I love this raw content. I never realized how much thought goes into the designs on these types of jigs. It’s nice to have someone to bounce ideas off! Thanks for sharing this Marc!
When I started watching this channel, I was just getting interested in making stuff with wood. It was before I got married. Now I'm gonna be 14 years married soon. And you consistently kept making videos. Although I don't make stuff with wood anymore, I'm still subbed to your channel and appreciate your consistency. Like having an old friend from the early days of RUclips.
One of the things I appreciate about you is your transparency. I always feel I can trust you as you always disclose sponsorship, admit to potential biases, and this video shows you're not afraid to disclose a bit of how the sausage gets made. I wish every RUclips content creator was as forthcoming. I don't begrudge anyone who has sponsors or gets free tools - that's how content creators have to make a living, and there is no shame in providing for your family - but with you I don't have to question whether your opinion is genuine or whether it is just an attempt to sell product for the sponsor. Thank you so much for having that integrity. Aside from all that, I found it fascinating to "be in the room" when ideas are getting bounced around - super interesting!
Thanks for the video. Design is the thing I struggle with most, I'll take all the help I can get. Also going back and watching your videos on setting up the new shop as I'm doing the same thing right now.
Enjoyed watching your process. As a detailed person I wish I had someone to bounce ideas off like this for my projects! My wife tries to humor me but just isn’t the same!
Great to see the design process take place in front of our eyes. I loved the way you guys bounced stuff of of each other. Also, I got a great lesson on Sketch-up. Thanks for sharing this with us. I'm like you and don't have to much design in me. something to do with the brain ?? kmdc in Oz
This was great. I would do some quick edits after you record to give context to the discussions you are having about the various sections you are working on. That might help folks understand the importance of various ideas, and how it will improve the project.
very cool watching the process of design. I was pulling my hair out however at Sketchup. Although he is very fast at Sketchup, if you did this parametrically in Fusion he could have just changed the parameters and made changes in seconds. Want a 1/2" top instead of 3/4" just type it into the parameter line. Thanks for the video though, 2 minds is definitely better than one.
The runner is a D shape the flat part Lays on the bottom the top half moon lays in a groove on the bottom of the sliding top when the 2 sides pull together they automatically square up as they pull tight and the lower dovetail is your slide the 1/4 20 bolt is in the center line of both parts. Both sides of the jig have registration marks via a glass window to show the straight line. I take it this is a jig to cut loose tennons holes.
Some one makes this type of tool Forget the cost. But Woodpeckers has an old desined tool like this and you can buy a panta router that Does more. Also a youtube post has one made with 2 sheets of lexan
Liking and commenting to get this man to 1 million subs! Been doing this for to long on RUclips and it to good of a channel to not reach that milestone!
I do like to see the design aspect of making a project and would like to see more like this. Thumbs up from this guy. About the Mortise Jig, it might be helpful to have a center line on the front clamping plate. That way if you have a 2-inch piece of wood that you want a mortise in the end you could just measure off that center line 1 inch and lock your fence in place. Would it work to have a ruler on each side of the top to indicate how far you are off of the clamping plate? If you want a mortise in the center of a piece of 2 inch stock then you could just make sure both sides are at 1 inch. Just a thought. I think that would eliminate the need for the little gauge block with the center line marked on it that you said would probably get lost.
Take an old radial arm saw and put a 3hp router motor where the sawblade motor was so it can change angles and move like a pin router or at any angle any direction Then you just clamp the work to the table you bassicly have no limits on mortice fir the loose tennon
In most cases that probably won’t help. The bit is surrounded by a guide bushing and that bushing is in a tight fitting base. The mortise is 3/4” below the base of the router in a 5/8” wide channel. There’s just not much opportunity for air flow.
This reminds me of when I am doing the online grocery shop with my mum. One guy whos knows what they're doing, and then some other human that never shuts up and is so demanding. Sheeeesh

This is great, thanks for sharing, It actually helps to see folks who've been at this a while still having to work to get their results!
That was totally awesome watching you two guys work out the bugs. Really would like to see more.
Thanks for having the courage to post even with your reservations. I (we) appreciate you, Marc.
This is Excellent Content. Raw is exactly what it is and I love it! need more of this

Great to see a peak behind the curtain. Helps me with the thought process.

Great stuff guys. Thanks for letting us listen in!
Little turny thing hooch ? You make me feel better about my inability to articulate most things I want to say ! lol I’m kidding! Great video Marc !
I liked this. For some things, it allows others to add their thoughts. It does allow people who buy plans to alter things to how they want to work.
Totally! Only the plans are free. 😉
Love seeing the raw process Marc.

I'm not even two minutes into the video and am loving it. The terminology is speaking to me

Whats interesting is the translation Marc goes through to explain the “devices” he is wanting to use in the build.
I think doing this is a great idea.🙂🙂
I enjoyed this upload! It was interesting to see how the two of you worked through the collaborative process. Thanks.
Must have started as a member only video I am assuming?
Very interesting to see your thought process and approach.
THANKS FOR A GREAT VIDEO
As a novice, I appreciate the insight

Thanks for the link to the priginal designer's video. I'd liek to have a crack at it without all of the matchfit hardware.
Cool stuff to see how the sausage is made 😊
Amazon has them called start from middle tape measure
Embed a center finder ruler into the top. That makes it easier to set both stops.
There are a fair amount of matchfit stl files floating around for those that want to have flexibility on the hardware.

This video thumbnail title trigger my internet PTSD from a decade ago. Took me awhile to work up the courage to click on it.

I watch PBS wood shows and interested in making a cnc from their instructions
👍👍👍👍👍
Dust collection on top at the router using an uncut bit.

I liked this. I totally get your cringe factor fear. But all good as a viewer. 2 thumbs up.
Micro jig, make a macro jig for 1/2” material. Is this thing on🎤🎤
Oops, my macro mistake. I meant make a smaller version 😂
No you always said the design piece was hard for you..never easy....

It's cute that you still let your mom buy groceries for you. I'm a momma's boy too. :)
