I followed the instructions, including rinsing out the tank with soap and hot water and this totally worked for me. My tank was completed filled with thick rust and now it's super clean. (restoring a 1971 Yamaha CT-1 175cc)
I tried METAL RESCUE on my 2001 ZRX1200 that had been sitting for about 6 years in my climate controlled shop. Inside of tank looked pretty rough. I used a 1500psi electric pressure washer for less than a minute on the inside. I added the METAL RESCUE at 4pm on a warm ( 85 degrees) October afternoon (2020). I left it overnight and drained it out the next morning around 9am. I was SHOCKED !! The tank was perfect inside. I am very pleased with the results. THANKS for this video !!
Before adding any Metal Rescue™ to your gas tank we suggest cleaning the tank to remove as much of the rust and residue as possible. Dawn dishsoap will help in removing grease and "gunk" and the use of a pressure washer as you suggest (if you do not have a pressure washer visit a coin car wash that utilizes them) will help to dislodge and remove any flakey rust or material that may be in the gas tank. Best of luck and glad to see you bought enough to fill the tank completely - a smart move!
I must say Metal Rescue is an awesome product. I just used in on my 1970 Honda Z50 tank. Absolutely awesome results. just bought a 2nd gallon for future uses.
Just came across your channel from this video my Dad has a beautiful suzuki 250 sp red and blue its been sitting for quite awhile because he needs to still fix his busted tail light tool bag seat and I think heatshields since someone stole them and I believe his tank thing is odk how old goes 90 mph things awesome I really want to get it fixed at some point for him just to see his reaction💯💯
1) Final update: IT WORKS! Tank is spotless as far as I can inspect & nothing corroded or acid burned. Note to VTX ppl: immediately treat the wall & lip around the fuel port / cap area w/ rust prevention stuff to avoid flash rust from returning to pitted areas after final H2O rinse, then treat inside tank immediately w/ rust preventor sfuff after H2O is gone. Due to the design of my 5 gal VTX tank, particle removal was tideous. Remove petcock. See next post for particle removal process I used.
such a tank expert, DISTILLED WHITE VINEGAR works better than anything I have found in 50 years. Less than a buck a gallon. it takes a few hours, but White distilled vinegar is very gentle on your skin and metal tank, but harsh on rust and varnish. It will even clean the varnish out of a plastic tank in minutes, use a few nuts, bolts washers etc as agitators inside the vinegar in the tank and rock back and forth for about 10 minutes and the varnish pours right out. A final rinse with vinegar will verify the job when it pours back out clear. Lastly, put a little gasoline in the tank to rinse the vinegar residue out, slosh it around a bit and discard. the tank is now clean.
There are a ton ways to remove rust. Metal Rescue is the cleanest, safest, and easiest ways to do it! We compared Metal Rescue to white vinegar in an apples to apples comparison video. ruclips.net/video/FusxqHduvCE/видео.html Unlike vinegar, Metal Rescue is not an acid, and will not promote rust if left on or not neutralized! Check it out, and you can be the judge on which one works the best. Thanks for watching, please let us know if you have any other questions!
+Metal Rescue Rust Remover Bath from Workshop Hero...white vinegar works on par with this product but at a buck per gallon it's better value and for that fact, far superior!
Hi Sebastien, Metal Rescue pulls the rust off leaving the surface bare metal. It does not leave any type of coating on the metal. Your part is ready for the next step in your restoration, painting, welding, ect. If left unprotected, the rust will come back. If you aren't going use your de-rusted part right away, we suggest using our Dry Coat Rust Preventative. It dries to the touch without leaving any greasy residue, plus it will protect your part from rusting back for up to a year indoors.
I made a few mistakes on my first attempt to remove rust. First of all, I don't think I removed all of the oily debris from the tank, Secondly, I only used one gallon of rust remover, and sloshed it around. Thirdly, I did the treatment in my basement, which was colder. I started over again, and used 3 gallons instead of 1. I power washed the tank and dried it before starting. The results were AMAZING!! Fully restored tank.
That's great to hear!!! We are really happy to contacted us about it and gave it another shot! Metal Rescue is very easy to use, but as you found out, there are some things to keep in mind when using it. Thanks again!
@@joshuacruz4046 You have to always wash steel or stainless steel parts with phosphoric or citric acid, and then painting it, or keeping it away from moisture and filled with gasoline. Acids promote rusting. But phosphoric acid and citric acid do not promote further rust, they actually form a barrier on the steel called passivization and seals it.
Hi Chris -- Bryan is crazy in a mad man- "knows his stuff"-kind of way! When it comes to metal and working with metal Bryan Fuller is an expert and that is why we partner with him on our Workshop Hero products. Thanks for your comment and for watching the video.
Hey guys. Great video. On a tank with a fuel pump and sender unit, because it's non corrosive could you leave those parts in so they get a clean aswell? Thanks
Thanks for the update OneFabFisher! Glad to hear that Metal Rescue did the job! It sounds like your tank was heavily rusted. Please let us know if there is anything else we can help you with!
i plan on having the tank sandblasted and painted. should i do the metal rescue before or after that? how much dry coat is necessary for the rinse? how do you dispose of the used metal rescue and the left over dry coat (after the rinse)? how long after the dry coat should you wait before adding gas?
