hi, probably that HDMI adapter is one direction adapter (converts hdmi -> analog), you need two directions HDMI adapter (hdmi -> analog, and analog -> hdmi, which is your case)
i love to see your reactions when you fix something, every single time its like it never gets old for you, i know the feelings very well :) im glad to see you are one of those people that takes pride in what you do and no matter how many times you have repaired things, you always feel so rewarded, i really love what you do alex and thank you for all your help

It's a nice family where everyone has a role to play. Part of this channel's success is the family stories he shares with us now and then.
I just saw that your problem with the flir camera is that you have an audio cable not a video cable because video is yellow colour and audio left and right are red and white so you need a cable with yellow plug
Check the signal coming out of the Flir camera. Direct connection to the micro USB connection to display on your laptop. You have to take the HDMI box to NorthridgeFix to repair it. Make a great video for us. Good luck my friend.
Hey ! You can show us the heat spot with little bit of alcohol on the defective components, so that the alcohol evaporate and we can see that on camera. Love your video btw, keep it up !
Great Job. Sir may I ask you a question. The cap is bad. You removed it and lapi started working. But by experience what would be the closest cap that can be close to that cap value that can be replace if we unable to get donor board of in the market. Please help. ...thanks. .
Another great video - thankyou for sharing! I often notice the oscilloscope on the shelf behind you but I haven't seen you use it yet - what sort of jobs do you use it for? Any chance you could do one on camera? Many thanks from Australia.
@@harrison00xXx Elitebooks/Desktops and Z Workstations are still a different matter but basically the whole consumer portfolio of HP is produced to the lowest specs and should be avoided.
Sad, really… HP used to make such nice stuff. I’ve still got an HP48sx graphing calculator that has been dropped numerous times, including in the mud, and has been driven over by a backhoe, and still works.
spitefulwar Desktops are not much better... at least the few tests/teardowns i saw from HP prebuilts But to be fair, at least they are much better than overpriced/overhyped Dell and co, so the competition is also very weak
What type of connection output is on the thermal camera ? also I saw you connect a white and red cable I’m assuming the red is audio and the white is video? What’s the make and model of the thermal camera
THANKS ALEX, I learned today one of the many things to look for when a laptop does'nt power up.Look for a cap that is shorted.Could you tell us what diode mode means to the layman,is that the same as ohms? after you removed it ,then checked it ,you taught me what to look for {it should have a lot of resistance or not be connected straight through>} now I'm going to check some old non working old laptops i have to see if i have that right, thanks for that info,i think i just learned that today.
Regarding to the video converter. Make sure that you ordered ( Input is RCA to the output HDMI). Because if you ordered the reverse device with ( I/P-HDMI to O/P-RCA) its won't work.
I knew this, because I had the same issue when I was looking for an HDMI to DP converter 😅. Thanks for your reply it's my pleasure to receive a massege from you 🌹.
Try a new hdmi cable .they do go out .I had the same issue with a blu-ray player that it came with it .they said it wouldn't show picture .I changed the hdmi cable and worked perfectly
I’m sorry you can’t get the connection from the IR camera to the monitor working, but it’s slightly encouraging to see that even people who know much much more about connecting av equipment than I do still sometimes just can’t get the f#%^ing things to work
Hi, my laptop is very similar and has exactly the same faulty capacitor (and also another faulty one). If I was to replace to the capacitor, what value capacitor would I use?
In power supply almost all of the on led ground caps are for filtering. But in analogue electronics we have different purposes like to create wave form etc.
I have the same adapter and same issue happen. I noticed that there is a USB mini B on the side of the adapter just give it power of 5volts with 0.1a and it will work.
The brightness on the laptop is dim than the brightness on your face when you succeed on repairing it. Your smile brightens up our day too. Lots of love from India :)
Can you or someone explain the multimeter diode mode, like when you check the capacitor 6:45, it beebs twice and you know its a short? Is it working if the meter doesnt beeb or how does that work?
BTW. Have you plugged that HDMI cable to another source to make sure the switcher is working? and have you plugged the FLIR cam to another screen? it would be great to determine the source of the problem.
The filtering capacitors are used to filter noise from the power which is induced by the environment and other electronic devices. So if the power has very negligible of noise it can be turned. But we don't all of the users will have that type of environment and power sources. So safety purposes we should replace those caps. The values of the caps are mentioned in the chip's data (which is next to the cap )
When you look at the datasheets for ics the manufature recomends that they are added to ensure that the ic will work as intended otherwise they caution that the ic could maufuction. So basically it is up to you if you want to add them or not but you have be warned by the manufacturers that its not there fault if the chip does produce errors.
I actually wanna more video I just love a lot, I'm sorry if I'm being greedy I know it mean more editing for you and that's time you don't have. So I think it's time that you consider live videos, you ou can at least try. I'm sure you will find a lot of support cuz you have an amazing community.
The solution there would be live streaming. Even though RUclips offers live streaming, I think Twitch is the best place to do that, and continue to use RUclips to store VODs.

This
I thought I was the only one who saw that. Most likely that is why he is not getting a picture.
Mechanically, the cabling is the same, so the colour of the plug should not affect the signal.
@@JonathanSias nope the audio cables are in different places on the barrel jack in the camera

Hey Alex, red and white are for sound yellow is video signal right?
It doesn't matter. The switcher light should be steady even with audio only. It's not the first time i connect the thermal cam
Nice fix, lucky to have a thermal-cam. Without it, it would take much longer to find the problem.

Have you tried changing the hdmi cable itself?
Cheap hdmi converter boxes from eBay is your answer.

Why did you not put a new cap in?
Is there any chance to have a training arrange by you or your company about hardware repairing...??

I bought ametech flux from ebay and the only thing that came off board was smoke and also a dead 898D. Now, I do know where to get it from.
You did put in a new capacitor tho right?
A thermal camera must be on my bench no matter the price. It's much more convenient than burning fingers and smelling alcohol smoke.

Any chance we could have a tutorial of Big Boss removing the printed circuit board of a device?

one question: all the caps that have one leg connected to ground are "bypass" capacitors or not all of them?
In power supply almost all of the on led ground caps are for filtering. But in analogue electronics we have different purposes like to create wave form etc.

I've seen that adapter and it's very possible he has the wrong one. If the heat camera uses AV then he needs AV2HDMI, not HDMI2AV.

Amazing job brother. Love how knowledge and gut feeling combined with TECH FLIR does magic :). Experience is everything. What FLIR MODEL DO YOU USE ?

Man we can see the hot spot just fine. Stop worrying about it.
I have a question: If removing the capacitor made the laptop work again, why was it there to begin with? Doesn't it need replacing?
The filtering capacitors are used to filter noise from the power which is induced by the environment and other electronic devices. So if the power has very negligible of noise it can be turned. HDMI splitters don't really work to well. It's a hit or miss. Even if you buy them from Amazon. There seems to be no QC on them.
Do you need to install a new capacitor?
