- Established in 1908, the McVitie's Factory in Harlesden is Europe's largest biscuit factory by volume. Everyday up to 13 million Chocolate Digestives and 12.5 million Digestives are produced on site. Over the past 100 years the factory has evolved - there is greater automation and less staff. At one point in the 1950s as much as 3,000 people worked on site. Today, the figure is around 500. Come with us on a behind-the-scenes tour of the factory and see how some of your favourite biscuits are made.
I love the chocolate digestive
Are these the same chocolate digestives used In Prince William's cake on his wedding day?
Milk chocolate or dark chocolate?
Hey, if you're going to upload British pornography to RUclips, have an age rating on it, mate
ND78S parent alert
ND78S if you can't take a joke then get off the internet
This is about trains least used stations and more train enthusiasm not an inappropriate video
oforid222 official Firstly, this comment was a joke.
Secondly, this channel may have videos on trains but it is not dedicated to trains. There are a lot of videos on it which are not about trains.
Tang Cheng I don't think so that shouldn't be on here
I live in the US and whenever one of my friends goes to London I have them bring me packs of digestives. The American ones are not the same.
What is the most popular biscuit in the US ?
PaulEssexUk probably some kind of cookie I presum? Like them Chips Ahoy ones. Those at least certainly can’t beat a Maryland Cookie anyway.
Their chocolate digestives and digestives are incredible -- a fan from Canada
Still made the UK? Unbelievable!
Ray Murray that's not that unbelievable, to be fair. The fact they're still made in London is the part that's really unbelievable!
But owned by Pladis who are a Turkish food giant.
Ray Murray But McVities is owned by some Turkish company. There are very few British products that are actually owned by British companies.
and keep them fresh by shipping shorter distances!
Massive markups and automation, the land was bought and paid for many years ago.
As a recovering McVities addict I am in withdrawal again after watching this!
Lived very nearby and enjoyed smelling the biscuits daily and enjoyed a tour. Love Mcvities products.
In Australia, there's a note on the packaging that states "Does not aid digestion"
bowlingkingpin What?
bowlingkingpin ha in Hong Kong they have the same statement
Not surprised ,
Australia........ known for wide open spaces , racism , and low intelligence
They sell in Australia?
It temporarily control fluctulance, and it hinder digestion instead.
Impressive production!
Yeah, my favourite british biscuit, expecially when sightseeing and travelling. gets you through the day ;-)
Chocolate Hobnobs are the best. "Dunk me!"
FelineYogi It means "I don't, no." or "No, I don't".

Totally disagree that this guy has a nice voice.
Geoff has a mega cool voice. Should be famous. Or perhaps _more_ famous?
Ahhhhh... It's great passing Harlesden station on the Overground/Bakerloo, because you can smell it from the train, and the smell matches the chocolate colour of the Bakerloo stock... =D
WHO ELSE IS WATCHING THIS WHILE EATING BISCUITS?
"...you might be dipping into your tea right now"
Well, I wasn't, but dammit, there goes the diet! Your fault!
i listened to that exact part when reading the comment
my late daddy worked here, brings back memories
Delicious!
This is my idea of heaven 🍪
Chocolate digestives were my favourite food when I was in the UK! (I think I may have had a pack for lunch or dinner more than once xD) Cornish Pasties were a really close second.
My local Safeway, here in California, recently started stocking Chocolate Digestives! 8-)
I like the plain ones with tea
oh no that hobnob looks delicious! 😋
Where's my digestives?! I want my digestives!!!
Who made and designed the machines?
1:10 "We have an insatiable appetite for biscuits". I think that woman behind the biscuits is eating a biscuit.
Factory food is quite insane when you think about it. When you have so many brands and variations and to feed so many people.
#WHERESGEOFF!?
he doesn't need to be on this channel all the time. want to watch him then bugga off to his channel
He's getting some tea to dunk the biscuits in.
I dont think he does very much other videos then trains
Chocolate digestives are the best!
Try the new Yorkshire biscuit tea that comes with the biscuits flavour in the tea.

