The one time Berdly does something selfless he dies... Yikes.
We also see Berdly tear off the plug the Queen grabs him by if you resolve that fight violently. He actually cripples his arm in the process. I don't think Berdly is supposed to be a bad person, he's just egotistical and a bit of an idiot (ok, he's kind of a massive idiot, albeit one that can apparently spell well). He can be downright heroic when it really matters.

Fun fact: Even if Kris dies in the beginning of the battle (I got them killed). The voice still forces Noelle to kill Berdly. We know based on the Act system in chapter 1 and the dance exchange in chapter 2 that when Kris is "dead" in a battle they cant give commands. So the thing controling Noelle did not need Kris

Ralsei vanishes. He doesn’t turn into dust. Remember that he is not a monster. The reason as to why he disappears is because we can consider his HP as an energy bar. He needs it to have a physical body outside of his own dark world. If his HP depletes then he’s just sent back to his kingdom.

From her sister missing, to her dad being sick in the hospital, to her very strict mother, and seemingly wanting to find an escape from it all, Toby knows how to write a character that can't catch a break. And her theme music has that nostalgic, yet melancholic sound, which describes her in the form of music perfectly.
I have got to wonder how Toby's going to treat the Snowgrave route in further chapters. I mean, I heard that Toby didn't want multiple endings this time, but here we are with [FROZEN CHICKEN] courtesy of [SIDE CHICK].

Berdly is a true chad amongst lads. He tries to protect Noelle, stands up to Kris, and has several redeeming moments in every route.
Not Kris.
He stands up to the player. Kris would want no part in this. If anything, this just makes him chucking out the soul more justifiable.

The smile in the final is not from kris is from the player and also you can hear a character talking sound when he is telling to use snow grave i think is kris trying to tell us to stop
And that is why on my first playthrough, I gave Berdly the Gift.
(And on my *ahem* second playthrough, I felt bad...for uh, turning him into a block of ice...)
@@l1ghtd3m0n3 Yeah, whoops. Gotta watch myself whenever I talk about Deltarune and who's doing what. Even so, it only makes Berdly more tragic in the Snowgrave roite, because even if he knocks out Kris, the player is still very much there, giving the orders to Noelle.
It’s sad, in the pacifist route BERDLY went through some really good character development and in the snowgrave route he fucking died-
To be fair, he did also start going through character development in this route, too, he just died before it could reach climax.

Kris fits Jakei's art style really well, though. Would love to see more Deltarune animations, even if they're just shorts like this.

It's heavily implied through other characters' dialogue that Kris doesn't want to do the Snowgrave route, and the player is just forcing them to do it.
Also of course, that doesn't change how good this animation is

The Soul has absolute control over Kris. If Kris had any agency at that moment, they would've most likely laid their weapon down, to avoid the fight taking place and to stop Noelle's corruption.
The Soul doesn't just give orders... it fully controls Kris, hence us players being able to control where they move and who they interact with. Kris doesn't want this... but the Soul makes them smile against their will.

yeah but its assuming the player influence is shown the same way as it is in undertale though here it would be the player taking over kris mind to manipluate and "order" others but cant make kris go full enocide like they could frisk and chara hence why the player needed to maniplate noel to do it for them

No, it get clear that Kris is doing it thinking that they can stop being controlled, Kris is cleary more independent in this chapter, he can even refuse things that we tell him to do

The Pain in Noelle's eyes and the Confusion in Berdly's make this all the more terrible.
Even if we already know what happens, we got to give props to Berdly.
He becomes selfless and changes his ways to try to rescue Noelle, because he doesn't want to have his friend held hostage.
On another route he electrocutes his arm so that he can stop fighting his friends. He's just up his own ass when it really doesn't matter, but when it does he drops the facade and gets serious.
He did the actual bare minimum for a friend. Incredible how low the standards have sunk.

This chapter only came out a week ago. And in that time, not only have people discovered the secret alternate route, but now someone’s made an entire animation based on that route. This community is truly incredible.

Christ, Noelle's expressions of pure despair when she's told to use Snowgrave over and over again really emphasize how agonizing it is to her. She's already mentally scarred by this point, now having to fight her friend... and she's being told to do something that she doesn't know the consequences of.

