The tips were altered to point down to prevent exhaust fumes from being pulled into the cabin while cops sat idling for long periods of time. Apparently that was an issue and that was the engineer's solution and Ford didn't want to make 2 separate exhausts, one for police and one for civilian, so all of them do that.
They also help keep the tips clean so less cleaning which is nice. I can live with it because you can't really tell unless its cold out or ya look really close. Going down the road no one will know and they function the same.
Another fine review!! If they made an AWD 2-door version, I'd get two of 'em. I loved my old Explorer Sport, even if it was half as powerful as this one. Ideal snow vehicle, bar none.
Minnesota sheriffs tested one their interceptors with a stage 1 tune, gained power from 400hp to 500hp. Thats impressive! So these have great potential!
Really like Sarah. An suv that gets other drivers to take it easy around you is valuable I am going to consider one just for that. Thanks for the in depth review, Nice outfit
"One thing I notice when driving this... people around you tend to drive exactly at or slightly under the speed limit." LOL. I will give Ford credit... I've always liked the styling on this incarnation of the Explorer. They sell gobs to police departments. I wonder how many more would sell to consumers without the "cop car" vibe.
We have these at my work, in fact this one may be one of ours, and after taking them out on the track I was immediately impressed. A used Explorer ST was on the shortlist for my next daily driver. Ultimately went for something more sensible for myself, but don't sleep on these ST's. Fast, comfy, lots of utility.
I had a '22 ST, RWD, no moonroof, massaging seats, 2nd row bucket seats, performance brake package, really hard to find. It had Steeda lowering springs / front STB / rear sway bar, AWR rear diff brace, 295 tires, and a full-size Steeda intercooler with a 93 octane tune. That was one fast SUV, got over 30 mpg on the highway!
Neat family unit if you want a Ford. I was issued the police version of this, same thing but Awd. First chase it got in and high temp light came on. When I was able to pop the hood, one of the coolant hoses had popped loose. Dealer said, just looks like the factory didn’t put the hose on all the way and position the clamp right, sorry. Easy fix, but shouldn’t have happened to a vehicle less than a year old & 18k miles. 😮 Another reason for my family vehicles we only buy: Subaru, Toyota, Honda or Mazda. 👍🏻
Hi Sarah, glad to see the new shop is up and running. I appreciate this review as I’m considering replacing my 2013 Explorer with a 25 Explorer ST. Hopefully you get an AWD drive version that you can take off road. I don’t have high expectations of its off road capability. I wouldn’t trust my current Explorer off road.
I don’t know if anybody has mentioned it with the exhaust being placed the way that it is. But for a number of years, the exhaust was coming into those vehicles and killing people and police officers. I believe that is their remedy to that.
@ because there’s distinct difference between pedestrians and people of service . If I didn’t word it in a in a way that was approved by you. I don’t apologize… lol
Forgot about that. Yer right. Not sure how turning the flow DOWN on a car sitting at idle helps get the exhaust further away from the vehicle. Maybe Ford needs to change their idea light bulb. The current bulb seems burnt out.
If you own one of these don't get frustrated when everyone in front of you slows down to exactly the speed limit. Know what you are getting into before buying.
There are several reasons for the down looking exhausts; people say it is because of the fumes, but noope it bernoulli's principle, the fact that fast moving air below the car helpsimprove the RAM effect (pressure waves due to the pull/push fule mix /exhaust reaching resonance in a certain engine rpm regime) on the engine decressing resistance to empty the cylinders thus improving combustion, efficiency and power but yes, people can continue to say that is bevcause Engineers don't like dirty looking pipes
Wait you mean the ST line? Serious question and sorry if it sounds mean but… why? They are almost as much as an ST but come with none of the performance options
The exhaust tips are hilarious. Although I drive Navigators and Expeditions for limo service, the same thing will apply here. Customers have complained that the hot exhaust hit them in the shins.......when equipped with the straight exhaust tip The Expedition being a cheaper version of the Navigator, has ordinary not so fancy turned down exhaust tips tucked in........on some models Customers have noted, not complained, that this "limo" they booked looks cheapish. Ford's solution is interesting.
As you've changed sides for the score board would you also consider putting your wheelcam for the braking test on the other side? Changing the braking shots from you going right to left to the wheel going left to right does my OCD in! Please!
My town cops all have these things. They much rather have the Crown Vic. I heard one officer say to another. Pretty hard stuffing 350 LB. 6'7" felons into those little things. Vans are called in most of the time. Big on outside/tiny on inside/ & people getting bigger every year. Around here, folks don't tow with these. It breaks. Todays Cars, no matter what make-model it is, sound terrible. Recycled beer can engines just don't cut it.
Turn downs were for a reason...... Due to excessive idling with the interceptor models, exhaust was actually leaking back up through the seal in the rear door and causing cops that were idling patrol cars to have issues with carbon monoxide poisoning.... So that's why they came up with those turndowns.... The issue came to light when a cop actually passed out while driving and crashed the car due to lack of oxygen
Aha! First car review in the new shop! - Those exhaust-pipes were so weird... Soccer-mom-mobile you say? - Does that mean that "ST" in this case stands for "Soccer Transport"? - Sounds like an owl giving birth 😂😂😂 🦉 Thank you for what you do and Stay Awesome!
So far I’m glad I have a 2020 and not the 2025 haha. Although it’s cool that RWD is an option, I’m glad mine is AWD, I’m glad I have the 2 bolt diff instead of the single bolt, I’m glad I have physical buttons for climate and radio, and I’m glad I have the real tow capacity lol. What a downgrade
Sloped belt line on the Explorers looks terrible. Otherwise I might buy one. Previous gen looked better but was transverse engine, so a no-go. Nice review.
lol 0:06 in and I had to pause to figure out that was supposed to be "_Made_ in Chicago"... I never said I could English very well. ;) I wonder if the semi-fake exhaust tips are to help with how dirty they get when manufacturers make the engine run super rich on acceleration. I had that problem with both my GTI as well as Golf R. After some time, the black soot would start to stain/pit the tips if I didn't go back and clean them regularly. This gives you 'real'(ish) exhaust tips that will never get dirty, but aren't the stupid plastic ones that are molded into the real bumper!
I think it tells you a lot about the drivers, if they slow down to the speed limit around one of those. It means, they are aware of themselves breaking the law and do it, because they think they won't get caught. That's not particularly an American issue, more like world wide issue though, but it's becoming more and more of a problem. Going the speed limit should be the norm, not the exception.
Agree with you on the exhausts, what's the point of real pipes going to the rear and putting turn downs in them and continuing it with 'fake' tips. It only adds cost and complication to the manufacturing process.
I appreciate your outfits color coordination. However, I missed the lightening bolt graphics bouncing around the tailpipes during the beans test. As always, a great fun to in-depth review.
The lightning bolts were hiding under the vehicle where the tips turn down. I'm convinced that Sarah's (self-confessed) OCD compelled her to include them but they were simply obscured by the SUV. This is my belief and I'm sticking to it (until Sarah says otherwise.)
I've always liked the explorer ST. Just weary of all the quality control issued they've had with these. I'm still waiting for Ford to make an ST version of the Maverick. Will definitely try to pick one up if they do.
That front lower A arm that has "NO LIFT" is PRECISELY where I would want to put a jack stand when I want to work on the unibody of the vehicle. Where else can I lift the vehicle, leaving the body free to work on without removing the subframe/s ?
They typically have a jack point in the front center under the transmission where the unibody is braced and rear center near the rear differential as well as the 4 pinch points at the wheels. You can jack it up and put jack stands under the pinch points. They make inexpensive rubber blocks to adapt jack stands to pinch points to prevent damage.
Did I hear you correctly? Did you say the exhaust and turbos are one piece to the cylinder heads meaning if the turbos are bad or the exhaust manifolds are cracked or leaking you get a free cylinder head with your purchase!
Love your videos and your integrity, but I wouldn't mind you advertising your (or others for that matter) products a bit more. Show us what they can do! I really wish you the best and it would absolutely be worth it if that would make you a little more flexible as a viewer

