This piece will always remind me of my mum - when I go off to university it'll be weird not hearing her piano playing every evening. I don't think having a silence away from the piano is something I'll be able to deal with very well.

Yes. He does. There's something inexplicable about mvts. I and III of this Sonatine. When I listen to them, I'm always struck by their ravishing beauty (like much of Ravel). However, this Sonatine seems to possess for me some quality that makes it sound as though it were written on another planet in another solar system. A colder planet. It seems divorced from human experience, and expresses instead some kind of nonhuman sensibility. Therein lies its peculiar beauty.

It's crazy how Ravel uses such little material to create an entire sonata movement. The descending forth motif that presents itself at the beginning can be found almost everywhere in the movement. This is similar to what Beethoven does in his sonatas, but with a more daring harmonic language, modal change in melody and a unique texture,Ravel represents neo-classicism.

Tribomb_TP it’s a franchise about high school students with ultimate talents (meaning they’re the best in their field at a high school level) being trapped in a closed school and the only way to escape is if they kill each other, and when someone kills another they must not be caught so they can “graduate” or leave the school while everyone else besides them dies. If they’re caught they’re “punished” aka executed. Danganronpa v3 is the fourth game in the series and the protagonist references this piece in the beginning of the game.

It's very Debussy-like in the fact that the usage of the pentatonic scale is very obvious. I find that Ravel was a master in harmonizing the pentatonic scale to hide its characteristics instead of out-right using it like Debussy did.

+Logan Perkins there's no orchestral version of this piece, ravel only wrote it for piano, however there are a few other arrengements by other people for different instruments. if you wonder what arrangements are available for specific pieces, there's a section over on imslp.org that list all arrangements and transcriptions that are in the public domain. they also of course provide free sheet music so it's a good site to know.
