Marc created Steven as his primary protector in order to shelter him from the burden of the trauma his mother imposed on him. Steven was the version of him that had a loving mother who didn't abuse him and never suffered through that torment. Khonshu took advantage of his torment and his fractured personality in order to force him into the role of his new avatar. But when Steven finally witnessed the truth of Marc's past, he reaffirms to Marc that the death of his brother wasn't his fault, that his mother was wrong to place the blame on him. He gave Marc the closure he never got from his mother. And by doing so, he fulfilled his responsibility as primary protector, which made him effectively useless to Marc.
Marc created Steven.. Steven was supposed to be what Marc always wanted to be.. smart and funny. Marc also accidentally created Jake.. Jake was supposed to be what Marc was scared he might be.. a killer and a maniac.
The innocence in Steven , the struggle of Marc to prevent Steven from knowing the truth . Damnnn Oscar has undoubtedly given us the best performance in MCU

This song is perfect for this episode. I didn't even get emotional when Tony died in Endgame but this ep manage to almost make me break down and when Marc says "You want to know the truth? That you had a mother that beat you? That hated you? That made your life a living hell?! But you've gotten to live thinking that she loved you. That she was kind. That she's still alive." That felt like a punch in my heart.
Edit to my first comment: Listen on call with a friend watching ep 5 and once again found myself almost tearing up and relating to Marc once again. The parts that hit me the most was when Marc broke down after not going to his mother's funeral,saying it was his fault bringing his brother in the cave and Steven saying "you were just a child, it wasn't your fault" and Dr.Harrow saying to Marc "Do you think you created Steven to hide from all the awful things you feel you've done in your life? Or do you think Steven created Marc to punish the world for what your mother did to you?" Once again felt like a punch in my heart.
Marc having to deal with his brother's death and being blamed for it, he witnesses everything that happened in the accident then his mom is beating him, resented him, she just died leaving her only son alive never apologize for everything she had done to him, how will Marc attend her shiva?...she lost both of her son for what she did, sometimes the favoritism kills the mentality💔 Marc losing Steven is just losing another brother to him💔 Heartbreaking 😭
You forgot the scene where Steven said to Marc if he will not open up he will lose everything and it will be all his fault so he have no choice but to tell the truth to Steven opening up the scars of the past. I am glad he met Layla but their meeting is also a lie cause he did not tell what happened to her father and like Layla said thats the reason they met. This character is just so mental and 1 episode will not clarify everything feel sorry for Marc and Steven. Still waiting for Jake apperance in the finale, he will take the wheel surely cause our two MC are so broken right now. Still kudos to your edit video of the ep 👌.
I was beyond happy that someone finally told Marc that everything that had happened to him wasn't his fault because he was only a child. I'm so, so glad they included that simple yet powerful bit of dialog
This was such a heart wrecking TV series, sure it's a super hero but first time I saw DID portrayed this well in my opinion. Marc needed to someone to be there for him, his father was entirely useless and his mother was abusive, Steven telling him it wasn't his fault had me crying. It's so sad he went through all of that, and on top of it has a deity taking advantage of his condition. Spoiler: With Marc being the victim, Steven being innocent of the abuse, and Jake being complete opposite who thrive on the abuse using it as an outlet for his murder and Khonsu using it for his benefit. I hope cinema theory talks about it

Just realised it was foreshadowed right from the start, when the little girl said Steven would get rejected from the field of reeds. That episode was probably one of the best marvel has put out!
What deeply touched me was the fact that Marc's mother died without having felt the desire to reconcile with her son, or even thinking that what happened was an accident, without mentioning the fact that he was just a child. As an empath, I can imagine the heavy burden that Marc had to carry and the raw rage against his mother mixed with self-loathing over the years. His mother's grief turned into a kind of poison that intoxicated their relationship, not to say Marc's whole life. This episode had me crying hot tears.
Now hear me out all these new marvel series were great but Wandavision and moon knight the only I could relate to,the emotion,the story and the acting it was different then normal marvel movies and series the child abuse the relationship the humor of Spector, the lies of Marc and the aggression of jake this was truly a rollercoaster ride you did a great job with this marvel, Oscar Isaac is an great actor wandavision does the same,the grief,the loss it’s something that is a way of life thank you