Apparently that was an issue and that was the engineer's solution and Ford didn't want to make 2 separate exhausts, one for police and one for civilian, so all of them do that.
I worked at a Ford dealer when they recalled the Explorers for that reason. They just put on new tips.
That makes absolutely no sense at all 😂
They could have routed exhaust thru donut box and used donut holes for a fume reducer.
Cops n donuts ❤
That is genius. Thanks for the info.
They also help keep the tips clean so less cleaning which is nice. I can live with it because you can't really tell unless its cold out or ya look really close. Going down the road no one will know and they function the same.
I came for the cars, I stay for the comedy.
Thanks!
She's a riot!😂
The bolstering test is the highlight of my week.
I like to hit the settings button and slow it down to .25😅
Another fine review!! If they made an AWD 2-door version, I'd get two of 'em. I loved my old Explorer Sport, even if it was half as powerful as this one. Ideal snow vehicle, bar none.
Those exhaust tips…lol. Well, at least what you can see won’t get all blacked up with carbon. Great review in the new shop. Thank you, Sarah. 👍👍👍
I always see these Fords with these and every time I think a center punch and a drill would do wonders.
Love the names of your detailing products ! 😃
I loved my Lincoln MKT with the 3.5 ecoboost AWD. It was basically a Taurus SHO in SUV form.
Sarah's reviews are the best. Hey automania, this is the person to review your vehicles with the most real life reviews. Love the reviews Sarah!
Minnesota sheriffs tested one their interceptors with a stage 1 tune, gained power from 400hp to 500hp. Thats impressive! So these have great potential!
I look for the lack of roof rails to confirm it's most likely a police vehicle. 😊
Not a guarantee in CA. If you drive this be ready for everyone to slow down in front of you.
Really like Sarah. An suv that gets other drivers to take it easy around you is valuable I am going to consider one just for that. Thanks for the in depth review, Nice outfit
Just keep in mind everyone will slow to the speed limit in front of you. You’ll never get anywhere fast in a white, dark blue or black explorer.
Easiest way to tell; Interceptor utilities don't have roof rails. The White/Black STs with the black alloys definitely look the part though.
When the computer overlords take over, your seats become weapons!😅