Querry, Why are they called "Digestives"? Don't most cookies, as we in the US call them, digest?
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digestive_biscuit says when they were invented back in 1839 they were thought to be good for the digestive system because they had bicarbonate of soda in them.
Digestive biscuits were first developed to help aid digestion, hence the name. They are quite different in consistency compared to cookies which are usually soft, this is because biscuits are baked twice which is where the name biscuit comes from, it literally means 'baked twice' (in latin).
It's not a cookie. It's a digestive. Both are biscuits.
stan crouch so 😂
stan crouch It's a biscuit, not a cookie.
Are the best 😊😊😊

They didn't showed the rich tea section and the people who do packing there and sometimes work in hot oven also👍
Mmmm... deliciously interesting.
Aldi's chocolate oaties are the same as mcvitties choc hobnobs but 54p instead of £1.50. I wonder where they're made. Do mcvitties make biscuits for other brands?
Wouldn't be surprised
They aren't. If you try them side by side mcvities tastes a lot better. It's the same with nearly all Aldi and Lidl products
Simon Tay No, they are not the same, and McVities does not make biscuits for other brands.
R.I.P Londonists youtube channel then ..was nice whilst it lasted!

I wanna see Jaffa cakes
Jaffa Cakes not made in Harlesden, Made 202 miles further North In Stockport
DUNK!!!
The story of the digestive's creation is really confusing. It was first 'invented' in 1839 by Scottish scientists in Logie Steading in Forres. The mcvities creator, Alexander grant, was born in Forres 25 years later in 1864. He then went on to 'invent' the digestive with mcvities in 1892. He then bought Logie Steading in 1933 and was a benefactor to the town. Confusing
100K!!!!
Congrats! You're the first to comment!
Londonist Ltd yay!
best joke ever... from a visitor to the Graham Norton show. If a Hob is a male ferret, what are Hobnobs made from?
I Have it
CHEDDERS
If you drive past there the air smells like cakes
This isn't pornography...
Biscuitssssssssssssssssssssssssss
You like biscuits?
Weird I really enjoyed this video whilst eating chocolate digestives but as soon as they were gone I lost interest in the video 🤣
Me watching this I’m also got geography class
Not too keen on the way he talks with his mouth full. I never really like to view other people's masticated food!
Ginger nuts for me
How can Chocolate Digestives be the most delicious thing ever yet normal Digestives are just ew
@EVILBUNNY28 Well as someone who has Autism that affects how my taste buds react to most layered flavours of foods of most categories except from water-based. I find the chocolate is of an acquired taste open-ended
3,000 jobs reduced to a handfull in modern times, that's progress 🤔
big ginger mug
I'm a fan of the voice.
Poor Americans will never understand...
My god what an awful presenter!
Sam Ashton nothing wrong with him at all
What's wrong with him, seems perfectly fine to me
Cheers Geoff
who else is here for home economics class?
Low sugar
There are so many goans working there lots of politics.....
But why does he keep calling it MACVitie’s? Is there an a between the M and the C? NO. Same with people who call it MACDonald’s... it’s MCVITIE’S and MCDONALD’S! /rant
Eva Chatelier how would u pronounce mcvitites then since there are no vowel in between the m and c it’s impossible to not pronounce it with an a
Shame that they shutdown the Scottish factory which is the origin of McVitie's factories. McVitie's was bought by the Turkish who don't care about the companies legacy, the company will move to India in no time.
Uk made Digestives might be good, But they moved to Indonesia, it made the taste whird, and bad aftertaste. No longer like them.
I never buy biscuits like I used too, not had a cake in over 1 year and three months, as both are now pointless.
Why, have you lost your sense of taste?
Hope your wel
Cookies. Not Biscuits.
Pawat Songkhopanit YOU ARE SOOOO WRONG
This is is no way, shape or form a cookie
Original were thicker and definitely no palm oil. So original is NOT original
I'm sorry right, but if you don't dunk your biscuits; do you even have a right to be called "British?"
PLEASE Londonist, use a different presenter. He is awful. Also, 3:17 - who did the subtitles???
And Now.... Closed ! Out of biz ! How many jobs ? Gone. Maybe company should have remained in British ownership! Not, who, Turkish? That's like here in U.S. many companies started here and owned by American, now owned by Chinese co. Or other Non U.S. ownership! Then profit not Highest they shut down, move it out of country to slave labor type nation's
Next time close your mouth when you eat. Horrible habit and I can guarantee anyone near you is thinking the same.
Their digestive biscuits are a disappointment! Paper thin, too crumbly, 100 g less in the package.
I won't waste my money on them anymore. They were very good biscuits before. They have changed for the worse...
