  • In this video, I take an old static/ glass LCD and work out the mapping of the segment and common pins. If you have a junk drawer with loads of old bespoke LCD's then you probably won't find a datasheet - so you have to work it out yourself.
It's worth taking a look at the EEVBlog video below where Dave gives a great talk on how to (and how not to) drive an LCD.

I have a question, no matter between which pins I apply a voltage, several segments light up at the same time, this means more complex multiplexing? Is this still possible to map? Thank you so much@@athousandprojects

      Hi,
This was filmed a few years ago, so don't have the consumption but these LCD displays draw very little - usually in the uA range

Hello, I was watching your videos and I wanted to know if you can replace an lcd of a radio transmitter because its lcd is smeared and I can't find an answer, the model is Yaesus Systen 600 and I ask, can the change be made for something more up-to-date? ??

      Hi,
You would have to find an exact replacement as the LCD layout will be specific for that transmitter. It also depends on the internals, but if you were to replace it with something more up to date, you would need a new display driver and certainly need to alter the code base to drive it - I'm not sure how possible that would be - if at all possible would be a hard bit of work.
It does have a great service manual though www.radiomanual.info/schemi/YAESU_HF/FT-600_serv.pdf
The best is to look for a spare LCD part on eBay or radio ham groups- or buy a broken one with a good display and swap it out. Or get hold of the manufacturer and see if they have spare parts. www.yaesu.com/
Good luck and let me know if you have any success

Nobody has pointed out yet that this video is completely silent until the last couple of seconds.

Hmm - I just checked and there is audio from the beginning. Might have been a RUclips Glitch?
