Excellent video. I use a regular bahtinov mask all the time for focusing with my Meade 8" SCT and I also have a tri bahtinov mask 2nd modified version that I have had for some time but just recently put it on for the first time just to see the result, not intending to do any adjustments that night whether it was out of collimation or not. I was surprised how dim the 2nd modified version tri bahtinov was in comparison to the regular bahtinov. Also the star pattern appearance was not what I had expected compared to images I have seen previously. It did however look just like the images you show here for the 2nd modified version though, with the central spikes brighter and the two accompanying spikes on either side of each main spike dimmer and one hexagonal blob in the middle. I just ordered an original Cytan version and I expect it to look more like what I see in this video labeled the original version, with brighter spikes and a more traditional spike appearance, just three separate six spike sets. I was aware that there were different versions of the tri bahtinov but had never seen the differences demonstrated clearly side by side like this so had assumed that the most recent 2nd modified must be best when I think I would have been more satisfied with the original version. I'll find out when I receive it in a few days.
Thank you for the excellent video
Thank you for showing this. I am in the process of 3d printing some of the Tri Bahtinov masks for my Newts and SCT for checking fine collimation errors. I agree the traditional bahtinov is best for just focus but for checking collimation the Tri versions are great. Clear skies
I wish I could see a photo of a tribahtinov mask in focus but out of collimation and one in focus and in collimation for a SCT
I believe if out of collimation the length of the spikes will differ. So longer one side than other.
Buen vídeo amigo un saludo y feliz año 2021
Disfrutemos de la vida astronómica. Gracias.
Parabéns pelo trabalho. Excelente vídeo.
Pretty music.
So, the mask with more no. of Bahtinov factor is better?
Also, what is min. Bahtinov factor I can keep for Celestron 8 SE (focal length: 2032mm, aperture: 203.2mm, obstruction: 65mm)?
Increasing the Bahtinov factor will lengthen the spikes, so it's best to increase the Bahtinov factor if machining and crafting is possible. However, it is very difficult to manually make a mask with a large Bahtinov factor, so a factor of about 200 is appropriate.
@@masaschumit1502 Thank you so much! Great video!
Interesting video. What is the diameter of the mask you used for the 127mm mak?
A 180 mm diameter Bertinoff mask is attached to a lens cover made of corrugated cardboard with an inner diameter of 145 mm, an outer diameter of 180 mm, and a thickness of 10 mm.
So is there a superior mask? Or does it just come down to preference?
I think the regular classical Bahtinov mask is superior and I prefer it.
