Since he doesn't want to name the brand, I'm going to. The most accessible round-bottom induction wok brand is Nuwave, at around $150 with discounts. This one uses a regular outlet at 120V. Some commercial options exist (240V), costing $300-$1000.
I appreciate that you call it a jet burner, because so many of the burners I see on youtube look like they used to belong to an F-14 and were surplus out.
HACK- on a western gas range, remove the little top metal piece on the burner, make a tin foil volcano shape about 1 or 2 inch tall. BOOM- YOU NOW HAVE A FLAME ABOUT 6-8 INCHES TALL FOR WOK COOKING. look it up.
Sometimes someone comes up with a design that is really well thought out. Thank for introducing me to the curved induction burner! Now I just need a bigger kitchen...
Just a heads up, cast iron will leave a residue of carbon on the induction burner that's terribly difficult to remove. If you're careful, you can avoid damage from the weight of the wok but, that carbon layer affected my burner a lot.
@@TanukiOfficial To clarify, I'm talking about Cast Iron. Specifically, the cast iron bottoms. I often had the cast iron at higher temperatures. Maybe that's why it was so hard to remove. My stovetop was also older, that could have something to do with it. I just wanted to give people a heads up because induction stoves come with instructions on which pans are safe for your stove top.
@@aaaaghdoor6056 The carbon stuck to the stove kind of ruined that burner, it took a really long time to heat up. Just check your oven's manual to see which pans are safe for your burner.

We need a video on that retractable counter plug. This is all brilliant! And I want to marry you. Meanwhile, where can we get an induction hub for woks?
I've continued to use my old round bottom walk on my flat induction cooktop. It works just fine for practically any kind of cooking I do. No plans to change it
My wok has a 3.41 inch flat spot. The portable induction cooker I want to buy says I need at least 5" at the bottom of my cookware. I'm worried the induction will not detect the wok and will shut down every 60s. Is this not a problem with yours?
@@kb_100 I'm confident that your wok will work. Is there a place around where you live that you can try one out? I know the portable IKEA induction cookers work with a round bottom wok, & they are very affordable& an equal best rating with one of the Westinghouse ones, so a 3.4" wok would be fine.
I have this wok/hob combo, and once I got the hang of it, I get excellent results I could never get with my flat bottom wok on induction cooktop. My only complaint is the induction coil is VERY small at the bottom of the wok -- professional wok burners have a little auxiliary heat a bit further up the side of the wok. That wouldn't be such a big thing except the metal of the included wok is paper thin. I might ask the Asian market the next time I go if I could bring this little wok to see if I can match the curvature in a thicker walled wok to use with the hob.
Hi. What do you believe is the advantage of a thicker walled wok? I really like the lighter weight of the wok which comes with the hob. Is it a heat conductivity issue?
@@JDH3666 yes, the induction coil on this unit is very small -- Smaller than the smallest eye of my moderately priced induction cooktop. The very bottom of the wok is blazing hot, but centimeters away is stone cold. It would be nice to have a larger working hot zone, even if just a little.
@@kb_100 the flat bottom wok works fine, but I personally get better results on the stand-alone unit. Also, the base is designed for pan motion. Moving a pan around directly in contact with an expensive glass cooktop is not something I do!
My biggest issue with induction for woks when you're not buying a standalone is that even decent quality woks have a tendency to round out and not stay flat anymore so it becomes even harder to use. I think the best thing is a gas stove, and an assortment of induction burners.
Thank you for the video, really inspired me and I've watched all of your wok videos. Does anyone know where to buy one of these in the UK? I'm really struggling here. I've found one from a Pakistan company Chef King but it has very few reviews if any. I'm wondering if it's too niche or if its not my only option at home for best emulating wok cooking. Is it not also just as good to get a standalone has hob with a wok ring, or is induction that much better? It's 200 pounds so i need to be sure!