I just ordered a 5 gallon container from Amazon... they sell it for about $90 w/FREE Shipping.... Unfortunately for me I have a big 4.8 gal fuel tank... It makes sence to spend the extra $ and top it off rather than slosh around 2 gallons, I have had the bike since new for 21 years... gonna ride it until I die... thanks for the video, I hate using sealers... they are a pain!
Ha im soaking my tank in this right now but somehow just randomly stumbled upon this in the related videos.. Great product, it's working very well so far
I have an old 1973 Hodaka Motorcycle tank that is chrome outside. Will this stuff mess up any of the outside surface or stain it? I am assuming it will not hurt it, since it's water based. Just wanted your opinion. Thanks for the great video.
Hi moparmusclecars! Thanks for watching! You are right, because Metal Rescue is a water based rust remover, it will not harm any of the outside surface or stain your motorcycle gas tank. Metal Rescue only removes the rust. It's safe on paint, plastic, rubber, aluminum, and to the touch. Remember that it's reusable too! 1 Gallon of Metal Rescue will remove up to 1.5 pounds of rust. Please let us know if you have any other questions. You can leave a message here, or email us at anytime. info@workshophero.com
Okay, I did as u said, emptied gas completely, boiled 5 gal of water, put in my tank w/ some dawn, sloshed around, let sit for 3 hrs then drained completely. Pwr washed & drained completely, twice. Lots of rust flakes came out! Debris & water removed. Now, I am babysitting my tank at 72ºF ambient temp, indoors. Filled to the rim with 5 gal of Metal Rescue. This better work bcuz it was very expensive! VTX owners, don't pwr wash w/ pitcock intact due to delicate filter that extends into tank.
When I got my cx500 it’s tank had a mess of rust and decomposed tank liner spray, so I shook it up with lots of sharp and heavy little metal pieces, to shred out the hanging on pieces of the rubbery tank liner material, then I used Metal Saver on it and it did a great job, removed only rust and no extra metal. I put in inline fuel filter on it to be safe and its stayed clean
Hi Whatever it Takes, you are correct! Metal Rescue will pour super smooth if you hold it on it's side. It sounds like you have some experience with this method of pouring! Thanks for watching, please let us know if you have any other questions or comments.
Just seen video I have a 2006 zx6r that sat for 3 years and tank rusted inside. Do I have to remove fuel pump ? Being this bike is fuel injected it doesn’t have a petcock. Thanks
One Question... what is the best thing to use to remove old fuel/muck/varnish? Is dishsoap the thing to use? my tank is probably only lightly rusted. It has occasionally sat for periods of time but has always in a garage. I will probably skip the ball bearings and use a pressure washer... Thanks Rich
Hi shamanwako, Metal Rescue does not leave any type of coating behind on the metal. That being said, once you have de-rusted your gas tank you have a few options to keep the rust from coming back. 1.You can pour in some gas and swish it around the tank to soak up any residual water. 2. You can pour and swish around a gas/oil mix to coat the inside of the tank. 3. You can use our Dry Coat Rust Preventative spray, which when applied it prevents rust from coming back for up to a year!
Worked great for me and my Honda tank. Only problem is I bought the last gallon they had at the store. I had a bunch of short lengths of chain in my garage, so I put those in the tank to displace empty space in order to use less liquid, and shifted the tank around every six hours or so. Everthing came out nice.
Thank you for your interest in Metal Rescue™ Rust Remover Bath of the Workshop Hero™ line of products and thank you for your "creative" suggestion for cleaning out a gas tank as well! You are right on the money--we suggest thoroughly cleaning a gas tank BEFORE adding Metal Rescue™ to it, which allows the Metal Rescue™ to get straight to work on the rust without having to work its way through "gunk" first. If you can have a little fun (and a beer) in the process, we say all the better.
Will it remove vinyl coatings from inside a tank that has been previously sealed? I got an old harley roadking tank that the previous owner coated with the internal sealant and I would like to remove that crappy coating. Its already starting to flake. I don't seem to know how to remove it from inside the tank.
That's great to hear Nikolai! Thanks for letting us know how Metal Rescue worked for you! Be sure to follow us on Facebook, we are always running contests, and giveaways!
While we know how well Metal Rescue works, it is the testimonial of our customers that really speak to this product's effectiveness. Thanks for the feedback!
I used apple cider vinegar for 72 hours changing the vinegar every 24hours. I still had heavy rust coating the inside of my tank. I gave metal rescue a shot and after 24 hours there was nothing left. Not a bit of rust and one shiny tank. Awesome product. I'm restoring a 30 year old dirt bike so I filled up a bin with metal rescue and started dumping rusty parts in. Now I don't have to buy new screws, bolts and clamps. I'll be using this for all my rusty restorations.
Hello, We currently do not have anyone located in South Africa or close to it that carries Metal Rescue. You will have to order it through Motor State. Please contact them here. Rick Simpson, there are many ways to remove rust. Metal Rescue is the cleanest, safest and easiest way to do it! Metal Rescue is not an acid. That makes it safe on everything except rust! Thanks for watching, please let us know if you have any questions.
hey awesome video but i have one question after you put the metal rescue in the tank then let it sit for 24 hours or more then dump it can you rinse it out with water
I'm a blacksmith in South Carolina. I made some intricate scroll work for a job that got delayed. Now I have very rusty scroll work that needs cleaning. A lot of it. How can I get my hands on 30 - 50 gallons of this stuff ?
