Just thought of a question. I'd love to see a video on decluttering things that were expensive but are difficult to sell. Crystal glasses, expensive jewelry, expensive coats etc.
I have seen many minimalists suggest things to make with the wedding dress, a pillow, a quilt, remake and take the bodice off and have finished to wear or the skirt to wear. There are probably many more ideas if you don't want to pack it away or give it away just yet. :) GREAT idea to think of what it would be like without the item and see how you'd feel! I need to implement that more!!
Thanks Shannon! Good video with a lot of useful tips. I ran into a lady who makes christening gowns for babies using the mother's wedding dress. I thought this was a great idea! That way you hold onto the memory of the dress and create a new one.I thought some of your viewers might appreciate this tip. See you on the next one.
Today I declutered my bedroom at my parents house and threw away so much stuff! It’s amazing the amount of things we keep just for “remind later”! I still have much more to do there. I am pretty minimalist in my house, just need to get ride of stuff there too!
I took digital photos and used the printer/copier for sentimental items I wanted to remember. I had 2 large bins down to 4 yearbooks and a shoe box. If you know family will give you gifts, explain you are highly simplifying and suggest a mutual activity or eat a meal together rather than a tangible item.
Shannon this is so interesting why we find it so hard to declutter sentimental objects. I’m watching Hoarders on RUclips and these people have an extremely difficult time getting rid of the smallest and most insignificant items. I realize they have psychological problems but when it comes to sentimental items we all do have some anxiety over letting things go. I’ve been going through a lot of my own personal belongings but still need to head down to our basement and go through boxes of things from years ago. Not really sure what I’m going to find. I feel very ready to do a big purge but hubby doesn’t feel the same. Hopefully I will inspire him when he sees how well I’m doing.😊
Great video. Thank you. Two things i have learnt from experience is NEVER to get rid of old diaries, even if you are tempted because you are moving on with your life, never do it because you might regret it and there’s no going back. And don’t buy storage boxes to store things you want to keep. They take up a lot of room, Bags take up less space.
I also got rid of my old diaries after I read through them. I didn't want to remember anything I had written in them and I definitely didn't want anyone else reading them. It is such a personal decision on what to keep and what to get rid of. I think my diaries were filled with negative things LOL, it felt awesome to throw that negativity away.
Shannon Torrens hi Shannon, yes i can understand that, somethings are best left in the past. I kept a diary from when i was ten until i was eighteen and i filled each page every night without fail. But now i would love to re-read the older diaries, if only to recall my childhood friends (it was a very long time ago) and holidays etc.
I finally decided that it was time for my China cabinet it collects things I didn’t need . At this stage in life which we are going to retire in 2 yrs I started downsizing a year ago with our clothes and things my grandmother gave me dishes (China) I loved them but now it’s not practical so...I’m so someone else can enjoy them as much as I did time to move on.
I decluttered my wedding dress. Gave it to emma and evan foundation. They turned the dress into outfits for stillborn babies to be buried in. Made the decision to get rid of the dress very easy.

Great video! I really like how you explained the "why" people grow attached to items. Makes decluttering easier. 🙂
Glad it was helpful!
I like the tip of using and displaying sentimental items, thanks for sharing!

Good ideas of what to do with items! Thank you for sharing.
I found it really empowering to donate my expensive gown and know it will make a less fortunate woman's day to find such a bargain.

Great video. I love decorating with my sentimental items, so I can see them. I also have 1 small box in my closet I keep.
Love that!

Hopefully he will get into the decluttering spirit when he sees how nice your place looks with more space. 😀
Shannon Torrens I hope so😊❤️🙏

Dana K White had that same jewelry box from her sentimental items in a video I watched about an hour ago. How ironic.
