You can adjust the contrast on the Tamasuku:
Setting Contrast:
Press "B" to go to the clock screen, than press the Up Arrow and the Down Arrow at the same time. Use the left and right arrows to adjust the contrast. The further to the right gets darker and the further to the left gets lighter. Press "B" to save your settings.
is there any option to turn the sound off?

To do this, press the Up Arrow and the Down Arrow and the Cancel Button ("C") at the same time. To turn the sound off select the bottom option. To turn the sound on select the top option.

Wondering if anyone can tell me what the biggest consequences are of not taking care of this virtual pet. I understand it doesn’t die but your school‘s popularity decreases. How far does it decrease and what happens if you completely lose the game? I really enjoy games where the pets die or leave you but want to make sure I know what I’m getting into if I buy one of these.
do you recommend learning some Japanese so you can read the Japanese on the tamagotchi?
Yeah, it would be helpful. Just simple stuff like kana so you can read it and look it up in an online dictionary like jisho