Update: My VTX tank has been soaking for around 4 hrs, I'm seeing the rust clear up! I did not think it had much rust but the pwr wash revealed a lot of debris at the bottom (where I can't see). The top of the tank (inside) didn't have much rust at all and whatever was there is now gone except for the wall of the fuel lip, which is submerged. The solution is still clear and clean. I'm turning my tank over to drench the lip & under wall. Wish HD gad 5 gal jug as I would've saved $35.00. SFSG.
I have an old honda motorcycle and was wondering if I keep it in there over my vacation wiche is a week will I get a better result and is it ok to keep it in there that long for a "maximized" result
Hi TJ-Thanks for contacting us! We wouldn't recommend keeping any metals in the Metal Rescue solution that long. Typically, even more severe rust is removed in 24 hours. Sometimes, based on the metal type and amount of rust an item needs to soak a couple of days, however, we wouldn't recommend leaving it in for an entire week. The things that can happen are: 1) it could darken the metal and 2) it could remove any paint that you want to remain. Because Metal Rescue works by wet contact, it may be necessary to slightly move the item in the solution to allow for all of the metal surface to come into direct contact with the metal. (ie. the bottom of the container where the metal touches the container). We hope this information helps. You can reach us at 800-365-1117 or info@workshophero.com Thank you for choosing Metal Rescue Rust Remover Bath.
The best way we find to clean a tank is to boil some water, pour it in the tank and add some dishwasher soap, (we use the brand dawn) you can even add some large nuts and bolts to knock some of the rust off. Let it soak in the soapy water for a few hours. Then use a power washer or a good hose to clean it out. Repeat if necessary. Once it's down to the bare rust, then use Metal Rescue to remove the rust. Please let us know if you have any other questions.
Hi! Bryan. After watching your demonstration video, I found that it's so interested me to work the same as your recommendation, but I have one question, after cleaning the fuel tank then what kind of Chemical or oil to protect the rust get back again as the fuel tank must be used for holding the gasoline for the motorcycle.
Hi Sok, this is Metal Rescue, Bryan does not monitor this video. We don't recommend any sealers or oils to prevent rust from the inside of your gas tank. We don't have a ton of experience restoring motorcycles, we are experts in rust removal though! Thanks for watching, sorry we couldn't be more helpful.
Sok, I woke suggest after rust removal process is complete. Fill tank with gas and add a fuel stabilizer if it will sit for period of time. Keep it topped off whenever possible if a daily driver.
Metal Rescue is not safe on magnesium and magnesium alloy. Everything else Metal Rescue is safe on, even your skin! Please let us know if you have any other questions. Thanks for watching!
Hello. We are not familiar with an electronic float. We do know that Metal Rescue is safe on everything except rust! That being said, if your electronic float can be submerged in a liquid, than it's more than likely safe to use with Metal Rescue. Thanks for the question, please let me know if you have any other questions.
Yes trialblazers2001, Metal Rescue Rust Remover Bath works great on chrome. Metal Rescue is safe on everything except rust. Let us know if you have any more questions.
Hi, I've got a sport's bike like tank, and what i'm having problems with is getting some kind of cork that closes the tank, without using the original tampon. Any ideas on how to do this? I would place plastic and hold it with a rubber band, but in this tank, there's no where to apply the rubber band. I hope my question was clear....I'm not sure. Can you please help?
Hi Antonio, we are not professional mechanics. We do however know a ton of people in the industry that are. Can you email your question to info@workshophero.com and we can ask some of our experts that we work with. Thanks for watching our video and I hope that we can get a solution to your problem.
Hi Alfie Brash, Yes Metal Rescue is reusable. 1 gallon of Metal Rescue will remove up to 1/2 pound of rust. The goal is to keep the solution's as clean as possible. You can filter it though a cheese cloth or a coffee filter to get the large rust particles out of it. You can visit our website and enter your zip code in the upper right hand corner to find a location near you that carries it. Thanks for watching and please let us know if you have any other questions about our products. www.workshophero.com/
Hello, Metal Rescue is not an acid, therefore it doesn't need to be neutralized and you don't have to worry about it promoting rust if left on. Also, Metal Rescue pulls the rust from the metal and does not etch the metal. We have noticed that on some cast iron pieces that were heavily rusted immediately start to flash rust after being rinsed off with water. All other metals have not flash rusted. In those cases, you are dealing with unprotected metal that will start to rust again depending on the temperature and humidity. Thanks for watching, please let us know if you have any other questions. You can get Dry Coat here (FREE SHIPPING) www.workshophero.com/product/dry-coat-rust-preventative-spray/
Hi Dion de kok, thanks for watching. We scrapped out the rust and filled the tank with some nuts and bolts to get some of the loose and flaky rust out of it. You do not have to get all of the rust out before using Metal Rescue, but it is a good idea to try and get the loose and flaky rust out. That way, the Metal Rescue is only removing the hard to get rust inside your tank. Please let us know if you have any more questions.
Hey, thanks for the question and watching the video! The best way to prevent getting a cruddy tank is always keep clean gas in your tank. If you are not going to use your bike for awhile, then add a solvent in with your gas. Did this answer your question?
