I produce electronic music, I work with synths...and samples...and I've learned more from this channel than channels that focus on electronic music. Joe, thank you for these videos! My mixing game has improved so much!
Thoroughly enjoyed this tutorial. The one thing I find important when using any effect I pre/post fader. I use pre fader most the time. It keeps the relationship between dry track and effect in tact. That’s what works for me personally. Great job Joe your a great artist, engineer, and teacher.
The way you combine your own brand of humor while giving valuable information in a way that is VERY easy understand is really appreciated by so many. Thank you for being you......
I'm an above average user, in my opinion, but I never thought about changing a mono track to stereo to have stereo effects on it. Great tip! Not that I use a lot of stereo effects, but still good to know!
I feel like I started late …didn’t go to audio pro school…not sure if anyone would actually let me intern…but it doesn’t even matter if u can sit and watch all of these
I just had a chance to watch this. This was a great video overview of adding reverb, and it alleviated a lot of frustration I was having while recording and trying to get the right revert. Thank you so much!!
Awesome video your videos save me a ton of time searching my studio books. And I understand your explanations alot better than text books. I've been using studio one since 2014. And your videos are the best.
Joe my dude! How wonderful of a tut Sir. I never new I could do this. I always did it the first way but the 2nd is my choice and I am proud to say... I freaking loving your tuts my brother... for I just learned by you Joe how to work smarter. Amen 🙏 brother thank you.
Great teaching style, thanks Joe. You should be on the stage or in the movies 😊 You remind me of Ed Norton in style - one of my favorite actors. Lots of (good) chutzpah, very entertaining and informative.
Thanks again for another helpful video Joe! I didn't know you could switch the track to stereo and get stereo benefits after recording in mono. Also, I thought GREEN is the color for vocals and YELLOW is for horns.
Thank you for this great tutorial! Do you have any videos on how to arm a mic with the studio one fx so as you sing it has a little sauce in your head phones but it records dry?
I have a doubt on the second method. why or what for should i use fader? the main fader on the fx channel, since we are only using the little fader on the "send"
Yeah, it’s a little confusing. If you think of it like an impulse response, if you use a positive number, there is a pause before the reverb starts to happen. If you use a negative number you are starting the reverb later in the impulse response rather than at the beginning.
Great video as always Sir. When will voice commands replace the keyboard shortcuts? Just say Reverb in track1, any task you ask for will display. A.I. I am sure could make it possible. Just an idea I have
The problem i have is that if i add a reverb as a send effect on a bus, because the output of the send is going to the main output, if you change the volume of the bus channel, it doesn't have an effect on the level of the reverb send... is there anything people are doing to get around this or do you just put the reverb as an insert on each bus?
Is there a way to tie the amount of the reverb to the volume of the original signal? Like if the vocalist is singing quietly, there’s only a little bit of reverb, but if singing loudly, there’s more? And I mean a way that’s actually automatic, without having to write an automation track.
That’s kind of automatic just by nature of how the audio works. When the singer sings quietly, there is naturally less volume. So there would be less signal going to the Reverb
Other than the answer already given, if you want the louder parts to have more more reverb you could probably use an expander on the reverb and sidechain the vocal into that.
Got a challenge for ya..where are Midi note numbers hiding ? I am sampling something and it's far easier filename wise to have 0 to 127 rather then abcd... If that makes sense
You could also play the sound from your monitors and record it somewhere in (or even outside) the room. Is it practical? No. If you really wanted your room tone as reverb would it be way easier to just make an IR? Yes. But you could do it. Boom. 4 methods
Minutes in you keep babbling. We know what reverb is. Whos searching for how to add it if they dont know what it is? You're talking about routing? as if we all have the same daw as well? This is amazing. im 4 mins in and you're still babbling. You've done nothing. Why assume no one knows how to use a daw? 4:24 you'll talk more? Im in awe ! HE WILL talk more. Im glad to have channel blocker extension.
Says the narcissistic commenter. Go somewhere where you can be as important as you think you are, which would be somewhere else. Dope slap slap slap. Er, my slapback got stuck.

Thanks Joe. There is always something to learn from your videos. Simply great!!!
AWESOME tutorial!!
Thanks Joe.
I'm thinking the use of Event Effects could be an easy way to create delay throws on a vocal. Great vid as always. Thank ya sir!
Yes, but if you want to do it more than once in a song, it might be easier to automate a send.
Thank you Joe , i'm learning with you a lot and you're funny af.

Vocals should be in purple, obviously!
@@chaddonal4331 I never knew that but thats what my 3 vocals are colored today !
great sounding boots and cats!
Very helpful -- but please also show the non-shortcut method of selecting things.

🤯 event fx … this is the feature I have wanted since SONY VEGAS 😲

Always remember the immortal words of Joe Gilder: "With great power... Reverb."
@5:17 What is that negative 150 on the pre knob? Can you please explain the negative numbers
Yeah, it’s a little confusing. If you think of it like an impulse response, if you use a positive number, there is a pause before the reverb starts to happen. If you use a negative number you are starting the reverb later in the impulse response rather than at the beginning.

Is there a way in studio one via the stock plug ins to remove reverb from audio?
No not really
0:02 Congratulations Joe! You finally learned how to show "three" on your hand without looking like a three-year old! 😅🤣😂
Great Video Joe
🙏🙏🙏 Thank you!!

What about if we want to insert more than one types of reverb in a song?Do we insert them separately for each track?Thank you!
You can use any reverb you choose, in all 3 of them ways.

You could try assigning your effects Post-Fader, so the fader movements are taken into account.
Yes, experiment with pre/post sends.
Haha, Haha, you are awesome Joe!! LOL

You can use any "out of the box" hardware units to :-)
Actually there is another way...you can put the reverb on the input and commit to that.
And compression on the input like the old days, I did it the other day with great results !