4:17 TV advert for new restaurant.
4:24 Review after the meal.
hahaha wtf amazing
Immaculately matched outfit as always. 👌 With the lab coat added I was getting serious 'Sarah Night Fever' vibes as well. 😁👍👍

I've never thought of how an owl sounds giving birth
I'm suitably informed now 😂
early morning upload nice! My days already better👍
The first car review in your new workshop is an American car. It's so cool.
Sarah, not only are you prettier than most, you are also brilliant and a joy to watch giving your test vehicles 🚗 the beans!
As always, an excellent and thorough review! Well done, Sarah!
Early Friday video at work! I'll take it!
Then you can get a solid 10% bump in powertrain output with the ford performance tune. Keeps the 36/60k warranty too.
I do think this looks really handsome! A nice refresh
5:51 Gentleman of culture, please take your note books out. We are learning about bolstering
👀🤔 📝 😏

I did enjoy the review, and I learned what an owl giving birth sounds like.
Thanks Sarah!🌻🐧
Ford finally changed the derpy grille!! 👏👏👏
I’ve got a 23 ST. All black. I love it. Mine has intelligent AWD. I dont think they offer that anymore. Only 2wd or AWD.
I don’t know if anybody has mentioned it with the exhaust being placed the way that it is. But for a number of years, the exhaust was coming into those vehicles and killing people and police officers. I believe that is their remedy to that.
Police officers are people, don’t know why the distinction was made…
@ because there’s distinct difference between pedestrians and people of service .
There have been no deaths reported due to the carbon monoxide issues that were on last gen Explorers. You're spreading false information.
They have the same type of exhaust tips on the Land Rover freelander we always take the piss when we get them in the workshop
Thank you Sarah 🙏 ❤
i have one of these. the Steeda suspension makes it better.
Love your reviews
My wife has the twin turbo v6 lincoln aviator and that thing hauls butt!
If you own one of these don't get frustrated when everyone in front of you slows down to exactly the speed limit. Know what you are getting into before buying.
Wow! that looks like a nice ride Sarah!
The down turned exhaust means that the exhaust tip will stay clean. Pretty cool.
There are several reasons for the down looking exhausts; people say it is because of the fumes, but noope it bernoulli's principle, the fact that fast moving air below the car helpsimprove the RAM effect (pressure waves due to the pull/push fule mix /exhaust reaching resonance in a certain engine rpm regime) on the engine decressing resistance to empty the cylinders