Bryan, you are forgetting something. In the winter, you must keep your tank full of fuel. If you don't you will get condensate inside that will begin to cause the rusting at the areas that aren't bathed in fuel.
Hi colt ACP, rust removal times depend on the severity of the rust on your metal part. Metal Rescue can remove light rust in 20 minutes. Heavy rust takes longer but you can speed up that process by agitating Metal Rescue and or heating up the solution. Yes, the best part of Metal Rescue besides being reusable is that it is safe on everything except rust. Thanks for watching, please let us know if you have nay other questions.
metal rescue rust remover bath from workshop hero, yes my fuel tank on my VFR1000 was really thick with rust. one area so bad i never thought i would get it out but let it sit overnight and it was gone. i will have to try warming it up i didn't know heat helped the process. thanks for that info
Metal Rescue Rust Remover Bath from Workshop Hero, now it seems to be doing nothing at all. i put the tank on it's side let it sit all night checked on it in the morning and nothing changed the rust is still there. could it be the overnight temps? they have been around 50 to 55 degrees for the lows
Hi colt ACP, Metal Rescue works best at room temperature 68 degrees or above. Colder temps do slow down the rust removal process. Has the Metal Rescue darkened in color? If it has that's an indication of it working. If that's the case, keep letting it soak in one spot until the rust is gone from that area. After the rust is gone from that area, you can then rotate the tank to the other rusted areas. Also, Metal Rescue is not an acid, it will not eat through anything. Any barrier between Metal Rescue and the rust will prohibit Metal Rescue from working. Is your tank cleaned out of any grease, or varnish? Thanks for keeping us in the loop on this. Please let us know if you have any other questions or issues. Thanks.
Metal Rescue Rust Remover Bath from Workshop Hero, yes the solution is very dark. i run hot water and dawn soap through the tank to degrease it before i started the process. i will keep at it the rust is coming off it's just taking time. that is the reason i went with Metal Rescue no acid....thank you for the input and quick replies.
Ok. I have a motor that had a bad water pump on it. I replaced the water pump and tried to flush anything that is inside. Would It be a good idea to send this product into the radiator and run the motor???
Hello kakashi8148- yes, many customers have had great success with running Metal Rescue Rust Remover Bath through their cooling system. You can view a testimonial about this very thing at How to remove rust from an engine-Ken's Classics which is on our channel- Metal Rescue on RUclips. Please don't hesitate to contact us at 800-three six five-1117. - Workshop Hero
Metal Rescue™ from the Workshop Hero™ Awesome to hear this, I have a VFR engine that appears to have a lot of rust through the cooling channels, however the cases are also aluminum will there be any issues with this?
Sharpsdoublerifle Hi Sharpsdoublerifle , Metal Rescue is safe on aluminum. It's safe on all metals except for magnesium and magnesium alloy. Please let us know how it turns out! We would love to see some pictures! Thanks for watching!
Hi Joshua, No we just suggest a good power washing with some dish soap to get the loose and flaky rust out of the tank first. Also make sure to seal up any pin holes that may be present on the tank. Other than that, just fill it up and let it soak! Keep in mind that Metal Rescue is reusable, so when you are done, pour it back into it's container and use it on other rusty parts! Please let us know if you have any questions! You can email us here info@workshophero.com
To remove rust from inside gas tank,I put a few handfulls of sand and gravel in the tank. Then duct tape it to the rear wheel of my pickup that has rear end jacked up off the ground. Crank up truck, put it in gear and let the tank tumble for about 2 beers or half hour to clean.
Yes, Metal Rescue is safe on paint and clear coats. It's safe to the touch too! Keep in mind that the only thing Metal Rescue removes is the rust. Thanks for watching, please let us know if you have any other questions.
Hello, while Metal Rescue is safe on everything except rust, we would recommend painting the tank after using Metal Rescue. You should be able to work with an 8 oz. Dry Coat bottle after rinse and use enough to coat the inside. Workshop Hero products are biodegradable and can be disposed of in your lawn. For complete gas tank de-rusting instructions, please watch the entire video and use the link at the end to find the instructions on our website. Thanks for choosing Workshop Hero products!
+Yassine Ben Saida Yes. Keep in mind that Metal Rescue Rust Remover Bath is not an acid, so it will not eat through anything. Any barrier between Metal Rescue and the rust, will prevent Metal Rescue from working. Metal Rescue has to be in direct contact with the rust at all times in order for it to remove it. Thanks for watching, and please let us know if you have any other questions. Here is a link to our step by step instructions of removing rust from you gas tank. www.metalrescue.com/assets/pdf/Motorcyle%20Gas%20Tank-Workshop%20Hero%20White%20Paper.pdf
Have 2 quick questions. 1-I have a in tank fuel pump will metal rescue harm it in anyway? 2-So after the derusting process will there be flash rusting after i rinse with gasoline?
Hi Ghost Watts, To answer your questions: 1. NO, Metal Rescue will not harm your fuel pump. Metal Rescue only removes rust from metal, it is safe on everything except magnesium, or magnesium alloy. 2. Metal Rescue is not an acid, it pulls the rust from the metal and suspends it in the solution. What you are left with is bare metal because Metal Rescue does not leave any sort of residue on the metal. This leaves you the option to coat, paint, or protect your part from rust coming back. On most tanks, we don't see flash rust, the rust will come back if left untreated. We do make a rust preventative spray called Dry Coat, that dries to the touch in 30 minutes. Plus, like Metal Rescue, it's water based. It doesn't leave an oily greasy mess when applied. It's perfect for inside of gas tanks because it's water soluble. Here is a video about it. ruclips.net/video/niiVoVQB2Pg/видео.html Did we answer your questions? Thanks for watching, please let us know if you have any others.