@@valbutreal That IS true, but the way she's saying "I don't know that spell" over and over implies that she doesn't know what exactly it'll do. Sure, she could guess that it's something dangerous, but she has no idea about just how lethal it is.
@@mikaelious9550 I'm not entirely convinced. By this point in the run Ice Shock was already freezing enemies solid in one hit. It should have been obvious that Snowgrave would be more brutal, so there's gotta be another explanation. We know that Noelle's mind goes blank when she panics (freezing the salesman and the mouse puzzle) so maybe the same thing happens when she gets mad? Like in a normal run when Berdly says he likes Susie and Noelle starts shaking him with a crazed look on her face. Maybe her mind went blank from anger and she didn't consider how brutal "snow" and "grave" together sounded.
@@larpagun I mean, on that note, I think it's safe to say that she's also panicking here. But yeah, you're right about her mind going blank. Maybe she can guess how dangerous the spell is, but just loses it for a moment there after everything she's gone through.
@@mikaelious9550 I think it's just an excuse for her not to use the spell, that was my first interpretation, but upon the player insisting for her to cast it, she ends up obliging knowing there is no way to avoid it and "what happens when I cast a spell I don't know" is just a reply from anger (and she refers to SnowGrave this way just because that is how she talked about it before).
@@Gwen_Hemoxia Yeah, that is a possibility too. And it'd kinda make sense too: if she DID know how deadly it was, surely she wouldn't want to use it.
Kris was disturbed by the route if Susie and Ralsei's reactions are anything to go by. Enough responsibility dodging: If a player did the Snowgrave Route, THEY are the ones who corrupted Noelle, not Kris. It's not that Kris is an innocent person and they're definitely a creepy kid who slashes tires, but they also didn't like seeing their childhood friend get turned into a murderer.
About the slashing tire thing...
Have you ever considered that they might have a legitimate reason for it? They sure went to a lot of trouble just to slash some tires...
yeah Kris's pranks usually are just things like flushing bath bombs down the toilet or eating an entire pie, harmless stuff. posting my theory down below the read more is that
Kris did it so that Toriel would call Undyne, and left the door open so that she would enter the dark world that Kris made in the living room.

They slashed yires so toriel called police (undyne) and they come to dark world so he befriends them

I like how during when "Kris" is telling Noelle to use Snowgrave, you can hear the normal voice-over for regular characters and not just Noelles voice. I like to think this is Kris telling us to stop as well, but it ultimately fails because their voice is too "quiet".
Other than that, the animation is amazing! You captured the moment and emotion so well! Amazing as always. :)

I really like how, when Kris/the player tells Noelle to use Snowgrave, the text for the choice flashes on screen, completely blocking out anything else, glitching and invading Noelle's mind. It's a visual representation of how it's taking over her, forcing her to do what it asks simply because it's such an overbearing voice. Poor Noelle...

Here's a thought. Maybe the reason Noell talked about "still hearing the voice" is because kris's SOUL is actually the cursor for battle menus meaning YOU are the bad voice in Kris's head too.

I think this route was the first instance in Deltarune that really displayed that your choices still have an impact just like they did in Undertale (I mean it makes sense it's an alternate timeline but still) HUGE jump from the impact your choices had in chapter one.
I think that toby means to tell players that ultimately, the same fate happens or something

Or rather, the entity telling you that at the beginning doesn't want you to know that
Berdly will probably end up sacrificing himself in the neutral route in a later chapter. The theme of Deltarune is that our choices won't matter. Berdly is the type to sacrifice himself for his friends at the first opportunity to prove his metal.
@@Knux5577 same, honestly. Your choices *do* matter to the people and events around you (hell, birdly is fucking dead because of you.), but it all leads to the same general ending. It may be mius a few characters or items, or everyone you love, but a prophecy is a prophecy. Kris will seal the fountain, and later on a new one will appear, wash rinse repeat. But no matter how singular the ending is, you still have those you have helped or spared by your side, and those who you've lost are absent.
That's my take though, it's just a theory. Maybe Toby really will do some crazy thing where everything really DOES change things in the end or something, idk.
Curious part is how Birdley goes back to normal if you 'fail' the route. Forgot to pick up the Thorn Ring, couldn't cast Snowgrave, couldn't exit the fight; even Ice shocking Birdley, he just goes back to his goofball self; "just looks exhausted", points out Noelle.
I've never really liked Noelle's portraits, but this single short has made my appreciation for the character grow by alot
Same, her normal sprite is cool but her portrait just felt odd.
Berdly only tried helping queen cuz she said she can make a new wolrd for them because noelle help him study and he got credit so he wanted to repay her

It's a great animation, and I really like it. But people are quick to shift blame. Kris didn't like this. It sickened them, and Noelle even comments that the voice commanding her isn't Kris. The player is the one calling the shots, *you're* calling the shots. Own up to it.
Same thing happened with Chara, they didn't destroy the underground, we did. We should accept that instead of blaming someone else.

There are actually a few things going around basically confirming that Kris's will is different from the Player's will. I think Kris would have a different reaction.
One thing I find strange is Kris ripping out his soul at the end of both chapters. Hell, at the end of chapter two, Kris ended up creating a dark fountain in the light world. So if their will is different, Kris's is probably more murderous while the Player's is more manipulative.

