    I'm fascinated by these small, compact-sized radios. I have a set of Baofeng BF-T20 and GT-22's, which are identical. Same inards. There are multiple identical variations of these units that companies have just attached their label to -- I assume all Chinese. In any event, finding these on sale in pairs for $20-$22 is a steal, as the near 2-watts of power will reach quite a distance. Of course I'm still new to amateur radio, and am only comparing them to the toy walkie-talkie sets we had as kids (Archer) that wouldn't even reach to the nextdoor neighbor's house..
    I haven't quite got up the nerve to attempt your modification, but at some point I will. I'd love to attach my Nagoya NA-771 antenna and see how it'd perform. Very informative video, I could watch these type of radio surgeries all day long. Thank you..

    I think 1.87 watts is normal power for that kind of radio. You cannot go beyond 2 watts at 3.7 volts battery pack. Depending on the RF transistor installed, typically a full 5 watt radio runs at 7.2 volts (8 volts at most), 2.5 watts when you put it on low power.

    I wonder if the impedance at the antenna is not 50 Ohms but is in fact the conjugate of the antenna impedance? That could explain the low power. They might have tweeked the output filter so that it produces maximum radiated field indicating a match to the actual antenna feed point impedance. Somehow I doubt that spiral antenna is 50 Ohms.

    According to the specifications, these radios are 2W. Maybe it shows 1.8W due to the signal loss in the RF cable and connectors ???

    What's the frequency span of the different channels and if they're significantly spread does the power out vary? Looked like there was a speaker/mic jack on the side where you could get the audio for the SINAD test.

    Have you measured the power on 433MHz?
    Probably will give more power to the HAM frequencies?