Thanks. If i plan to fill the tank with gas after I de rust it.Will a rinse and swish with gas do the trick,Or will i need to dos omething else? If the gasoline swish will work lets say I fill the tank up completely and its allowed a week or so with just a half a tank whats the possibility of rust coming back up top were gas is not sitting?
Ghost Watts Yes, a rinse with gas will do the trick. Metal Rescue doesn't leave any sort of residue behind. The rust will come back at a rate dependent on climate and location. Keep in mind that it will be bare metal. You should look into our Dry Coat Rust Preventative Spray. It dries to the touch without leaving any sort of residue, and is water soluble, you can rinse it off with water. Perfect for storage, or in-process restorations. Here is a link to it: www.metalrescue.com/drycoat.aspx Thanks again, please let us know if you have any other questions.
Metal Rescue Rust Remover Bath is sold pre-mixed, diluting it in any way many render it ineffective. You can fill the cans you reference half way. Simpy process them on one side for 8 to 12 hours and rotate them to the other side for same amount of time. Visit our website at metalrescue com for additional information.
Sounds good. But how much is it per gallon? I have a 5 gallon tank. Or can I fill it half full, cap it, lay in one side for 24 hrs, flip it over to the other side and let it set for 24 more hrs. I have more time than money. What you think about that idea?
Hi Jeff, 1 gallon of Metal Rescue Rust Remover is $20-25 at Home Depot, or AutoZone. Yes you can fill it up half way for light to medium rust. Metal Rescue is reusable! 1 gallon will remove up to 1/2 pound of rust! Just make sure that you let Metal Rescue soak on the rusted area for a few hours before moving onto the next. Thanks for watching, please let us know if you have any other questions.
Metal Rescue Rust Remover Bath from Workshop Hero I wish it was that inexpensive. I tried MR, wwhen it cleaned the rust out of my tank, I created a leak in the tank. So I assume the rust was all the way through that littke part of the tank. There wasn't a hole per say, but it just weeped through the rusty spot. I inspected it closely. So Metal Rescue mist likely prevented a problem later with this spot rusting through later and possibly a fire if it happened to start leaking fuel while on the road.
Hi Jeff, wow, we are glad to hear that Metal Rescue prevented that! On the same hand, we are sorry to hear about your rusty tank. Yes, those are the prices for Metal Rescue gallons that are sold in the United States. You can also purchase a 5 gallon bucket here on Home Depot for around $100. www.homedepot.com/p/Workshop-Hero-5-Gal-Metal-Rescue-Rust-Remover-Bath-WH570295/204064974 Please let us know if you have any questions!
Hi Michael, Metal Rescue is only attracted iron oxide on metal. When you use a metal container, the metal can distract Metal Rescue from working on the iron oxide on your metal part. You will get the best results when you soak your part in a plastic container. On a side note, Metal Rescue will not harm any metals, the use of a plastic container to soak is only for the performance of the product. Does this make sense? Thanks for watching. Please let us know if you have any other questions.
Hello, no you don't. Metal Rescue is safe on everything except rust so you don't have to worry about it harming anything else on the bike. Just make sure that your petcock is closed so the Metal Rescue can soak inside the tank. Then just follow this videos step by step instructions and you should be good to go! Please let us know if you have any questions! Thanks for watching!
Hi Garson Robitics Academy, Yes it will. Metal Rescue will remove rust on all metals except for magnesium and magnesium alloy. Keep in mind that the only thing that Metal Rescue does is remove rust, it will not fix pitted metal. After your part is derusted, you will be left with bare metal. Also, keep in mind that Metal Rescue does not harm plastic, paint, and chrome. Thanks for watching, please let us know if you have any questions!
Hi Dylan, we don't know that exact model, but if it's metal and rusted, then the answer is yes! Just make sure to clean out any old liner or old gas/varnish. Metal Rescue is not an acid and will not eat through anything. Thanks for the question and thanks for watching!
Donovan Bryant hello, Yes, Metal Rescue will remove rust from any ferrous metal. Thanks for the question. Please let us know if you have any other questions.
I have a tank that sat with no cap out in the rain for over a year from a 1982 cm 450 and Ive filled it with vinegar 3 times I had it sit for 3 days and everything time I clean it out it's nasty rust but there's still rust in there vinegar ain't working
Help me please!!! I recently bought a 1982 Yamaha maxim 400xs dohc. Every time I try to start the motorcycle I have to connect the jumper cables and it usually starts but the motorcycle turns off as soon as I take the cables off or sometimes it stays running and after some time it dies. Do you think I need a new battery? Please help!!!
Hi ZEDVENTRUES, Great question! We will forward this question to some of our Workshop Hero Nation Aces and see if anyone of them could answer it. We are not the experts in motorcycle or car repair. We are experts on rust removal and prevention. Any question other than rust, we will send to our Workshop Hero Nation Aces, like Bryan Fuller here in the video. Thanks for watching!
