks for uploading!
Retrospection/anticipation in the lyrics corresponds to the use of suspended chords (fifths); sad/scary segments are relayed in minor chords. Legato to achieve dreaminess in " A talk with George". Allegro in "I feel fantastic" (connotation of taking the drug, speed), and allargando at "sometimes I like to slow things down..." The use of arpeggiated chords (very difficult on the guitar, BTW) in "I'm your moon". and retardando of the arpeggio at the end of "I'm your moon" (Oh, and a Lecuna as a pause in "Message redacted" during Chiron Beta Prime.)
ah how innocent the pre-2014 internet was. I saw Anamanaguchi and Jonathan Coulton at PAX2009 and it was probably the most wholesome concert experience I've ever had.
We can keep that up, just keep your head up and always try your best to be that force for wholesome good. We got this. The world is a great place when we let it be one. ❤
I go through these cycles where I love Jonathan Coulton and where I completely forget about him.
Tony Terwey saaaaame
I do the same, only without the part about loving him.
over ten years and im still listening
That's me right now
yeah, i'm back to Coulton, lap 8
There is real, honest, human poetry in a lot of his stuff...and then robots and homicidal that make you smile. Such balance.
He looks so fuckin happy. 'sgreat.
so many happy nerds
i love it
It's impossible not to smile while watching this.
And I read this with a big smile in my face.
I seriously think Coulton could write a musical theatre piece that would rival the best of all time. as a huge fan of the theatre I really hope he will consider it.
+Jim Bradshaw Like 2 years ago there was a kickstarter to make a musical with his songs, but they didn't get enough money. :(.
There is one in Boise last weekend and this weekend called The Future Soon. It is fantastic!!
+Karen C I might add that it was sold out last weekend!
He wrote a few songs for the new Spongebob Musical.
Well, he has a concept album now.
That kiss at the end of Code Monkey is goshdarn adorable ❤️
Ikr!!
it was gross
@@JHprouductions633 grow up
He is such a gift to humanity
Best two hours I've spent in a long time
Right?? Instead of watching a movie, I will choose Best Concert Ever all the time :)
I went to his latest concert in San Francisco a week ago and I found Andy Bates on the end of the show, talked a little with him, nice dude.
I gotta say, I usually prefer album versions on almost every artist I listen to...but Jonathan Coulton is an exception. I love him WAY more live, it's such a beautiful sound.
Me too!! He's a very big exception :D
I was gonna say the same in a less nice tone, "wow, an artist that's actually good live, too many singers half assing it live". I guess it has to do with how calm he is at this performance as opposed to running around the stage, that kind of fucks with your voice and being on tune.
See also: Tim Minchin :-D
@Jay Hart Try Damien Rice. You might find another exception.
I suspect that his "studio" recordings are just him playing and singing.
Just imagine that, huh?
Loved the way the concert starts. You can tell he's scared shitless so instead of any intros or joking around he just jumps right into the music and gradually gets more comfortable with the audience. You can even tell by the lighting and how it intentionally keeps the audience kinda obscured until later. Really neat.
'Code Monkey' was a relevant but fun song to me before now. Hearing it live and acoustic is suddenly so heartbreaking and depressing.
Good music.

I love how he just devolves the concert into RUclips Poop for a while during Mr. Fancy Pants.
I never thought about it like that, but that's true.
Man, I loved the Pink Haired Lady Zombie & Andy Bates show when I was a kid....netflix should really pick this up for a few more seasons...this really brings back those after school special memories.
That’s hilarious! Yes, get Netflix on the phone!!!
Happy First of May, everybody!
I've never seen a crowd clap along to a song and actually stay on rhythm like that. props.
The crowd at Skullcrusher Mountain sings so beautifully

No biggie. Although i was hoping you'd say:"Well, he signed the release". Hahaha I love this concert. Thank you.

