Painfully miss all these old planes it just isn’t the same now as pre 2000 aviation so many more variants about back then, took them all for granted when I was just a kid
I was a five year old kid in 1969 at the Vancouver Airport and saw a Viscount takeoff 1:52 in Air Canada livery. I was so thrilled to almost relive it again watching this video.
Great Posting Robin - Thanks, that sound of the Darts takes me back to the 70's BMA Jersey Flights as a kid looking through the huge oval windows ! such a shame so many were scrapped and can't fly today ??I Can't believe will be 70 years this July, when G-AHRF the 630 prototype took off from the grass runway at Wisely, Surry and introduced the post war world to a fab British built sounding machine !!!! - well done Vickers !!!!
Ho man I miss that sound. The sight of these beautuful Viscounts on app to LBA right over my house. Cycling the 16 miles to watch them. Later seeing them when I worked at LBA. I was lucky enough to have flown on BMA's G-BMAT from LHR to LBA. Such beautiful aircraft, a real pity one wasn't preserved in flyable trim. Even taxyable. Many thanks for the memories.
G-BLOA…..Manx Ailines second ever fully liveried “ Manx Airlines” Viscount….and G-AOHM, their third ever fully liveried viscount….great to see , Thankyou 👍🇮🇲👌
Brilliant. I was working on Viscounts at Southend from 1995 until 1999. I was there in the hangar when HM arrived for 'cargo conversion'. I wish these days could be visited once more. My best days in aviation! It's all changed so much.
Glad I found your channel. Just finished watching the Viscount section. One of the great British aircraft of all time. What a beautiful noise especially when shutting down. All the best Mick.🇬🇧
Interesting video, but sad. A Great British aircraft bites the dust. The only times I have ever flown in an aircraft were in a viscount - Southend to Rotterdam and back again about 4 days later (1973). It was a British Midland viscount on a Clarkson's holidays charter. It was also the only time my mother went abroad in her entire life.
It is my understanding that a single Vickers Wellington was equipped with Dart turboprops as a testbed for the Viscount (this video gives me an idea what the Turbo Wellington sounded like)
The Rolls Royce Dart engines of the Viscount seem to produce a louder jet whine, than the Pratt & Whitney turboprop engines of the DeHaviland Dash-8. It seems that on the Viscount in these videos, I hardly hear the sound of the props. I only hear the engines. When a DeHaviland Dash-8 taxis in, I hear the whine of the jet engines, but I also hear the sound of the props. The props themselves produce your basic "box fan" sound in taxiing, and buzz like the wings of a bumblebee in takeoff and inflight. Inside the cabin of a Dash-8 airliner, I hear the bass hum that the props create at 1,500 RPM.
I remember in the 70s they had a airliner that you could put together in a box of cornflakes, I always wanted the viscount, lovely aircraft. Dose anyone remember that, or was it just a dream.
very sad but great that this footage exists. Very appreciative of your time putting it together. Any chance you have any Vanguard footage from this time period? There's precious little of it out there.
That's alright Robin, thought I'd ask if you'd ever got one of the Air Bridge ones on camera perhaps. The big sister to the venerable Viscount, with her own unique whine! Thanks again for all this great footage.

@@robinpinnock2678 hello my dear friend. I subscribed thanks. I live in Brazil (unfortunately) and last year I visit some RAF museums realized a great dream, duxford is amazing. Thanks by the channels and videos is really fantastic!
This might seem like a retarded question to those who know the answer, but when they taxi like that, only using 2 engines,do they have to alternate which 2 they use between flights to keep the engine hours similar?
No, the reason they shut them down is for fuel and noise. The reason they don't alternate is because each engine is the main driver of other critical systems. Certain engines don't run systems essential for taxi. Weird, I know. Hope that helps.

I started on 737_200s just missed the Vickers, lovely aircraft and brilliant sounds.
The sound of those RR Dart engines brings back memories. Excellent video thanks for sharing
Wonderful memories of wonderful aircraft, make sure you watch all the parts in order.

Remember my first flight was on a Viscount from Dublin to Le Bourget in 1962
Got to be one of the cleanest engine installations ever . Wales UK
thank you very much for capture such amazing sounds in the airfield ...an awsome and poetic video !
Definitely had to where hearing protection when those things rolled in. Bloody loud!!!!
Massive windows on the Viscount ! I flew round Scotland with my father on one of these .
david hunt Portholes or windows?

The only turboprop that sounds like a true jet!!
Must be powered by Rolls Royce Dart engines. They make tht sound

Wellington LN715 was tested with Darts. For two engine sound, try my Herald video. ruclips.net/video/VusFXMHpgl8/видео.html
@@robinpinnock2678 Only us, the British would fit turboprops to a tail dragging, fabric covered Wellington bomber
Es un muy bonito video de esos tiempos memorables. Felicitaciones.

Impending doom is right. Great video, sad ending.
My first flight was in a Capital Viscount on January 15, 1958 going to Chicago from Pittsburgh to Navy boot camp at Great Lakes, IL.
Jack Bennett
As was my first ever flight in an airliner.
Pittsburgh to DC....1961
Best aircraft ever made
Emblematic machine! Dart Music its unique

The dreary drone of the viscount landing...sound track to many british 60s films..
very sad but great that this footage exists. Very appreciative of your time putting it together. Any chance you have any Vanguard footage from this time period? There's precious little of it out there.
Ian Robertson, although I saw a Vanguard - or rather, a Merchantman, it was long before I had a video camera.

incognito james, Air Bridge Merchantman(s) were occasional visitors to Southend in the late 70-80s.

incognito james, part seven G-APEY and the VIP flight will be the end.
Ahh, so is the title "The Last Post" a pun the Parcelforce label?
A Royal Mail Viscount crashed near Uttoxeter (England) in the early 90's.
G-OHOT - briefly seen in part four, 'The Leaping Lion' - crashed in 1994 carrying parcels, but it was not in the Parcel Force fleet.
Your channel is a dream, congratulations. One day I ll realize my dream to know this airport. Someone of this acfts is flying yet?

hOW VERY SAD TO SEE SUCH AIRCRAFT NO LONGER FLYING... SAD INDEED.
Pity the viscount didn't visit manston on it's farewell flight
I swear I was listening to a Fokker 27.
Are any of these Ex-United ships?
The vast majority were ex BA, I think a couple were ex BM in the air ferries fleet as well.

Yes

Possibly a question no-one has asked before ..!

Twin engined aircraft, eg, F27, shut down the left engine on taxi because the passengers deplane from that side and it saves time and fuel.