We posted your question on our Facebook last week and got this response. We hope this helps out! "Check the battery at your local parts house. If battery checks out good check alternator voltage output."
Thank you for the suggestions but after riding a few times it seems like the problem fixed itself. I think it might've been a bad connection or something but thanks again.
barney boy Hello! Since this video has been released, we have changed our bottles to a newer squat shape bottle. A trick you can do is to tip the bottle on its side and pour that way. Thanks for watching, please let us know if you have any other questions!
Apparently white vinegar works pretty well, cheaper too I would guess. I've never had to bother, I've been lucky so far with my tanks but there may come a time when I need to give it a go.
Hi keepitrunning. Metal Rescue is different from vinegar because it is not an acid. You do not have to neutralize the tank after removing the rust. Also, Metal Rescue is reusable, you can remove up to a 1/2 pound of rust with only one gallon! When you are ready to try it, let us know if you have any questions! Thanks for watching and sharing our video!
Hello, no you do not have to remove your fuel pump. Metal Rescue will not harm it because it's not an acid! Thanks for the question. Please let us know if you have any others.
adorable deplorable acetone and drywall screws; you can buy a tin of Acetone at any auto parts store. Dump it in along with some screws, close the tank, shake it around for a while, voila. It will remove the lining, but any underlying rust will be exposed. Treat the rust and avoid using a tank sealer in the future.
If you are using your bike and are always going to be adding fresh gas then you are ok. If you are going to store your bike for a long period of time, use a gas stabilizer and mix it with some new gas to prevent the crud build up. You should like us on our Metal Rescue Rust Remover Bath Facebook, we always have questions that come up and we throw it out to the other gear heads on our page for some answers. Let me know if you have any other questions.
Dude, fantastic video! Your energy and engagement is awesome! You teach it very well and seem to have lots of fun as though we are friends - again awesome video! Will let you know how my project goes hopefully soon and thank you for posting!
+Metal Rescue Rust Remover Bath from Workshop Hero I have a great question. Maybe this can help others. I would like to purchase some metal rescue. But I have a 2005 Gsxr 1000. And as you know the fuel pump, float and other things that are inside my tank. Now I can take the tank off and pull out the important stuff inside and the plug the tank and pour some metal rescue in to it...or could I pour metal rescue inside without having to remove all that stuff?

Yes Mud Sh-sh-shark, there are a lot of alternatives to removing rust. Some are less expensive, some are more hazardous. Metal Rescue™ Rust Remover Bath is the safe, clean, and easy way to remove rust from your metal parts. Plus it's reusable, and easily disposed of. Because it's non-toxic, odorless, and safe to the touch, you could even remove rust inside your house! Thanks for watching our video.
It is not necessary to remove those rust particles before using Metal Rescue. We have heard using nuts and bolts and shaking them around will loosen up the rust, then we suggest spraying it out with a power washer or a high pressure hose. Thanks for watching, please let us know if you have any other questions.
Metal Rescue Rust Remover Bath from Workshop Hero the rust came out but is still inside of the tank I could hear it when I shake the tank I just can’t manage to remove it the way you showed on the napkin anything you could suggest to try and getting that out thanks for the quick response
I followed the instructions, including rinsing out the tank with soap and hot water and this totally worked for me. My tank was completed filled with thick rust and now it's super clean. (restoring a 1971 Yamaha CT-1 175cc)
Love the old Yamaha’s, got a couple blaster 200cc’s myself. Gonna try this process on an 84 Honda 200x that was neglected for a long time!
Thanks MR for the kind words! Please let us know if you have any questions!
This stuff is no joke, as long as you rinse out your tank it will easily get the job done. 10/10 recomend
We compared Metal Rescue to white vinegar in an apples to apples comparison video. ruclips.net/video/FusxqHduvCE/видео.html
Unlike vinegar, Metal Rescue is not an acid, and will not promote rust if left on or not neutralized!
Agree,,,,$25 for a gallon not happening ,,,,,Vinegar it is
I just did this myself in my own tank and it rusted again immediately straight after. I call bullshit.
I left it in the tank for three days and still had rust with vinegar.
Great vid man thanks wish we had this stuff in New zealand 🇳🇿
Hi Sebastien, Metal Rescue pulls the rust off leaving the surface bare metal. It does not leave any type of coating on the metal. Your part is ready for the next step in your restoration, painting, welding, ect. If left unprotected, the rust will come back. If you aren't going use your de-rusted part right away, we suggest using our Dry Coat Rust Preventative. It dries to the touch without leaving any greasy residue, plus it will protect your part from rusting back for up to a year indoors.
How long do you leave dry coat rust preventative on the tank for?
I vinegar to remove rust worked great but then after emptying it i rinse it with gasoline and it flash rust so quick
Ritalie thanks man I’ll check it out !
I'm in Canada is this the same product sold at Canadian Tire?
I just ordered a 5 gallon container from Amazon... they sell it for about $90 w/FREE Shipping.... Unfortunately for me I have a big 4.8 gal fuel tank... It makes sence to spend the extra $ and top it off rather than slosh around 2 gallons, I have had the bike since new for 21 years... gonna ride it until I die... thanks for the video, I hate using sealers... they are a pain!
