I first cast my chart as a pre-teen, in the 90s, using what must have been one of the first astrology softwares, for Microsoft. The interpretations of my placements were so negative, cut and dry, even shocking! etc...it actually turned me off from any serious study of astrology for a long time. Only when I was well into my twenties did I feel daring enough to have another look, no doubt after coming across better written material. The fire and brimstone language used by some astrologers really pisses me off. "Ethics applied in chart interpretation and Counselling" should be required of all chart readers.
This actually started in the old books on Astrology when the Malefic and Benefics were the only approach to understanding the sign traits. Then the era of instant psychology came into being I think in the 60's and 70's and voila !! You had the mix for the judgement and blame games to begin. Being judged for your cover and not your content or any results in reality.
The worst I heard it was when I was going to be going through a messy divorce back in the early 90s and I called a 800 pychic hotline, and he asked my sign pisces and he read off a long grocery list of very negative attributes
The more I learn about astrology, the more I understand that the planets are the main actors, not the signs. Unfortunately, astrology as we know today is mainly based on sun sign, and that's it.

It's interesting that Fire and Air are considered Male energy and Earth and water are considered Female energy.
