The houses are owned and built by Nigerians. The Chinese don’t build houses in Nigeria. There are roads that were built by some foreign companies - Julius Berger, etc and some roads built by local contractors but most houses are built by Nigerian contractors.

It was initially used as a horse racing ground back then during Colonial era, called Lagos Race Course. This current edifice was constructed by the General Yakubu Gowon administration in 1972 and named after Nigeria's first Prime Minister, Sir Tafawa Balewa, who was murdered during the January 1966 coup d'état. It is also where Princess Alexandra representing the Queen, handed over Nigeria's constitution to Prime Minister, Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa on October 1st, 1960 to proclaim our independence. Shorn all those big houses are owned by Nigerians not Chinese. Foreigners rent from Nigerians. Most time the owners of the houses are abroad and the houses are managed by people who rent it as apartment. All the houses you see in Ikoyi, Victoria Island, Lekki etc are owned by Nigerians.