Ha im soaking my tank in this right now but somehow just randomly stumbled upon this in the related videos.. Great product, it's working very well so far
SW(is)M that's great to hear! Let us know if you have any questions! Thanks for watching!
So glad to hear that! Please let us know of you ever have any questions! Thanks for watching.
What stop flash rust
Great video!
If you hold the jug on it's side and pour it flat, you wont get the surging "glug glug glug" and it pours out faster and super smooth.
Thanks
Nope! Metal Rescue won't harm the fuel pump so there's no reason to remove it.
One Question... what is the best thing to use to remove old fuel/muck/varnish? Is dishsoap the thing to use? my tank is probably only lightly rusted. It has occasionally sat for periods of time but has always in a garage. I will probably skip the ball bearings and use a pressure washer... Thanks Rich
is the dry-coat going to cause any problems when mixed with gas?
Thanks !! going to try this on our 2003 Xt225 Yamaha
Do y'all have any products to remove a tank sealer?
great information. will this work if old gas has been sitting in the tank too long and caused deposits? If not, what do you recommend for that?
I’m restoring a 1979 280zx. Looks like a 20 gallon tank, @ $25 a gallon this will be very expensive to fill to the brim. Any suggestions?
Vinegar. Buy in larger quantities. Works very well on rust with very little removal of base metal.
Thanks to you for the feedback!
So glad to hear the news and thanks for sharing it!
is this available in South Africa, I've got a rare tank that needs a lot of rust removal and treatment

I have a question. Will it damage fuel pumps inside motorcycle tanks? 2003 ZX6R
hey awesome video but i have one question after you put the metal rescue in the tank then let it sit for 24 hours or more then dump it can you rinse it out with water
I'm a blacksmith in South Carolina. I made some intricate scroll work for a job that got delayed. Now I have very rusty scroll work that needs cleaning. A lot of it. How can I get my hands on 30 - 50 gallons of this stuff ?
Where can I find metal rescue and is it expensive?
Update: My VTX tank has been soaking for around 4 hrs, I'm seeing the rust clear up! I did not think it had much rust but the pwr wash revealed a lot of debris at the bottom (where I can't see). The top of the tank (inside) didn't have much rust at all and whatever was there is now gone except for the wall of the fuel lip, which is submerged. The solution is still clear and clean. I'm turning my tank over to drench the lip & under wall. Wish HD gad 5 gal jug as I would've saved $35.00. SFSG.
Hey do y'all sell PB blaster hats?
What size steel balls work best? 5/32, 3/16, 7/32, ? Bigger, smaller?
To clarify my question above - What is the best methods to prevent getting a cruddy tank so removing/replacing doesn't have to be done?
Sok,
I woke suggest after rust removal process is complete. Fill tank with gas and add a fuel stabilizer if it will sit for period of time. Keep it topped off whenever possible if a daily driver.
@@iantgagnon I vinegar to remove rust worked great but then after emptying it i rinse it with gasoline and it flash rust so quick

Can you leave the float in the tank as well as the petcock? The float is an electronic float.
Hello. We are not familiar with an electronic float. We do know that Metal Rescue is safe on everything except rust! That being said, if your electronic float can be submerged in a liquid, than it's more than likely safe to use with Metal Rescue. Thanks for the question, please let me know if you have any other questions.

Does this stuff work on chrome parts without damaging the chrome?
Hi, I've got a sport's bike like tank, and what i'm having problems with is getting some kind of cork that closes the tank, without using the original tampon. Any ideas on how to do this? I would place plastic and hold it with a rubber band, but in this tank, there's no where to apply the rubber band. I hope my question was clear....I'm not sure. Can you please help?
Hi Antonio, we are not professional mechanics. We do however know a ton of people in the industry that are. Can you email your question to info@workshophero.com and we can ask some of our experts that we work with. Thanks for watching our video and I hope that we can get a solution to your problem.
how much does it cost?
Would the rust remover be more reusable if I filtered it after it was used?
Hi Alfie Brash, Yes Metal Rescue is reusable. 1 gallon of Metal Rescue will remove up to 1/2 pound of rust. The goal is to keep the solution's as clean as possible. You can filter it though a cheese cloth or a coffee filter to get the large rust particles out of it. You can visit our website and enter your zip code in the upper right hand corner to find a location near you that carries it. Thanks for watching and please let us know if you have any other questions about our products.

Do you have any dealer in Lebanon Middle East ? Do you think it can be used also on scuba diving rusted tank is it safe ?
No it will not be. It will be highly unsafe. If you cannot get your SCUBA tank professionally cleaned and tested destroy it and buy another.
Will it flash rust before adding the dry coat?
How did you get the pile of rust flakes out of the tank in the beginning? I hear some small pieces still clattering around in there.
Will it hurt my Electric pump and sending unit efi tank
Hey, thanks for the question and watching the video! The best way to prevent getting a cruddy tank is always keep clean gas in your tank. If you are not going to use your bike for awhile, then add a solvent in with your gas. Did this answer your question?
Bryan, you are forgetting something. In the winter, you must keep your tank full of fuel. If you don't you will get condensate inside that will begin to cause the rusting at the areas that aren't bathed in fuel.
it seems slow to work but works well and it's nice no worries about spilling it on your painted surfaces .

