- Five people have now been confirmed dead, 24 have been rescued, while 51 others remain trapped after a multi-storey building collapsed in George. Over 17 hours after the structure caved in, emergency personnel are still on site , frantically searching for survivors. They are being helped by crews from other municipalities. It's still not clear what led to the collapse , but investigations are underway. Newzroom Afrika's Sipha Kema has more.

As an Architect. I can confirm that we might be hearing more and more of this as Project Managers keep compromising building standards by constraining building budgets, reducing construction timelines and exercising authority over qualified engineers and architects.
The structural engineer made big mistake by cutting measures on all load bearing sections, further cutting slab measures and the construction developers together with the investors and the municipal inspector should be held responsible
@@abdushakoorjamalmokalane1719 that sounds odd to me, was the Engineer a reputable engineer or was it a novice. Usually engineers over specify those things, unless pressured by the design team.
Let’s wait for the outcome of the investigation
Poor reporting. Poor building construction. Poor public services. Poor country. Poor citizens. Rich government officials.
Name the company you will not sweep this under the rug!!
It must be under the DA. I’m glad it is not part of ANC cadre deployment
This is very sad to see, and thoughts go out to those workers under the rubble and the ones that managed to escape and their families.
Cutting building cost must be a BEE company / project no need for standards/ bribed councillors .
We all know this, can someone take a picture of the construction board.
Its very clear this is a load bearing issues which lead to the collapse of the building, why did the structural engineer and the developer cut measures
Structural engineering is not a game, all measures of load bearing sections and slab sections were cut and and the municipal inspector took a bribe, this building collapsed because of load bearing issues
Tragic ....
Building collapsed in Verulam,Kzn.
Building burnt in Jhb cbd
Authorities stated ...
No stone will be left unturned to
"Bring those to book" and up to now, no persons have been prosecuted.
I guess the same will happen here too.
My uncle is trapped in there may god save him❤😢
Very sad for everybody involved.
BEEE is catching up with the cadres first its ESKOM now the sivil engineering whats next?. ANC for a better future??God bles those that are hurt is this event it is sad and terrable.GET rid of BEEE and get the right engineers.
I despise the ANC but how do they fit in there . Isn't George under DA leadership
@@mosalethoba5267Anc must go an the tender by race policy . You people don't understand how this country is run . The western cape might be controling the province. But the national government has the last say in everything. That's why the DA wanted a vote for more autonomy.
@@revolutionnow5227 more like secession ain't it? Alright I really would like to know how is this building collapsing links with the ANC ?
Tenderpreneurs don't need to know how, just who would do the job for half price
Thoughts with the workers and their families.

Agree
Keyboard Engineers everywhere🙄
WHY SO MUCH SAND ON THAT SITE. DIDNT THEY USE CEMENT ?
Sand is used extensively in the building process, usually mixed with other ingredients to make cement or concrete, or for compacting. Its very common to have a lot of sand on sites.
Some of these comments, YIKES!! Please turn them off @Newzroom Afrika
This is sad 😢
I wonder what was the reason for this incident...
Cheap labours services.
Cheap materials ..
FFS get coherent, intelligible reporters! Why use one word when 2 will do???!!!!
Every construction today is tenderpreneurship n this tenders are awarded through corruption, the contractor must face the music
Remember not too long ago when South Africa was with Hamas?
Where does that fit in?
so what has THAT got to do with THIS?
Jesus is coming soon
black business construction mafia is probably the culprit. that and construction company leadership.
