The AMAZING History of Chicago School Architecture - Walking Tour

- In this video we tour the Chicago Loop and learn about some of the buildings from the Chicago School Architecture.
Chicago School Architecture does not refer to a unified "look" like other architectural styles (Gothic, Neoclassical, Modern, Victorian, etc.) but rather the shared set of principals and vision that the architects had for pushing the city of Chicago forward after the Great Fire of 1871.
It is also known as Commercial Style.
Some of the buildings featured in this film:
* Monadnock Building
* Fisher Building
* Old Colony Building
* Marquette Building
* Reliance Building
* Sullivan Center (Carson, Pirie, Scott, and Company Store Building)
* Chicago Building
* Leiter Building II
* Auditorium Building
* Gage Group Buildings
* Manhattan Building
To tour these buildings when you're in Chicago, I recommend starting at Dearborn & Ida B. Wells - The Manhattan Building is located there. It is the world's oldest purely skeletal frame skyscraper (The Rookery is older but has load bearing walls).
The architects of these chicago and national landmarks include:
* William Le Baron Jenney
* Dankmar Adler
* Louis Sullivan
* Daniel Burnham
* Martin Roche
* John Root
* William Holabird
QOTD - What's your favorite building in this Chicago Architecture Tour Video?

For an even deeper appreciation of these and other buildings, just go inside and look. There's some amazing interiors you don't know about or see. Outside looks like an old building but inside it's breathtaking...
This is badass. They go together like pb&j!
I was just in Chicago last week for some tattoo work and honestly it was by far the best city I have been to just to walk around and take everything in. I only had 1.5 days to walk around the city so I didn't get a chance to take it all in. But I'm DEFINITELY coming back. I'm obsessed now.
My favorite building is Carson, Pirie, Scott.
I love the Carson, Pirie, Scott & Company building that’s now a Target! So pretty & I like to visit (& shop) often 😬
It’s so beautiful, the Louis Sullivan ornamentation is super classic!!! Thank you so much for watching!!
That was a great video! I'll soon be holding a presentation on the school of chicago architectural style in school and this video helps me alot with my research. It really is giving me some better insight, especially with the great images of the buildings that still stand out in modern chicago. You defenitely deserve way more subs. I'll make sure to mention your video at the end of my presentation 👍
I really appreciate that, my goal was to communicate some of the great things about these historic buildings. Thank you so much for watching!! 😎😎

I love the Reliance and the Marquette. Wow so impressive. Amazing architecture!!! Great quotes! Loved watching ! LOVE THE SIRENS IN THE BACK GROUND - lol SO CHICAGO!!
The Marquette is truly impressive, it’s currently undergoing some maintenance otherwise I’d have included some more exterior shots. Thank you so much for watching ❤️
Big fan of the Manadnock Bldg
For some reason, architecture is so satisfying.

Hey Luis, I really enjoyed this video. Which building has that artwork on blue?
Hey Penny, thank you so much!! To which artwork are you referring, what time does it appear in the video?
@@LuisGustoComedy at 5:02, thanks
That is the Marquette Building, on Dearborn & Adams
I saw in one of your videos you suggested doing an architecture tour by boat, which sounds awesome. I see a number of different companies offer those -- is there one in particular that you'd suggest as one of the best? ...or the original?
I really love the tour done by the Chicago Architecture Center!!
@@LuisGustoComedy Thank you, just found their website, looks great. I'll sign up when I visit!