Would you recommending adding sand to the 24 hour solution and doing a bit of shaking as many of these other videos recommend?
Hi Joshua, No we just suggest a good power washing with some dish soap to get the loose and flaky rust out of the tank first. Also make sure to seal up any pin holes that may be present on the tank. Other than that, just fill it up and let it soak! Keep in mind that Metal Rescue is reusable, so when you are done, pour it back into it's container and use it on other rusty parts! Please let us know if you have any questions! You can email us here info@workshophero.com

Is this stuff safe on clearcoats and paint? I have a freshly painted tank and I'd hate to spill it and ruin my paint.

+itsjussjerry no Jerry you do not add water to Metal Rescue. It's ready to use. If you dilute Metal Rescue, It will not work.
Should i clean the gas tank with hot soupy water to get out the gas and oil?
+Yassine Ben Saida Yes. Keep in mind that Metal Rescue Rust Remover Bath is not an acid, so it will not eat through anything. Any barrier between Metal Rescue and the rust, will prevent Metal Rescue from working. Metal Rescue has to be in direct contact with the rust at all times in order for it to remove it. Have 2 quick questions.
1-I have a in tank fuel pump will metal rescue harm it in anyway?
2-So after the derusting process will there be flash rusting after i rinse with gasoline?
Hi Ghost Watts, To answer your questions:
Here is a video about it. ruclips.net/video/niiVoVQB2Pg/видео.html
Did we answer your questions?
Here is a link to it: www.metalrescue.com/drycoat.aspx

Hi, William Goslin, did you have a question?
🤔definitely using this but I see you only offer the 14oz concentrate and I have to mix with water to make a gallon?
the Concentrate is available at AutoZone. we also offer a ready-to-use gallon, which is available at The Home Depot. hope that helps!
Metal Rescue Rust Remover But the concentrate will make one gallon or more?
@@millermatic140 yep. you add one gallon of water to the concentrate.
Whats the benefits of a metal tank compared to a plastic tank?
Hi Michael, Metal Rescue is only attracted iron oxide on metal. When you use a metal container, the metal can distract Metal Rescue from working on the iron oxide on your metal part. You will get the best results when you soak your part in a plastic container. On a side note, Metal Rescue will not harm any metals, the use of a plastic container to soak is only for the performance of the product. Does this make sense? Thanks for watching. Please let us know if you have any other questions.
Do you have to remove gas tank? Can you do it with gas tank still attached
Thanks for watching!
so you wont have to worry about it flash rusting afterward? just rinse with gas, slap it back on the bike, fill it up and call it a day?
if you are going to let it sit, you'll want to coat it with something; otherwise you can just fill it up

Does it remove rust on chain, gears and pitted chrome?
Hi Garson Robitics Academy, Yes it will. Metal Rescue will remove rust on all metals except for magnesium and magnesium alloy. Keep in mind that the only thing that Metal Rescue does is remove rust, it will not fix pitted metal. After your part is derusted, you will be left with bare metal. Also, keep in mind that Metal Rescue does not harm plastic, paint, and chrome.

Hi Dylan, we don't know that exact model, but if it's metal and rusted, then the answer is yes! Just make sure to clean out any old liner or old gas/varnish. Metal Rescue is not an acid and will not eat through anything. Thanks for the question and thanks for watching!

ZEDVENTURES sounds like an electrical problem
We posted your question on our Facebook last week and got this response. We hope this helps out! "Check the battery at your local parts house. If battery checks out good check alternator voltage output."
Thank you for the suggestions but after riding a few times it seems like the problem fixed itself. I think it might've been a bad connection or something but thanks again.
Every cap I have bought has the peak at the front. Where can I buy one like yours that has the peak at the back? Thanks.
barney boy Hello! Since this video has been released, we have changed our bottles to a newer squat shape bottle. A trick you can do is to tip the bottle on its side and pour that way. Thanks for watching, please let us know if you have any other questions!
barney boy - peak at the front, peak at the back...nothing could keep your joke from flying right over his head.
check a buckman store
Is this stuff available in New Zealand?
Hi Zane, yes it is! You can pick up a jug at Mitre10 and Repco stores! Thanks for watching, please let us know if you have any questions!
What about flash rust? I've cleaned a tank several times and it is spotless inside. It sits for a few minutes and the rust is back.
I vinegar to remove rust worked great but then after emptying it i rinse it with gasoline and it flash rust so quick
Thanks for watching and sharing our video!
what about fuel pump .. do i have to remove it ???
Hello, no you do not have to remove your fuel pump. Metal Rescue will not harm it because it's not an acid! Thanks for the question. Please let us know if you have any others.
can you tell me what I use to get rid of a lining that is peeling off
adorable deplorable acetone and drywall screws; you can buy a tin of Acetone at any auto parts store.

And as you know the fuel pump, float and other things that are inside my tank. Now I can take the tank off and pull out the important stuff inside and the plug the tank and pour some metal rescue in to it...or could I pour metal rescue inside without having to remove all that stuff?
Metal Rescue is safe on everything except rust! You just want to make sure that there isn't any residual gas and or oil inside the pump, ect. Other than that, you are good to go! Thanks for watching, let us know if you have any other questions!

How can I remove the rust particles I hear them rattling but can’t get them out
It is not necessary to remove those rust particles before using Metal Rescue.