I was so hyped for this show as someone who has DID, we dont get alot of DECENT representation outside of the stupid Jekyll and Hyde trope. Honestly the level of realism this show has is amazing

I dont know why but I F***ING cried and cried so hard and long whilst watching ep 5. It was just so sad, it touched deep and then I thought to myself while I watched him cry on the floor of that street in his memory - that I'm glad I have someone to cry along with me! God damn It was so damn painful to watch to the point MY HEART HURT!!!!
Marc was the one who took the hate, the pain, the hurt. Steven was the one who never experienced the abuse, he was what Marc wanted to be. Happy and normal. But Jake was the hidden one in which Marc wished he grabbed the belt and retaliated, when he wished he could use those hurtful words on his mother.
That's the point, Moonknight has DID both in the series and the comics. Steven, Marc and Jake are alters who were created because of Marc's childhood trauma as for real victims. The depiction was better than usual, Marc and Steven are complex characters and it's not the evil double trope used in Split or Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. I wish we could have more of Jake because having him as the bloodthirsty monster is still cliché.
This episode had me in tears the whole time. I can't believe how broken Marc is. Marc needed Steven so much, someone to escape, someone to help, someone happy. Marc says "you were the only superpower I ever had". And he couldn't have said it better. Marc can't live without Steven. The creators of this show. The writers, they seriously all deserve awards, I can't think about this show without getting more emotional than I've ever been in an mcu project. Brilliant job to Oscar Isaac, who will without a doubt go down as the best actor in the mcu
I feel like Steven was like a mix of Marc's favorite character (Dr. Steven Grant) from "Tomb Buster" and RoRo/Randall (maybe what he thought he would be like when he grew up?). Steven has Dr. Grant's name, accent, adventurous nature and love for history. But Steven is also anxious and unsure (bonus points because he has the one-finned fish as a pet and named him Gus) like Randall was when Marc said they could play in the tunnels. Steven is like a little brother to Marc. He's sworn to protect him becauss he couldn't save his brother.Steven is a mix of a fictive alter and an alter based off of someone real, too. That's what I love about this show. Aside from all the exciting action, superhero stuff and mythology... there's AMAZING representation of DID and psychosis. 11/10 show.

The depiction was better than usual, Marc and Steven are complex characters and it's not the evil double trope used in Split or Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. I wish we could have more of Jake because having him as the bloodthirsty monster is still cliché.
This episode had me in tears the whole time. I can't believe how broken Marc is. Marc needed Steven so much, someone to escape, someone to help, someone happy. Marc says "you were the only superpower I ever had". And he couldn't have said it better. Marc can't live without Steven. The creators of this show. The writers, they seriously all deserve awards, I can't think about this show without getting more emotional than I've ever been in an mcu project. Brilliant job to Oscar Isaac, who will without a doubt go down as the best actor in the mcu

I feel like Steven was like a mix of Marc's favorite character (Dr. Steven Grant) from "Tomb Buster" and RoRo/Randall (maybe what he thought he would be like when he grew up?). Steven has Dr. Grant's name, accent, adventurous nature and love for history. But Steven is also anxious and unsure (bonus points because he has the one-finned fish as a pet and named him Gus) like Randall was when Marc said they could play in the tunnels. Steven is like a little brother to Marc. He's sworn to protect him becauss he couldn't save his brother.Steven is a mix of a fictive alter and an alter based off of someone real, too. That's what I love about this show. Aside from all the exciting action, superhero stuff and mythology... there's AMAZING representation of DID and psychosis. 11/10 show.
