What is Periactin?

Periactin contains the active ingredient cyproheptadine, which is an anti-histamine used to relieve the symptoms of allergic reactions. Cyproheptadine is used in the cases of allergic reactions, such as hay fever and pet allergies, a more serious allergic reaction called angioneurotic oedema, chickenpox, as well as migraine and other similar types of headache.
Cyproheptadine works by preventing the actions of histamine -a hormone in the body that is released in response to certain allergens, such as pollen. Histamine is involved in producing inflammation and allergic responses when released.