Proof of what you can expect on reliability from this brand when being brand new already has a foglight out (min) 4:08
Pretty sure its because of cornering lights, so they light up when you make a turn at low speeds
Really like these for what they are, excellent review!
Better than Car Wow.
I like this, I can see it getting purchased as practical clan transport and it becoming a cherished old go-to clunker .
I’ve got the 24 RT line I love it
Wait you mean the ST line? Serious question and sorry if it sounds mean but… why? They are almost as much as an ST but come with none of the performance options
Best auto reviews on Earth.😜❤️🇺🇸
We’re all star’s now…🤘🏻
A 2025 Ford Explorer reviewed by Sarah. Thanks ST!
You're prob hearing the piped in exhaust sounds through the speakers 😂
Merry Christmas ma'am!
I admire your professionalism! Your videos are always so high quality and interesting. Continue to please us with your works.🎲🌯🚛
Car tests from the right of the shop, Sarah will soon have a 50 car dealership lot space.
The exhaust tips are hilarious.

I had an Explorer i gave it the name Dora
Ford kinda started the whole sport SUV thing in the 1980s, then GMC came out with the Typhoon for a short run
I think Ford has some of the best seats with great bolstering and comfort.
You're looking so fresh 🤩
I believe the exhaust tips are so your chrome stays chrome and the black carbon build up is at the bottom. I could be wrong
I TOTALLY agree Sarah. Fire whoever did those exhaust tips... they failed to understand the mission. It's a bandaid for poor aero and cabin sealing.
My town cops all have these things. They much rather have the Crown Vic. I heard one officer say to another. Pretty hard stuffing 350 LB. 6'7" felons into those little things. Now you need t get your hands on the mustang GTD😆
Highly doubtful that’ll ever happen
This Exploder has Interesting Possibilities!!!
Fun review….again. Keep it up kiddo ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Please do a test of a 2025 Mini Countryman JCW?

Interesting
they should've called it "patroller"
That would be great!
For $45K out the door.
Who can afford $57K for a soccer mom mobile made of plastic?
I don’t get it.
So their 'Mande' in Chicago now, I always thought the Ford Explorer was made.

And the wheels on the previous years were cooler imo haha
Awesome review. Maybe the next vehic,e for my wife!
It’s a nice looking rig.
Sloped belt line on the Explorers looks terrible. Otherwise I might buy one. Previous gen looked better but was transverse engine, so a no-go.
Nice review.
We had a problem with carbon monoxide intrusion in the cabin, we the sheriff's exploders

It’s already generated a ton of comments, so I’m glad my auto correct is dumb lol
Great review👏👏 all i see is undercover copmobile😂
🤔Thinking of a Ford Mondeo/Fusion wagon with this underpinnings. Would be cool.
Like to have one to set my 53 Ford panel on!❤️👍 Unibody... That would be tough!
Just the Tip 😉

Another vehicle Rep Nancy Mace will never drive or sit in.
Paging Dr. Tuned 😊
Great review Sarah. I’m guessing this engine is the same as the engine in the Ranger Raptor?

0:07 "mande"?
Did I hear you correctly? Did you say the exhaust and turbos are one piece to the cylinder heads meaning if the turbos are bad or the exhaust manifolds are cracked or leaking you get a free cylinder head with your purchase!
No, manifolds are cast into the head. Not the turbo itself.
Ah... Finally, people who experience the fear of missing out have a corporation they can rally behind.
Owls lay eggs...
I wish this engine was in the Maverick lobo
Ford needs to bring the Everest to the states but they are probably affaid it will cut into Explorer and Bronco sales.