multiple i'll either chill with this or just go to sleep whilst viewing/listening
Can we have a round of applause because of how amazing JoCo is?
I just may be the worst Coulton fan for not knowing this existed...Can't thank you enough for posting this. Makes me want to see him again live soon!
There's no such thing as a bad JoCo fan. We're all here to spread love and geekiness and just like him, we're all just doing what we can and being honest about it so as far as I'm concerned, you're killing it!
Who is still listening in 2022? 👍
I still feel the need to come back and watch this concert. The core memory of it is strong.
Great singer. Listening to his music always inspires me to play the guitar.
damned hipster nerds with their good chill music
Hey, at least we have good music tastes :)
“So something bad happened, some scientists got together in a room”
Guy in the audience: “OH NO, SCIENTISTS!”
😂
Timestamp?
i discovered this two days ago and it's already one of my favourite videos ever of all time in the history of everything ever :)))
Jonathan Coulton is great!
It's been a while I listened to JoCo. I'm Your Moon is one of the cutest love songs I've heard, honestly. This concert is gold!
How does this only have a quarter million views by now? Classic Coulton songs and worth replaying every once in a while for every fan.
Merry Christmas! From Chiron Beta Prime.
Also, this guy is a musician AND a comedian. :'D Love it. I really want to see a concert someday.
tom lehrer, bo burnham, or davincis notebook. those three are musical comedians, all really good
+PizzaManager101 I recently discovered Tom Waits, too. I've heard Lehrer's 'Masochism Tango' and fell in love.
+Tessa Bakker tim minchin! tim minchin!
This film needs waaaaaay more views.
Word!!
I like I'm Your Moon a lot more now that I know the backstory
1:51:52 THIS GUY got to name the CD and DVD? Lucky bastard...
Literally nothing is as good as this video.
I want so much to share this video with someone and say "the cake is not a lie" but I don't have any friend who really likes Jonathan Coulton. Best. Concert. Ever.
Here on the first of may. Love you John
JC never fails to put a smile on my face.
Thank you so much for uploading this, all the best things to this daring guy and his understanding and supportive wife.
I forgot how much I love JCo. Wonderful set.
He has an orange tabby!
Nice Martin Guitar product placement.
Paul and Storm! From my neck of the woods.
The bit with Andy could have crashed and burned but it was AWESOME!
Uke totally changes the atmosphere.
The RockStar finale was a lot of fun!
Totally agreed!!
I am addicted to this fella!
It's been months since I found this and still listening..
This is amazing on so many levels! Just an original genius of a guy.
Can confirm if you go to his shows (went to one last night) you can buy the CD/DVD combo at the merch stand
Best concert ever!!!! Literally the best two hours of my year
I simply can’t get enough of this.
This is making my workday rule. I'm glad that any time I need JoCo, he's there.
Damn, that's the sweetest line in front of a concert hall i have ever seen.
I've never heard a crowd sing this well, wtf.
Agreed!!
Only at a Jonathan Coulton concert do you need to make a request for _more chaos_ in the audience singing!
@@TakenTook You know, I think you might have a good point there.
You've never been to a Ben Folds concert.
@@RemingtonDeanBut how well does he fold?
I love the song about the squid.
Monsters get lonely too...
The catalogue warrants another of these!
One of my all time fav artists..
Great singer, i'm gonna learn the guitar and you can bet i'm gonna jam to many Joco songs
I keep coming back to this... I love this concert; I could do without the still alive/game segment, but I'll take it in the mix.
Love this guy....love his music ❤️

Thats why you gotta save your trolling for reddit. More anonymous.
The internet always has its dark side , its just that you havent discovered it yet in 2008 for recollection.
Pure genius. And love. Lot's of love.
Still watching the JoCo! This concert continues to carry me through hard times

Same!! It's the best version of the song!
so sad that I will never be able to see him live because I live in europe ;((((
that’s no barrier! transatlantic ticket prices have never been lower with Norwegian, Level and others pushing them way down.
He's performed in the UK before.
Wow. Mr.Coulton, this show is pure gold! I have never seen such a well-prepared live concert like this. Congrats! 😁
Outstanding
amazing!
Goddamn !

Andy Bates is a true hero.
The title didn’t lie. This is the best concert ever
Saw this legend in London... I was drawn to his music because of my Warcraft interests.
That is so heart-warming to rewatch it still and every time realize that this is a pure gold for ages

Guys I gotta do a choir assignment on this what are three musical concepts used in the preformance that you don't think I already know
Retrospection/anticipation in the lyrics corresponds to the use of suspended chords (fifths); sad/scary segments are relayed in minor chords. Legato to achieve dreaminess in " A talk with George". Allegro in "I feel fantastic" (connotation of taking the drug, speed), and allargando at "sometimes I like to slow things down..." SO AMAZING.
Mandelbrot is in heaven...
At least he will be when he's dead

That is, in fact, what’s happened. Coulton omits the line when playing it live in the latest concerts!
What an awesome show!
I hope JoCo does a show in Nashville. It's a weird town for him specifically, but hey. A guy can hope there's more music than fucking country.
lol the fancy pants remix
So good :)
please come to scotland !
