Dwight D Eisenhower warned us of where we would be in our society if things continued the way military defense contractors wanted. "In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist. We must never let the weight of this combination endanger our liberties or democratic processes. We should take nothing for granted. Only an alert and knowledgeable citizenry can compel the proper meshing of the huge industrial and military machinery of defense with our peaceful methods and goals so that security and liberty may prosper together."
You can’t go wrong listening to ANY George Carlin video. People think of him as a comedian but he wasn’t. He was philosophical in a humorous way. Even when he started his stand up routine back in the 1960s, what he said still holds true today

This is gonna sound like a conspiracy theory, but stay with me. When I was getting my teaching degree, they taught us that the state looks at reading levels of kids finishing second grade so they can predict how much room they’ll need in prisons in a decade. That was in a damn textbook like it wasn’t the most horrifying statement on the planet. Keeping citizens dumb doesn’t just help to control them. It helps to enslave them in prisons. Look up the percentage of things produced by inmates. And while we’re at it, look at the racial populations of US prisons. Keep a portion of the population just educated enough to keep things running and condemn the rest to a destiny of prison labor when they’re not even ten years old.
The public education system in this country was taken from Prussia back in the day. It’s called “nation-building.” Not only can you teach kids to respect authority, and ask permission when they want to speak, but you can have them pledging their allegiance to America and you can teach them the history you want them to learn. Education is secondary. They want you to learn enough to have a job, because tax paying workers pay politicians and consumers pay corporations. You can’t keep the rich being rich if you don’t have a job. That’s why it’s illegal to be homeless. Some countries use the “stick” but the US is so good at using the “carrot” that not only will the people allow the government to rob them, but they’ll defend the people robbing them. People want to change this or that. We lost. A long time ago. Left, Right, Red, Blue, whatever… it doesn’t matter. You know why there is a two party system? Choice? Nope. It’s so the Democrats will blame the Republicans and the Republicans will blame the Democrats for everything going wrong in the country. They want you to turn on your neighbor. Divide and conquer. The oldest trick in the book. We fight among each other and never blame the system in place. They don’t care either. As long as they can keep us working, buying stuff, signing up for war, and going to prison. That’s all America is to them.

Perhaps too generous but I mean, even they don't have to worry where their next meal comes from.

This didn't age. It matured like a fine wine. I graduated 06, I can still remember back in middle school, when our district couldn't score high enough on the Standard testing. Funding for the entire district got pulled. I remember our teachers talking about it clear as day. In high school we were learning out of text books that were over 30 years old. In a school that was extremely overcrowded (3 cafeterias, and three lunch periods and still you had to fight to find a seat, sometimes literally.). Classes were a joke, teachers didn't care even then (likely from crap salaries.) Constant fights. Several stabbings. Graduation was a great day, finally got out of there... The state our country is in now is even worse. Not only in the schools, but the social climate and other factors as well. Here's to hoping something gives soon, cause the outlook is bleak..
Something to consider is those who are rich are richer than ever. It’s to the point that it’s resulting in them getting half of the money that enters the market on an annual basis. This will naturally make the prices of originally cheaper commodities and needs more expensive as companies don’t get as much cash flow as before. That’s why there can’t be many companies that are even a smidge like a monopoly. Whether it’s deserved or not, it just screws up the market. The prices for that good is cheaper, but everything else is more expensive, and people get payed less. Not everyone can be rich because there’s only so much money at any given time, and with the big companies we have today, a lot of that money is already a lost cause for 99% of the population and the rest either also goes to the companies at a certain point or gets badly distributed among the rest of the population.
Liberalism enslaved masses for the benefit of a select few, it was kept under check with a centrally planned global economy, which we call Bretton & Woods And with Thatcher and Reagan, came the neo-liberalism. Which is a technical term for pushing the same old lies that were thrown out for bening disproven. As a person near my 40's I work with younger 20's people who already see their generation and society being dumbed down. Most of that is not the curriculum but inability of the people being taught to understand why it is being taught.
7:45 -- Munfu realizing Cardinal Carlin is preaching to your soul ... George Carlin Goes All In. He kept it real ... He tried to tell us "How it is" and "Where the problems are" ... it's not his fault we didn't listen.
In the 80's most schools changed the grading system, where an "A" is what used to be a "C". 30% of "graduates" today can't read or do math at grade level. Cany couldn't understand the graduation certificate even of they could read it, and it's all by design.
you have to redefine "success" to get away from the "he who dies with the most stuff wins" mentality. If everyone could be happy with a roof and food, we could do that. The way it is now we need the top executives (to build the companies that build our cars and TVs) and you need line workers to actually build the stuff, pump the gas and clean the floors. Its difficult though because this system also pushes us to create and explore, driving innovation. War has driven so many inventions we all take for granted now... Same goes for the space programs out there. The Apollo missions gave us the dust buster, thermal blankets, better cameras, bridge shock absorbers, the fireproof materials firefighters wear, vacuum sealed food, shock absorbing footwear and more. We could all be happy without the huge differences in the distribution of wealth but we'd be less comfortable for our much shorter lives.
I saw Carlin concerts 14 times. Over the years he's only been about 85% correct. Being successful is up to the individual. Even government can't fix stupid or lazy.
Munfu, About half way through you've paused to comment on how you think kids are or aren't better educated over there. From an outside view, I think you've mostly got it. You really nailed it by saying "I think their focus has changed". I think the focus has changed because my generation was taught according to how things worked then. Today's kids are being taught according to how things are today. It'll be a bit different for the next generation, and again for the generation after that, ad infinitum. Rating someone's intelligence level should therefore only be done by others of the same generation.
The ladie host was born in 1991 & the male host was born in 1992!! This man said that he graduated from high school in 2010, that would have been the year that he turned 18 years old!!
What George means about education is that it doesn't really matter. The enthusiasm to LEARN rather than just doing drugs, eating and buying shit is the problem. I person can go to the library or the internet to learn things if he / she has the enthusiasm / drive to do so. However the mindset of current day society is not endorsing that behavior. You have to leave the pack to become that person these days.

Carlin was, is, and will always be the best,
