There isn't a whole lot to this Sonic fangame demo, but what is there is good from a gameplay perspective. Now the thing I like the most is the artstyle. The PS1/Saturn-like celshaded aesthetic is really pleasing on the eye and downright cool, clearly going for that Jet Set Radio vibe (which Sonic Storm, another cool Sonic fangame, also does).
I applogize if this video is... lacking for lack of a better word. Really didn't knew what to upload and I found Sonic Overdrive by complete accident. I am in a way a "Sonic content creator" but I often find difficulty making Sonic related videos without overthinking about how I am becoming a Sonic content farm channel (especially with the tryhard RUclips titles), hence the variety (weather it's forced or not) with other games. I know my main channel appeal and it feels disingenuous on my end to complain about it, because I do enjoy making Sonic videos, but I want my channel to be about all the games I enjoy, above all else, not just Sonic.
Anyways, cool Sonic fangame. Give it a try and support the dev.

You know, this almost reminds me of Sonic Storm
I still don't know how to get rid of that annoying white dot when using a gamepad in Roblox...
I honestly wish the best Sonic fan games weren't just Roblox these days. The controls are always shovels of ass
@@normalgraham there is a new sonic fangame called sonic stardust its super ambitious but its not finished
You can’t
You can't, it's basically the cursor of your controller
1. The music gives me big Mirror’s Edge vibes. And now I want a Sonic game with level design and a move set that’s inspired by Mirror’s Edge.
2. Really dig the cartoony low-poly aesthetic, and the limited animation works surprisingly well here too.
3. The level design shows a lot of promise, but we’ll have to wait and see how everything pans out.
4. The text box at the topmost platform of the greyboxed test level is really hard to read, especially with that bright background. Kinda wish the dev would either darken the background of the text box, or make the text itself a darker color.
Sonic should keep the parkour from lost world (could've been his characteristic compared to Tails flight and Knuckles' strength, gliding and climbing) without it being delegated to certain sections of level design (those parts in the boost games or frontiers when they allow you to suddenly wall jump or wall run) and instead they should design the levels around parkour.
Wall jump off walls from different angles like mario does in Mario 64, quickly scale up walls when homing attacking them directly (transfers your forward speed into vertical speed) or wall riding like in THPS and being able to switch between them like in Sonic Heroes/Shadow 05.
@@A_Person_64 Honestly, you could go even further than that.
For example, the Mirror’s Edge games let you grab onto hanging pipes and power cables and use them to zip-line across gaps between buildings. And I think we could expand upon that by doing three things…
1. Allow Sonic to use pipes/power cables as both zip-lines and grind rails via pressing a button.
2. Make it so that your speed when running transfers into the grind rail/zip-line when you grab hold of it.
3. Allow Sonic to transfer any speed gained from using a grind rail/zip-line into vertical momentum. (This can be done by swinging left and right, or by bouncing up and down trampoline-style.)
I have thought of giving one of the stage a mirror's edge type of atmosphere, tho it will be a facility of some sort so it might not be as noticeable as you think. About the sign, I just changed it, sorry it took so long, im doing my best lol
@@clearlynotmichael No worries. Game development takes a long-ass time, so I’m keeping my expectations tempered.
the art style is cool
Cool
reminds me of sonic storm but brighter
THIS IS ON ROBLOX?!
AWW HEGGS NAH I BETTER GET MY MIC!
Is this game released to the public?
yeah
I can’t find it
Try typing in Sonic Overdrive ALPHA in the Roblox search.
Also the direct link is in the description.
Gotta admit, Roblox games can look amazing with a proper hardware and connection
This roblox game looooooks really tasty
i found a glitch where you can fly by spamming jump dash and drop dash lol
Ha. Yeah the physics still need polish. Thankfully it's still an alpha, so any feedback (if the developer reads the comments here) is necessary.
its called stomping dash and im the first to name it
its not really a glitch, that is a feature, another reason why dropdash holds you down instead of keeping you upward
@@clearlynotmichael i wonder how he’ll design levels around that feature
@@mino000 think of it as a life saver type of thing, platforming with this “ability” just sounds quite terrible lol