@@legitspaghettinoodle5589 we don’t know yet what kris’s intent is. It’s been strongly implied that the player is actually imposing emotional abuse on kris in how it forces them to act against their own will. Kris may not be an antagonist, just someone with goals that do not align with the player.
@@estergen So maybe based on how you complete the game, Kris will either comply with your will, or Kris will rip up your soul, leaving you powerless as far as containing Kris's behavior goes.

I really like the way Kris is portrayed in this, the way even he seems surprised that Snowgrave worked and then the next time you see his face he's come to terms with Noelle's true capabilities.
More like the Player through Kris, since we are the one controlling them.
Great animation that really captures the emotions on display. The cruel smile on Kris's face was particularly chilling, especially at the end; it's like the Soul is celebrating the destruction of *both* individuals or its complete domination of Noelle.
A wish for the future if you ever revisit the concept would be to include the scene that unfolds when Berdly successfully subdues Kris. Having Kris go down and Berdly breathe a sigh of relief, only to realise with mounting horror that Noelle is still under thrall, would be a nice little note of drama.

Honestly I have 2 characters, zero and dark, and I imagine a timeline where they find themselves the game, also in that timeline, in the snow-grave Route, noelle normally walks away, in this timeline, dark wont let her
(due to multiple reasons related to zero and dark which I won't go into as they have a slight ARG explaining them)
Dark ends up taking control over Noelle at the very end, whilst zero is stuck in a Cutscene, unable to stop dark from doing anything, and with Noelle, Dark would basically be mentally destroying her sanity... meanwhile in the scene where Susie enters Noelle's room it would play similarly to what was presumed to happen...
But what if Dark chose to do something? (If you want to give any ideas, then reply if you want to)
Please note this might be somewhat of a silly/stupid idea, I don't expect many people to care, but it was just a thing I imagined up and wanted to tell someone about it, yes it's unrelated to the comment, yes it doesn't matter, if you want to expand upon any details or ask questions about it, you can...
Toby definitely excelled in this chapter, it's simply FANTASTIC especially the Characters, I loved each one! I can't wait for the next chapters

I never actually realized it, but Noelle seems to be very insistant on not knowing SnowGrave. Most people would just repeat themselves, not change what they're saying. Considering she also successfully cast it, did Noelle already know of her ability to use SnowGrave?

She had it in her, she just didn't know she could do it
I saw once a cool theory, but don't remember who said it. In it, it was supposed that Noelle did use (when she was younger) Snowgrave (in a way or another) and passed out from it. It would be what would have caused the strongly implied death of her sister, and Asriel and Kris would have seen it, but were fortunately far enough to escape it. So, through Kris' knowledge of the existence of the spell, WE can force Noelle to use it. (also was supposed maybe that why the spell is called "Snowgrave", because of being snow related magic and having killed someone already. It would both be cool but sad if it was true)
I have this theory that she has trauma relating to that spell so her memory blocks it out. She just doesn't know that she knows it

Absolutely Magnificent! I could only think of two possible additions that would make this better:
Having Noelle actually Wearing the Thorn Ring, Even if it's only seen when she's casting Snowgrave, and maybe a little bit of blood oozing from where it's hurting her?
The other thing is when Kris gets downed in the fight, Berdly tries to encourage Noelle over to him, but she can still hear the SOUL telling her what to do.. That could add another juicy layer.

I don't think that Kris would be smiling, Kris is only a vessel with the burden of being controled by the player...There's a lot of evidence pointing that Kris don't even like that... like with Chara... but the player do.
You have to keep in mind that it's not Kris pushing Noelle to kill Berdly, but the player.

Correct. If the animation was true to the in-game lore, Kris should not be smiling. The SOUL controls what he does and says, but not what he feels -- and after this fight, he does not look happy, according to Susie and Ralsei.

I know a lot of people have their... let's say issues, with Berdly as a character, but I love him. He can be idiotic, and he can be egotistical at times, but he's also got a lot more to him. He's a kid who needs validation to feel like he's doing things right, and he can be selfless when he realizes his friends are in danger. Even if it's in his own stupid way, he does try to be a good person for those he's close with. I mean he puts his all into saving Noelle, and after becoming friends with the main trio he's willing to literally cripple his arm to help them. Honestly, one of my favorite characters.

I have to admit, i LOVED this Route it was a little scary and sad at the same time
The creepiest think about the snow grave route is that Kris is not making Noelle do anything, he's corrupting her morals so she does what she wants, he even said her thoughts about her killing him were "only natural" Kris is not abusive or murderous himself, his evil act is unchaining the darkness inside her and letting it loose, its funny how one can be an evil psychopathic murderer, but coldly and calmly manipulating other people into being that is even creepier
